Chapter 9: Trial

"Assassins? In this small village?" Marcello began to doubt his intentions. He quietly stepped into the village with his blade by his side. "Nonsense. This village seems too peaceful at night." An older man with dark brown hair approached Marcello. The man wore steel plated armour and his facial expression was very displeased with Marcello's presence.

The man crossed his arms, he seemed very impatient. "And what the hell are you doing here, Assassin Hunter?" said the man with a dissatisfied voice. His eyes pierced Marcello. The Assassin Hunter gulped, his nervous eyes dilated. Marcello examined what the man was wearing, which did appeared to be an Assassin's choice of armour.

Another form of evidence was the dried up blood that splattered parts of the armour. "Forgive me." muttered Marcello. He disappeared as quickly as he appeared. He suddenly appeared behind the man and readied his blade. The man spun back and prepared his weapon...but it was too late.

Marcello's blade pierced the flesh the man as quickly as a cobra's deadly fast strike. The man's blood rained down onto the tan dirt pathway, tainting it red. The man's breath was stolen from his body, then his eyes sluggishly closed shut. Marcello gently placed his body down while careful pulling his sword out.

As quiet as a bird's flight, Marcello stood firm on his feet with his victim laying lifeless upon the ground. The assassination went perfectly, without a cry or scream to break the silence of the night. The young Assassin Hunter felt guilty for his decision, but he knew that it was best for the Holy Kingdom. Marcello's keen blue eyes gazed at the next place to attack.

At Falador, the night grew still. Abaddon was staring out the window of the emperor's room. His left hand held softly on his scythe while his right hand dangled down. He had an emotionless facial mask on his face. His eyes moved across the entire city. The door to the room creeps open, which reveals Raven. Abaddon had his back turned away from the door but he knew who it was.

"Raven," the Angel of Death said, "I'm glad you are still awake even during this hour."

"What is it that you desire, father?" he replied.

"Reveal yourself." his voice sounded serious.

You could tell that Raven was surprised by the sudden command to reveal himself. The masked headmaster sighed and placed his left hand on his mask. "As you wish, master." Raven took off his mask, revealing Khalid. His once tan skin had begun to turn pale white as if one was ill. His orange eyes began to turn red. These characteristics were typical for demons, not humans.

Khalid gazed upon his master with a curious expression. "Does me showing my face make you at ease, sire?" he asked.

Abaddon glanced at his scythe. It glittered like diamonds by the moonlight hitting it. "Not exactly," Abaddon replied, his pitch black eyes scrolled down the snath of his scythe, "I just had to affirm a certain fact."

"And what would that be?"

A slight giggle came from Abaddon, and Khalid knew something was definitely not right. Abaddon glances back at Khalid bearing a twisted smile. Khalid gulped, holding his breath. He knew Abaddon never smiles, especially like he is now, unless a pleasuring thought of pain or agony crossed his mind. Abaddon took a step closer to Khalid.

Khalid took a step back. "What is it, sire?!" he silently cried. He began to fear for his own life. The headmaster could not see Abaddon's face as it was covered by darkness. But he did however see a pitch black hand reaching out. Closer and closer, the hand drew to Khalid's forehead. And all Khalid heard was the quiet giggle of his master. And he could not move a muscle, his body was paralyzed by fear.

Back at the small village of Dannati. The midnight grew darker, and the cries and screams of Assassins smothered the night. The repulsive smell of blood cluttered the air. Young Assassin Hunter Marcello Saif-Al-Din stepped back into the night, his Green-colored Audience clothes was bloodied by his victims. And his sword was drenched in crimson.

The pupils in his eyes weren't blue, like they usual were. But they were crimson red, like the color of his brother Ba'al 's usual eye color. He stood by the door of the house he just escaped and gazed into the night sky. His thought was lost by the beauty of the glittering stars, without the cloud in the sky. The night was flawless.

Marcello did believe that these people were Assassins, for they were hostile and drew their weapons without a sudden warning. Maybe they were just acting on instinct, maybe they eagerly believed that his intentions were not for their benefit. He could only wander his mind on the subject, but he knew that he'll never get an answer to his many questions.

But a soft sound rushed into his ear, it sounded like rapid footsteps. They were faint, but Marcello heard them. Marcello disappeared and ran across the village, looking for the survivor. After a minute, the Assassin Hunter stopped looking and just stood in place. Suddenly, from behind, he heard a rush of footsteps drawing ever closer.

Marcello turned around and saw a man with a Iron Longsword raised in his hand. "Raaaaaah!!" he yelled, running toward Marcello. The Assassin Hunter shook his head side to side, disagreeing with the Assassin's decision. "You fool," he mumbled, "you've just made a fatal mistake."

Marcello thrusts his sword into the Assassin's gut. Blood splattered onto the Assassin Hunter's face. Marcello took his blade back and the Assassin fell to the dirt, his body completely lifeless. His battle cry was cut off without victory, but the end of his life. Marcello wiped the blood of his victim off his face.

The blood slowly dipped down from Marcello's left index finger to the dirt. But oddly enough, Marcello seemed to enjoy the feeling and sight of blood on his hands judging by the fact he had a slight pleasureful smile on his face. It was strange, he thought. But he knew that enjoyment of the sight of blood was the beginning to the path he so greatly hated.

A path of immorality, iniquity, and diabolically deeds. He never wanted to go down that path, but now that he has been put in the place of a person who caused a massacre...

He seemed to feel much admiration from taking a life. The power, the feeling of being an upper justice. He knew this was a strong sign of corruption. But it consumed him like a drug—one taste of it, and he was utterly addicted to it.

The next morning, the sun rose into the blue sky. At Varrock, from the south, clouds began to move in. It seemed like a storm brewing despite it being in the beginning of Winter. Apparently, a heat wave from the desert was coming through. An oddity, indeed.

Sarah opened her eyes, and sat up from her pillow. Her hair was a bit messy, bedhead perhaps. She looks out the window, and right when she does an strange feeling filled her body. It was a feeling she couldn't shake. Like a feeling of paranoia. She jumped out of her bed, and walked over to a mirror. She grabbed a brush and regulated her hair back in place.

She closed her eyes and lets out a sigh. She reopened her eyes and stepped away from the mirror. She rushed down the stairs and right out the door. She was outside, but she looked left and right. Sarah quickly went back indoors and looked for her sword. She searched everything. Wherever she searched, she made that area deranged.

Sarah finally found her sword right by the bracelet Janak gave her right before he died. She stopped wearing because it would make her disheartened. She grabbed it off the table and gazed at it for a moment. Memories flooded her head. "Are you alright?" a familiar voice asked.

She had zoned out for a moment. Until the voice asked the concerned question. She turned around and saw Joshua. His body wasn't wounded, despite the battle he had just went through the night before. But the veins in his right arm were sticking out like a sore thumb.

"What happened to your arm?" she also asked, curious.

Joshua shook his head. "Nothing you need to concern yourself with." the young man looked at the bracelet Sarah had in her hand. His eyes slightly widened for a moment, but then went down. "Who's bracelet is that?"

Sarah's eyes went down. "This..bracelet was the one Janak gave me before he died."

He placed his hands into his pant's pockets. "I apologize for asking."

Sarah giggled. "It's no problem, you dork."

"You're giggling?"

"Is that a bad thing? Sorry.."

Joshua shook his head. "There's no need to apologize. It's not a bad thing."

Sarah sat down. "Well, last time I called you a name, you kind of-"

"I was only speaking the truth." he sat right by Sarah. "I'm not going to repeat myself, but I am glad you are not in the mopes."

"I'm sorry."

"Now what are you apologizing for?"

"For treating you like I would Janak." she sighed. "It's just-"

"I understand Sarah."

"I've got a question." her voice sounded serious. "Why do you defend the innocent the way you do? And why do you always seem to be there when I need help?"

Joshua sighed. "I protect the innocent because I feel my fate is chained to protecting other people. And I just feel a strong need to always shadow you."

"But why?"

"I don't want you to go through anymore suffering."

"I appreciate it."

"Sarah." his eyes glanced at Sarah. They were filled with earnest. "I'll never let anything hurt you again. I won't be like Janak, and die. I'll stay here, and never fade away. I'll be your guardian angel from here on in."

She gazed upon Joshua's face and a smile grew on her face. "I'm glad you feel that way, Joshua." Little did they know that a pair of azure blue eyes were staring at them through the window. A bloodthirsty smile grew on the vampyre's face. "That must be her," muttered the vampyre, "Sarah Wolfsbane."

She grabbed her black spear and readied her aim at Sarah. She hurled her spear when she was accurately ready. The spear crashed through the window and shards of glass burst through the air. Joshua quickly jumped to his feet and readied himself. He quickly grabbed the spear right before it made any contact with Sarah.

Joshua looked toward the window where the spear came from and nobody was there. The young man drops the spear with a stern expression on his face. "She's here." he mumbled.

Sarah heard what he said and shot to her feet. "Who's here?!" she said with a slightly frantic voice.

"Lilith," he replied, "the vampyre Assassin."
