Lorkaj looked up at the Ordinators, and a snarl escaped his throat. “Fools,” he said. “Am I the only one who’s concerned about being in a damn ruined building after a small earthquake?! What about aftershocks?!”
One of the Ordinators looked up at Erevin. “You know, sir, he has a point,” the guard said.
"I don’t care,” Erevin spat. “Finish him off and we can leave this place if you’re worried about any aftershocks!”
“You know,” Lorkaj said, his voice lowering a few octaves. “I’m beginning to think your boss doesn’t care about your well being.”
The Ordinators paused. “What are you suggesting?” one of them asked.
“Work for me and I guarantee you safety…and pay,” Lorkaj answered with a gleam in his eye.
“Sounds good to me,” one whispered to himself. The guard turned to Erevin, and pointed his weapon at the pseudo-vampire. “Cease and desist, traitor!” he cried as he threw himself into the air.
The other Ordinators soon followed, and began jumping futilely into the air, swiping their blades at the Spymaster as he inched himself ever higher into the air, screaming at his subordinates.
“Stop, fools!” he cried. “Don’t you idiots realize what’s going on?!”
They don’t, Lorkaj thought to himself. In truth, he was surprised that vampiric hypnotism had actually worked on the Ordinators, considering how they were supposed to be trained to resist that kind of thing in the first place for obvious security reasons. Pushing such thoughts to the back of his mind, Lorkaj rummaged through his pockets, and drew out a wand made from a unicorn’s horn which was tipped with a pearl.
