As always the eyes coming from those robes seemed to borrow into him and see his very soul. With difficulty Mathew broke his eyes away from the gaze and walked towards the table. Only one of the long tables had any people on it and wasn't even a quarter full. The gaggle of young men and women went silent as he and the dragon passed them.
When he reached the long table moved her smiling face from Nate and motioned him to a chair across from her. When he sat food was brought to him and he placed a piece of meat down in front of the dragon. Once the dragon began attacking the meat he looked up and asked,"Why is this place so huge, but there is so little people here?"
Her response was slow and no one spoke. Eventually she said,"Long ago this city was known as The City of the Bentarin. Bentarin is the old word that means protectors, we are Bentarins or protectors. Long ago we were created to protect the people of this world from the monsters of the boundary. Things like snatchers, deathmonglors and reepers"
Mathew interrupted asking,"What is a snatcher?"
He got a look that said, shut up or the story will stop, and Mathew closed his mouth waiting for her to continue.
After I short time longer with the look she said,"If you wish to learn about them, you may take some classes. Anyways, the monsters of the boundary were constantly terrorizing the people of our land so the wizards of the time decided to create the inner city to train people to fight the monsters. Eventually their plan succeeded and the boundary began to be pushed back. The cities that began to form payed tribute to us in food and supplies to help us continue to protect them."
After a short pause she continued,"Over time more and more people came to learn and brought there families. The outer city was created and began to flourish. About six-hundred years ago the boundary went silent."
