\/|\/ Chapter 9: Pa*uet and the Nortirpleans \/|\/
Pa*uet stood in the entrance to the Varrock Sewers, where only brave adventurers and cat trainers dared to tread. Today, however, was particularly dry; there was not a soul to be found, so Paquet and his white outfit weren't bothered by anyone.
"So, if I want to destroy the Black Arms, I am going to need to find a lead, or a member that has no idea what he's doing. But first..." Pa*uet thought, and then he pulled out the Brisia Note, opened it up, and spoke into it,
"Hello? Is there anyone there? Anyone at all?"
--
Beraw stood in the room, his head quickly moving left to right and right to left, trying to avoid staring at Veronica for too long so she wouldn't suspect him of anything.
"So, you don't have anything that you want from me, Bear of the Black Lands? Surely I have at least something you could possibly need..." Veronica watched Beraw move his head around in that obvious, stupid, quirky fashion, until he noticed her watching him, and he managed to still his head.
"Oh, you don't know the half of it, you..." Beraw thought, but he said to her,
"No. We're fine. I don't need anything, but I better leave. Now." Beraw walked out of the room, his head shaking a tad as he left.
"Whatever." Veronica heard a slight muffling in her pocket where she had stashed the Grether Pen.
"What? Someone's using the Brisia Note! Superb!" Veronica pulled out the Grether Pen, and the muffled voice became very clear, and it rang in her mind clearly now, although no actual sound came from the burning pen.
"Hellllo? Come on, there has to be some intelligent life out there!" An old man's voice croaked through her mind.
Veronica pulled out the pen and wrote glowing letters on the air, so that it could be read on the Brisia Note.
"I'm here! Whoever you are, old man... I'm here."
"What? Ok. Who are you, then? Could I trust you?" Pa*uet spoke through the note to the unknown person on the other side.

"That depends, old man. Are you affiliated with anyone... Important?"
Pa*uet was silent for a moment, and he thought about whether or not he should tell this person he worked for the King. But just to be safe, he delivered a smooth lie to the parchment, saying,
"No, I'm just a harmless old man who found the Brisia Note on a tree. I don't have any reason to harm anyone, at least I don't think so..."
"Fine. You're on watch now. I'm pretty much bored and free for the next couple of hours, so we'll talk. What's your name?" Veronica watched the curtain that marked the entrance to make sure no one was watching her use the Grether Pen, and then awaited Pa*uet's response.
"My name's Pa*uet. Could I ask of your name as well?" His voice was slightly annoying to Veronica, but it didn't matter. He was just an old man with nothing to do and probably owned a cat or something... If he ticked her off, she could just seek him out and kill him. Simple as that.
"I'm Veronica. Yeah. So... Paquet, right?"
"Yes. That's my name. ...Could I ask something of you, Veronica?"
"I'm listening. What do you want? I like making deals with people as long as I don't have to die or do something completely foolish." She brushed her hair softly, and then the voices that came from the Rune shop suddenly began to arise slowly, but not enough to cause a large, bloody scene.
"Good, good. Do you know of the Black Arm Gang, a group of thieves that resides here in Varrock? Their rivals are the Phoenix Gang." Pa*uet noticed a large rat coming close to him, growling and snarling as drool from its mouth began to create a small puddle, and he quickly shot a Wind Blast at it, knocking it into the wall and killing it.
"Know of them! Ha! I just made a deal with one of their leaders! Of the Phoenix Gang though, I know little of, so don't go asking me about them. Besides, I shouldn't be talking to some random stranger about the insides of the gang."

"I understand. Quite smart to deal with me like that. However... I must ask you one question. Just answer me this." Pa*uet looked back and forth and then up the ladder to see that no one was watching him communicate through the Brisia Note.
"Kay, sure. Shoot, Pa*uet." The voices outside the Rune shop died down now, as if someone had just bought all the Runes in stock so far and Aubury, the owner, had told them he'd close up so that he could get in a new shipment soon.
"Do you dislike that leader of the Gang, in any way, shape, or form?"
Veronica glared at the air, as if Pa*uet was speaking right in front of her, in person. Levantris was indeed a strange character, with secrets that not even the gods could possibly find out in a whim, but was there any reason to hate him for who he was?
"Hmm. Considering who we all are, I don't think I hate him for anything. The Nortirpleans are like brothers and sisters, albeit not the type you would expect. Aye!" Veronica cursed under her breath at the mention of the name, which she wasn't supposed to say (or in this case, write) to strangers. Now she'd have to kill that guy, but it didn't matter to her, after all, it was only routine procedure!
"What's wrong? What are the Nortirpleans? You can answer either one in whatever order you prefer, but I'd like to know about both..."
"Hmm*h. I'm fine. Just a spider landed on my back and I had to shake it off. Ok. I'll tell you about the Nortirpleans, but it'd take you all of my free time to explain it to you accurately and completely, so I'll just outline what I feel I should tell you." Veronica sighed, rubbed her forehead, and then began to write on the air again, moving back to find new space to use.
"The Nortirpleans are basically a tight-knit group of people who have... A certain thing in common. That's top secret though, so I can't tell you. But that leader of the Black Arms is a Nortirplean, tried and true. He's been one longer than I have. Next..."

"...The Nortirpleans are even more secret than the Black Arms or the Phoenix Gang or even that gang called the Temple Knights. Are we dangerous? Well, if I told you that, you'd be off on a chase for us and end up being ridiculed when the Varrockian Police can't find us. Are we good? Maybe, maybe not. We don't really care. Anything else you want to know, Pa*uet?"
The top lines of text disappeared to make way for the new text that was appearing on the Brisia Note, so Paquet had to read relatively fast to follow the conversation.
"Hmm. Interesting. I guess I can't ask why you are all are so secret... But would you have a grudge against anyone, say... King Roald? King Lathas? Duke Horacio? If so, I can possibly help you in bringing them down, or at least damaging their regimes..." The sewer lid at the top rattled a little, and Pa*uet stared up to see if anyone was coming, but nothing came down except a bit of fresh air from above. He shrugged it off, and returned to his conversation with Veronica.
Indeed, if he wanted to bring down the Black Arms, he needed to do it somehow, even if that was by luring them out by hurting the very man he used to be great friends with. Although for half a second it occurred to him that it might not be ethical, but due to the fact that Roald was now an idiot and the Black Arms had to pay for their crimes against him, it passed by like a Ghoul without an appetite.
"We don't have any reason to attack any of them. They don't bother us, we don't bother them. You might think we are heartless and stupid like thieving gangs, which are usually only in the business for the money and the fun of being sneaky. No, no, us Nortirpleans have different objectives in mind for the world, although we will resort to trickery and thieving if need be."
"I see. Well..." A new tactic situated itself in Pa*uet's mind. If he couldn't come to the Black Arms, maybe he should get them to come to him...

"Tell them I know something they don't want to be let loose and that they should send one of their intermediates to the Sewers with 10,000 gold coins if they want their secret to be kept safe."
"How do I know you're not lying, old man?" Veronica had seen things like this before, and she wasn't about to fall for an old man's tricks.
"Hmhm. Teleother Remote: Varrock Sewers!" Veronica felt herself melting away into the sky, and her sight faded to black as she still held the Grether Pen, and she felt her particles moving north, then below, passing through something solid, and then finally materializing in beside an old man in white garments with a smile on his face, obviously Pa*uet.
"Luckily for me you left your mind wandering off enough for me to summon up enough energy and Runes to teleport you here... Otherwise I would have never been able to do this." Pa*uet laughed as Veronica turned around to see him insulting her.
"Pa*uet... You tricky old bag!" Veronica didn't have a weapon concealed within her outfit, and she knew that she didn't have much of an advantage because of her armor.
"Well, it seems that you're trapped here, now doesn't it? With your armor and apparently no weapon to boot, and me being a grand mage, I would assume that you best do what I say!" Pa*uet mumbled something quickly and Veronica found herself glued to the spot she was standing, all her body parts frozen except for her head, which she was barely able to move.
"You... What do you want? I swear, once the rest of the Nortirpleans find out about this... You'll wish you were licking the grease from a rat's dinner while being suspended over a rump roast!"
"Stop trying to act tough. You don't have a choice. Here are my demands. Converter Block: Teleport Enhancer." A small silver ladybug shot out from Pa*uet's hand and it flew into Veronica's chest and through her clothing and skin, which made her scream.
"What did you do to me?! What was that?! Tell me!!"

"Quite simple. You give off feelings of panic and anxiousness, the energy is used to help me teleport you using Teleother Remote. In other words, you'll never be able to tell as long as that little bug rides within your heart. And if you thought that was enough, look at this... Oholadia Scatter...!" Pa*uet's left hand began to form thousands of little diamond-like bullets and he flung them straight at Veronica, and she screamed again, until the bullets phased through her, hit the wall, and phased away into nothing.
"Hmm, that's fun, but it would be even more fun if I could do the real spell, Holadia Scatter, on a Black Arm member... Perhaps their leader?" Pa*uet winked at Veronica, who felt both ashamed and furious at the old man for having her trapped in a situation that she couldn't get out of. She wanted to live... But she couldn't betray the Nortirpleans! Maybe it was best to let him kill her... Still, she was awaiting so much left, like the awkwardness of Beraw and his obvious love for her, and then Levantris's rewards from Jipalar...
"I... I don't know what to do. You don't care, but right now I'm having trouble deciding whether to let go of my life and keep my loyalty to the Nortirpleans, or just give in to you. But... If I had to make a choice... I'll die. Do it. I don't care what you do to me, as long you put me out of my misery..." Veronica stared down at the floor, still in Pa*uet's holding spell.
"Come now, would I really honor that wish? You must have at least something minor to tell me that... We could keep secret from your little group. Just tell me one thing, and I'll let you go. I promise." Pa*uet winked at her again.
She gulped at this offer. Would it really, really be worth it...?
She decided yes.
"Fine, fine! Levantris and his crew are going off to Jipalar Warehouse in a couple of days. Now let me go! I feel low enough being bound by some old man!!"

"Aye, and a Teleother Ardougne to you too, Veronica." Pa*uet threw the necessary Runes in the air and they gave off a purple aura, and then Veronica shrieked again, but it was cut off as she melted away and was teleported to Ardougne.
"I hate you... I really hate you..." The text appeared on the Brisia Note, but Pa*uet didn't need to look at it, for he already knew she would hate being teleported all the way over there. He just liked to have fun with people because serving Roald rarely had any action, like that time he shot a fireball at some idiot with jet black hair and made him scream like there was no tomorrow.
But of course that was child's play compared to busting the Black Arms at such a remote place - Jipalar Warehouse. Pa*uet climbed up the ladder and hopped out, and then he went back to the king's castle, where he entered the throne room and found Roald snoring on his royal seat, until Pa*uet cleared his throat loudly and Roald woke up.
"Y-Yes, mommy? I don't want the paddle, mommy! No! Aah! What? Oh... It's just you, Pa*uet... What a relief. I assume you have the information?" His fingers drummed on the armrest of his throne.
"Yes, Your Majesty. The Black Arms will be going to Jipalar Warehouse just outside of Burthrope in about two days. What course of action would Your Majesty prefer to take?"
"Arr. Burthrope... I'm not sure whether to send our best people or just let the Imperial Guard know about this and let them handle it. After all, you never know if the Black Arms could assault this castle again..." He looked off to the side, and Pa*uet stroked his beard and thought for a minute.
"If I may make a suggestion... Send me alone on the journey, and fortify your defenses here. Remember, Your Majesty, I have teleports to quite a lot of places... And it will only be for the better."
"Pa*uet... Sigh. Fine. I may as well. But I can't let you go without Sevan and Irtia! Uhh... Could you call them for me?" Roald chuckled nervously.

"Ok... Sevan!! Irtia!! Your Majesty wants the both of you down here right now!!" Pa*uet yelled to the ceiling with extra vigor because he used magic to aid his elderly voice.
Two minutes passed, and then a ranger with brown, scruffy hair, a young, less than tanned handsome face, ocean blue eyes, and clad in black dragonhide armor with a Crystal Bow darted in, tripped on the carpet, and laughed to himself nervously. Right behind him came in a woman with a long ponytail with golden hair, with strands of red-orange hair highlighting spots in it. She wore a famed Dragon Chainbody, a blood-red Dragon Skirt, some stylish lavender boots with golden lacing wrapping itself around them in a heart-like fashion, a large red mace in her left hand, and most noticeable of all, a rainbow-colored necklace with a Dragonstone embedded in the center.
"Sometimes I'm amazed at the things you do, Paquet... Anyways. Sevan. Irtia. I have a job for you two to do."
"What is it, Your Majesty? Me and Irtia really don't get much to do around here... The most recent mission either of us have had was around twenty years ago... 'Course Irtia was only 6 back then, but I remember it. Awesome night, I tell you... But so sad." The ranger'* voice was the stereotype of a hero's, but it was slightly deeper due to his age.
"Aye, indeed, Sevan. But now the same gang plans to go to Jipalar Warehouse in Burthrope, for whatever reason. This is our chance to get some revenge on them from this morning!" Roald slammed his fist on the throne, and then shook it in the air because he hit it too hard.
Irtia took no offense at Sevan's comment, for he did that all the time to get a kick of her being mad at him for saying such things.
"Your Majesty wants you two to go with me to Jipalar and help me take down the Black Arms, especially their leader... I know he's going to be there and I want to kill him..." Pa*uet said.
"Fine." Irtia nodded.
"Cool!" Sevan said.

`-=-| Chapter 10: Dragging the Day On... And Then Putting It to Sleep |-=-'
That was sick, uncalled for, sick, just insane and totally unexpected, sick, a nightmare, and did she mention sick?
Sonia woke up on the floor from where O'Hinal had forcefully kissed her, only to see another strange face very close to her.
She shrieked and then moved backwards in a spider-like motion to get away from whoever it is, until she saw the red bangs covering the person's eyes and that slightly creepy, plastered smile on the person's face.
"Hey! What happened to you?" Reitar said, his voice upbeat and curious.
"Ugh... You would not believe. That... That... Pig!" Sonia got up from the dirty floor and didn't bother to dust herself off, because then that would get her hands dirty.
"Who? Vinnin? I'm telling you, Sonia, if he gets on your nerves again, I'll straighten him out... No problem!"
"No! It wasn't Vinnin! It was that freak O'Hinal!" She shook her head violently and gagged at the very mention of the name O'Hinal.
"O'Hinal? Huh, he used to be in the same group as me and Vinnin, but he got demoted for some reason... I can't remember it. I always knew he couldn't be trusted. What'd he do, anyways?" Reitar casually walked over to the chair and sat down on it, still watching Sonia, his smile at least trying to fluctuate every once in a while so it wouldn't bother her.
"My gosh... I don't... Do you... Even want to hear it? It's so disgusting I can't even say it out loud!" Sonia gagged again at the horrific memory of the event that had only taken place a few hours ago.
Reitar jumped out of the chair eagerly and darted up to Sonia, and put his ear out to her.
"C'mon, you can tell me. Why would I spread it around? I don't have any reason to hurt you, Sonia. Please!"
Now why would a thief say please? Reitar sure was a strange character, but at least he wasn't sneaky like Levantris was! Sonia pondered that, took a deep breath, and whispered to Reitar.

"Well... Um... I don't know... I really don't know if I should tell you, Rei. I think you might understand, but... I really don't feel comfortable telling anyone! Sorry..." Sonia turned around from Reitar's ear and put her hand on the bridge of her nose, her mouse-brown hair like a stripe among the gray and black of the Rogue's that she wore.
"Aww... Well. I'm really itching to hear a bit of gossip... Hasn't really been anything good to pick up on other than Jipalar. And it's one whole day until that goes down! So it's like... I'm bored! All Vinnin does is walk around the place and gripe about how all his secret hopes and dreams are shattered, and that's just depressing to hear." Reitar'* smile was still as prominent as ever. Sonia wondered if his face ever got tired of posing such a happy exterior...
"But here's the thing, Rei. What happened to me is messed up in all kinds of ways. How come you wanna listen to something like that...?" Sonia looked up into the hallway, where the dim lights showed the dirt in the bricks.
"Oh. Heh. I guess... I guess you're right! Well... Um... I'll be going now, see ya!" Reitar spat out that last sentence quickly, grinned nervously, and darted off through the hallways, as if he was late for something.
"Well... That was strange... Just like Levantris. Sigh. It seems like the longer I spend here, the weirder it gets..." Sonia walked off through the hallways. She wanted to find the group that participated in the Rising Sun Deal, except O'Hinal... She was bored and needed someone other than Reitar or Vinnin to talk to.

--

"This is a drag, Pa*uet! We have to wait an entire day until we get to have some fun! My gosh! What are we going to do?!" Sevan ran his Ring of Wealth around his finger, and sat on one of the chairs in the Varrockian Library. Irtia blew at her golden bangs, bored as much as Sevan was, and Pa*uet and Reldo were engaged in a conversation about an old romantic novel.
