“What do you mean the city’s closed to everyone?!” Arial shouted at the guard standing at the bridge. “Do you have any idea how badly my group needs to get in!?”
The Ordinator, a somewhat gangly looking youth without his helmet on, gave the ex-general a questioning stare. “Yeah, I’ve heard that same damn excuse from just about everyone who’s come this way lately,” he said. “What makes you any different?”
“I’m the gods damned general of the army!” Arial cried. “And I have serious business with the Emperor himself, so I need to get in!”
“Ha! The general’s still in Skyvern Keep, you dumb ass,” the guard said. “So turn back. There’s no way you’re getting in.”
“C’mon,” Joran said as he put a hand on Arial’s shoulder. “Looks like we’ll have to go find another way in."
"Can’t we just have Koreth teleport us in?” V asked as the group began making their way off of the bridge.
“The shadowstuff is interfering with my magic,” Koreth explained. “I can probably get in, but even then I’ll be able to take one, maybe two people at most. One of which is myself.”
“That shouldn’t happen,” Arial said. “I mean, mages have been teleporting in and out and around Ukrosha for centuries, and the shadowstuff has been around forever. Why would it start interfering with magic now?"
Koreth shrugged. “Your guess is as good as mine,” he said. “For all we know it might not even be the shadowstuff, but rather something else in the city.”
“Hey, what’s that noise?” Rajh asked. The rest of the group stopped in the middle of the bridge, which turned out to be much more massive when one was actually standing on it instead of looking at it from a distance, and looked around. Arial personally heard nothing at first, but then several noises became clearer as he concentrated.
