Responding to my friend, kol's challenge to find Haiku in rap:

Wasn’t hard, my friend
Now I’ll go you one better.
Fourth grade writing fame.

A quick perusal of my vast and eclectic music collection revealed that a majority of rap music never got past that fourth grade Haiku writing class segment. It’s really quite a revelation to see the Haiku form as the kernel of rap music’s success. Who knew?!? Make sure you read all the way to the end, kol! Please pardon the edits to get past bad word censor software.

Friend, you betrayed me.
So I had 5ex with your wife.
How's that taste, fatso?

Beastie Boys--"Fight For Your Right"
The right to party,
One must not relinquish it.
Same goes for p0rn0.

Das Racist--"Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell"
When locating friends,
Combination restaurants
Can be confusing.

Eminem--"Slim Shady"
You may not know me,
But my name is Slim Shady.
My words are rap3y.

Jay-Z--"99 Problems"
So many stresses.
My problems are multitude,
But they are not her.

Kanye West--"Runaway"
I talk a big game,
Break up more than Seinfeld did.
This makes me depressed.

No Gucci, Fendi,
Louis or Prada for me.
I'm no basic 6itch.

Life, it can be cruel.
Death, the only sweet release.
So why not indulge?

I used to be poor.
If you don't know, now you know,
I got a chauffeur.

Snoop Dogg--"What's My Name?"
This is my breakout.
Bow wow wow is what I say,
But I am no mutt.

Next time I go out
To consume skirts for the eve,
Nate Dogg will join me.

When I was a hood,
The dollar bill ruled it all.
Some things never change.

I'm new around here, so, I don't know if I should do small introduction or just transcribe a poem right away.
All I can say is that I come from a country with one of the best poets (Luís de Camões and Fernando Pessoa, I don't know if anyone knows them) in the world and very rich poetry culture and history.

Anyway, this is my first poem in English and related to Runescape, so I'm looking forward to all critics.

"Shall I die!
Or.
Shall I fight!
I'll always live in the night.

But...
Should I simply
Live my
Life as one?

I'll never discover.

The subject
Is dark...

I will lurk
The Shadows
For my Lord!

I'll never surrender!

I've followed her
To honor Him.

But was it
Worth it?

I had to study all of Pessoa's poetry last year, so I know quite a lot about it :)

Thanks. I'll probably do some more, but sometimes is hard for me to find inspiration.. And to write a decent poem in English, as translating poems makes the magic disappear.

If you've noticed, have use very few rhymes, so is not really a "normal" poem. :p

According to that most accurate of sources...
the Internet... the words to the favorite carol

"O Come, O Come Emmanuel"

were originally written in Latin in the 12th Century. The author and composer are unknown. It is, however believed that the melody was of French origin and added to the text a hundred years later. The Latin was translated into English by John Mason Neale in 1851. It seems a rather long gestation period for any song, but I suppose they wanted to get it just right! And now, in 2012, I add 2 penguin verses of my own. Enjoy.

O come, O come... let’s find the penguin spies
The holidays have them in new disguise
I need the points that penguins will bring
Remind me, too, to wear my ghostly ring

Find every penguin spy
Be thankful that these birds will never fly.

The New Year comes as new years do,
With hoopla, noise, and much ado.
To follow in this New Year’s groove
I oft resolve that I’ll improve.
Now, in the past, I’ve fought and fought
But resolutions came to naught.
So this year, I’ll try something new
And pray YOU’LL be a better you!

Whatever your temporal frame of reference (time zone), have a Happy New Year. Shake off the negative and learn to rejoice in the blessings that surround you!
