"Now get out!" he finished, emphasizing the last word with a push that sent the man sprawling down the steps.
Detective Gale knocked through several dozen birds before at last landing in one of the massive puddles that had formed with the rain. As he sat there, too shocked to get up, he noticed a few birds still on the steps, intently peering into Usha Manor. Out of sheer frustration, he splashed water on them, but the crows didn't move.
