Two days had passed since Viez’s death. In that time, Delrith had wasted every potential resource in an effort to track down his missing daughter. Every effort came up with nothing, and each time he heard the news was just as hard to hear as the first time he heard it.
It had been two more days before he felt the grief set in, and he somehow ended up standing over Viez’s corpse in the ritual room. The room itself had many windows looking out into the surrounding Abyss, and a few candles that dotted the walls alongside the prerequisite magical symbols, but other than that the room was bare now that Delrith’s only son was in floating in the middle of it thanks to a magical sigil he had drawn up.
The demon paced back and forth for hours, trying to determine the best way to word his request. He knew the wrong one would bring more grief to him, and he didn't know if he could bear any more.
“Viez,” he said at last. “I know that we may not see eye to eye with each other, but I wonder…if you could talk, would you...tell me...where your sister is?”
When Viez didn't answer, Delrith felt his eyes sting with the beginning of unholy tears. “Please,” he said weakly. “I-I just want to bury my only daughter.”
“I may be of assistance,” he heard a voice say. Looking around, Delrith saw nobody in the room. But the voice continued. “I have many powers,” it said. “My prison is just that: a prison. Not a restrainer of magical power."
Delrith looked down at the Talisman, and saw that it was glowing. “So the tome wasn’t lying after all,” he muttered to himself.
“It doesn’t,” the voice said. “But either which way, we may have a mutual need for each other.”

“What do you have in mind?” Delrith asked.
“I need an army to march against my enemy,” the Talisman replied. “And you want revenge against the humans who have dared to attack your brood. How about we...work together... to achieve our ends? We can bring a terrible reckoning to the mortal world, you and I.”
Delrith felt his grief disappear in that instant, which was instead replaced by rage. “Yes,” he said. “Yes, that makes perfect sense.” He walked past Viez’s body and over to a window. Thoughts filled his head, and he began talking to himself. He didn't know why, but it seemed...right, in a way.
“First came my defeat by the adventurer,” he said. “The others laughed at me for being weak, for letting a mortal defeat me. Then came my enslavement to the Demon Lord who used to own this fortress. But I broke free of his will, and killed him in retribution. Then came more summoning by foolish mortals, whom I have killed for daring to strike an unholy deal with me. I have lived through more affairs than I can recall, but this…this is a new low, even for demonic standards.”
“I agree,” he heard the Talisman say.
“Misthalin,” Delrith said. “I’ve long dreamed of the day I would lay waste to the jewel of that nation...Varrock. But it has been too long since I've sought the means to do so. But now I do have such means, and the motivation to follow through with it.”
“Yes,” the Talisman cooed triumphantly.
“Enough. I’ve had it with the mortals and their ways,” Delrith said as he continued to stare out the window. “I’ve decided my course, and may the foolish mortals cower in their little beds this night. Because for what they have done, they all must pay the ultimate price!”

Epilogue
<><>
“The Onslaught began with a flash in our sky…but that wasn’t the only drum of war which had sounded beforehand. How could we have missed the other signs?”
~Skarjil Datashade Glyph [History]: March on to Onslaught.
<><>
The mage walked through the dark, cavernous halls of the sanctuary with haste. His dark robes swirled in the air as he turned various corners, and he passed many members of the Brotherhood on his way to an important destination.
The mage drew out a ruby ring from the depths of his arcane pockets, and whispered a short incantation under his breath. He watched as the red gem grew black in color, and the golden band paled into silver. He added one more spark of magic into the item, and just in time. He had come to the Gentleman’s doorstep.
The mage hesitated a short breath before pushing his way through a magical barrier, and into an even darker room. On the wall stood glass panes of various sizes, and they each showed a different scene. One showed the interloper he had thought dead since that one night mere days ago. The figure was standing on a rooftop, overlooking some location in Varrock that he couldn’t pinpoint.
Another showed a demon he recognized as Delrith. The demon seemed enraged as he looked out into the Abyss from a window of some fortress, and he was wearing some kind of new jewel that he had never seen before. The others showed different people, ranging from a massive ogre in armor to the swamps of Morytania.
The least interesting among them was a scene with an attractive woman from the desert who wore the robes of some arcane order in it. She was pouring over some books, but other than that appeared to be of little interest to him.

In the middle of the room stood the silhouette of a chair, and it was from there a raspy voice sounded. “So I take it you have the key?”
The mage nodded, and stepped closer to the chair. Its occupant turned the piece of furniture around magically, and the mage saw the Gentleman sitting in it calmly. Really, he couldn’t be surprised, but the fact that the old man seemed to have shadows crawling over his skin constantly still unnerved him to this day.
“Yes,” the mage said as he threw the ring towards the Gentleman. “The half-breed did have our target for once. Unlike the other victims.”
The Gentleman turned the ring over in his hands before saying, “Good, good. You are dismissed, Lord Surok.”
Surok Magis bowed to the Gentleman, and hurried out of the room. Many thoughts filled his head as he made his way out of the sanctuary, but one thought was kept in the forefront of his mind. He had the key tucked away safely, he thought. Now he managed to trick the Gentleman into accepting a fake. So that was a success in its own right.
Now all he had to do was pray he could find a way to end this madness once and for all. He had no clue what the hell a Divine Elder Mind was, but he knew that nothing good could come of such matters.

The Gentleman watched Surok leave the sanctuary through his scrying mirrors. Fool, he thought as he crushed the fake key in his hand. You’re only playing right into His plans…and mine.
Thinking back, he wasn't surprised that his Lord had foreseen everything perfectly. The incident at Ukrosha and the God Wars had scattered most of their enemies, as well as the keys. Which of course had infuriated him at the time since he was so close to combining all three of the unholy prisons, and this completing his goal.
But that didn't matter now, he thought. As his Lord had forseen after his initial failures, new bearers of the keys had come out into the open, and they had been united with their respective charges.
He looked into the mirrors, and sighed. “One little spider,” he said as he looked at the mirror showing the Spider in Varrock. “A demon. And a mage,” he continued as he looked at the respective mirrors.
Turning to a blank one that had gone fuzzy, he added, “And you, little vampire. I wonder...what’s your role to play in this, hmm?” The mirror didn't answer, nor did he expect it to.
“Ah, well,” he muttered to himself. The Gentleman cracked his knuckles, which sent a resounding pop through the air. “Let the games begin.”

Well damn. There were enough twists to break your neck once or twice, which was lovely for keeping me going "Wot".
The character deaths towards the end made the story feel more epic a bit, since you had managed to make me like most of them by that point; I especially felt bad for *spoiler*.
And well.. uh. I seem to be at a loss for words, I blame it on staying up late and now being in some sort've haze.
So until I can think of something else to say, I'll just say this was good, anticipating piece two, and... Cthulhu Fhtagn? Yeah. That's it.

Just finished reading. Like Orge up, I was also surprised by qutie a few things that I simply could not deduce.
the end with Delrith was a true surprise.
I think my favourite scene was the duel bewteen Raj and Drog though. Both were ashamed members of their culture, and certainly embittered regardless of their end, both really having nothing to lose other than their lives.
in fact, when many die, they really had nothing to lose other than their lives.
in the end the story belongs to the elite category and is much better than many published novels out there, so thank-you for typing it.
really, now that I think about the story from beginning to end, what an exploration is all I can think of, an exploration that gives you much more than what you will read: a lasting memory.
If anything else, I just wanted to mention that I could not resist but, while reading, imagined my own characters in the story, so I sort of developed a second story at the same time, and imagined of the things to come.
I can guarantee that more than three quarters of my characters would have been killed before reaching Talon (with the exception of maybe Spiritus because he can't really die).
Well, that's all for the time being, have a good break. until next time.

Ogre, glad to hear you liked it. Tbh I kinda hated the idea of killing off most of the characters near the end, but it was also sorta necessary too. Which sucks, because I imagine a lot of the guys would've made good recurring characters for later stories set after the events of this one >.<
Azi, glad to hear you liked it too. I'm actually surprised that you've managed to get that from Rajh's duel with Droj...because so far most of that scene seemed to just sail right over the heads of a few other people in favor of what they thought of as a badass death O_o
And I'm not sure how long your characters would survive tbh. On one hand, the Doomhounds came off as really weak thanks to the characters in this one seemingly slaughtering them left and right. On the other hand, a lot of these characters were already experienced veterans of battle, and those who weren't on the same experience level as the others had access to some powerful spells and equipment in the first place.
So idk, maybe an unprepared or untrained character might not have survived as long as these guys did. Or maybe they would. It's sorta hard to say at this point since I haven't even seen most of your character ideas yet :P <><>
Now that all of that's out of the way, gonna cut this off since I have other work to do. Might make another post that sounds more formal once I get enough of part 2 written up, so be sure to check back here in the coming weeks for a self promotional advertisement :P
