A little (or not so much) update: Some of you may remember that a while back I mentioned that my computer said it's hard drive was likely to stop working soon. About 8 months, and several clever tricks to make it ignore the growing number of hard drive errors, it's seems that my computer is finally dying. Currently, it seems all my data is inaccessible (I can access the internet but only on IE *groan*)

I'm currently trying to work around this, but it's quite likely I won't be able to. Given that, there is a high chance of me NOT adding today. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Another add, and Zaros won't be answering prayers. Interesting. "There is no Good or Evil, no Light or Dark, Order or Chaos. Just knowledge and your own ability to know when to stop. And if you knew when to stop, you'd never achieve the impossible."

Despite being in a military camp, Amatsu had still managed to live in comfort. His tent was spacious, and held a comfortable couch in place of the cots most of his men slept in. He spent the majority of the hottest part of the day inside that tent, seated upon the couch, reading through scouting reports and hearing any concerns or grievances his troops had. Despite this, he was the first of his army ready to leave on their "evening" marches (evening being understood to mean when the largest of the suns had set.) This behavior led his troops to jokingly comment to one another that he never slept.

Jokes aside, his tireless diligence in handling his army, and his ever cheerful demeanor had earned Amatsu his troops' respect. Several soldiers had voluntarily decided to act as a sort of honor guard, and spent the day standing guard outside Amatsu's tent in alternating shifts. There were a few troops who didn't like this, mostly veteran Zarosians who had remained loyal even before Azzanadra had opened the portal, or the Black Pentagram had been destroyed, in the process allowing Zaros an avatar on Gielinor. However, even these people had nothing to say against Amatsu personally; their issue was with the soldiers who would accord Amatsu a level of respect equal to the old Zarosian heroes; Azzanadra and Nex.

Amatsu did nothing to discourage either side. He knew that at least for the moment, it was important to have as little dissent as possible, and that taking sides had a high probability of causing hard feelings between his troops.

Finishing with one report, Amatsu put a small candy into his mouth (it was commonly known by his troops that Amatsu had a sweet tooth, and some of the more admiring of his "honor guard" saw that there was a dish of the candies Amatsu's personal chef made, on the general's report table.) Having placated his sweet tooth for a moment, Amatsu picked up the next report and began to read.

He hadn't managed to finish that one page when he noticed the shadow of one of his soldiers fall across his tent. "Come in," he said, never looking up from the report in his hand.

"Pardon this intrusion," said one of his "honor guard" entering the tent with a deep bow.

"There's no need to be so formal," said Amatsu, lowering the report and giving the soldier a friendly smile. "What brings you here?"

"One of our scouting parties found some people in the jungle, not far from the camp," said the guard.

"Oh?" commented Amatsu as he popped another candy in his mouth, "What's special about these people?"

"They seem to be Guthixians..." replied the guard.

"Guthixians?" asked Amatsu, "Now, that is interesting. Guthix must have sent his group into Muspellheim as well. Where are they right now?"

"We're keeping them under guard," replied the soldier.

"That just won't do," sighed Amatsu, "The Guthixians are our allies after all. I will want to speak with them."

"Shall I send for them, sir?" asked the guard.

"Please do," answered Amatsu, "Oh, and if possible, could you run by the cook's tent and tell her I am ready for lunch? Also, ask her to prepare more food than normal; I will be having lunch with those Guthixians, so make sure she knows to make enough food for four."

"Yes, sir," replied the guard, leaving the tent. He made his way straight to the cook's tent, and was almost there before he realized that he had never told Amatsu how many Guthixians had been captured.

Kutheostra sat at her desk, looking over various reports sent to her from all over Muspellheim. Despite the protests of her Deva allies, she had placed spies in every major city, and was constantly being informed of every statement made and every attitude shown by the Deva lordlings. She had recently received reports of a secret meeting amongst the Deva leaders, and that shortly after this meeting, the same leaders seemed to have gained a sense of smugness. Combining this knowledge with the the reports of her own patrols catching small groups of troops passing into the borders of Stork territory, Kutheostra had quickly been made aware of an imminent attack.

However, she wasn't sure about where the attack would be; nor was she quiet certain who her enemies were or how many troops they had. She was however fairly certain that the enemies' first real objective would be taking Stork Capital; not only was it closer, but it possessed less of a fighting force, and an inexperienced commander.

Lady Stork was a true born noble lady; she was intelligent and benevolent, and therefore well loved by her people, even if some of her male subjects referred to her in somewhat disparaging terms from time to time, or made comments about having a women on the throne. However, she was no fighter; as was proper of a Deva lady, she had never even seen a battlefield, much less actually fought.

Lady Harrier was a different story; well past her youth, her skill in battle and her greying hair had earned her the title "the iron lady." The other Deva lords could make all the comments about her gender and her age that they wanted, but none were foolish enough to do it to Harrier's face; she could best any of them in a duel. Likewise, Harrier had fought in the last "War of Light and Shadows" (that is, the last war between the Deva and Asura) and although she might dislike the Asura's fighting style, she had to admit it was effective. As such, she had asked Kutheostra for help when it seemed war might break out.

Having fought against Harrier's forces in the war, Kutheostra had respect for Harrier and her fighting prowess, (albeit not her "stuffy" Deva ways) and had agreed. Lady Stork had been shocked on meeting Kutheostra, and had made it clear, that although she would accept Kutheostra's help, she expected the Asura to stay far away from her cities except in times of dire emergency. As such, Kutheostra had taken up residence in the basement of Harrier's palace, much to the shock of the Deva.

Kutheostra paused in her work as a low laugh began in the far corner of the room.

Putting down her reports, Kutheostra asked, “What's making you excited, Uavia?”

Hearing her master's voice, a hyena larger than a fully grown human emerged from the shadows, laughing hysterically and looking toward the door with anticipation.

“Is someone coming to pay us a visit?” asked Kutheostra as she stroked the hyena's head, “Who is it, Uavia?”

Uavia began laughing louder as the door opened to admit a Deva servant boy. Upon seeing the Deva, Uavia jumped toward him, nearly toppling him over.

“Alright,” he laughed, “I get it, you're hungry. Here you go.” The servant placed a dish with several large chunks of meat on the ground, which Uavia quickly began gobbling up.

Once the hyena was occupied, the servant boy turned to Kutheostra and bowed.

“You came to visit again,” said Kutheostra, a mischievious grin on her face. “Don't tell me your hungry again?”

The Deva turned beet red and sighed. “Why must you tease me so?” he asked, as his form shifted from that of a Deva to an Asura in a red uniform.

Kutheostra smirked. She had many spies such as this one spread out across Muspellheim, but of them, only a handful would wear red uniforms showing their allegiance to Kutheostra. The vast majority of incubi and succubi, even those she employed as spies, would only wear the deep violet uniforms belonging to Mephos' subjects.

This particular spy was unique; while it was true that Kutheostra needed capable spies working in the houses of Harrier and Stork to be certain that neither were plotting betrayal, she had another, more personal reason for keeping this one near her.

With a quick motion, Kutheostra pulled the incubus close to her and forcibly kissed him. She had caught him off guard, so it took a few moments before she could feel the tingling, pleasurable sensation that incubi and succubi give in exchange for the lifeforce they feed upon.

Kutheostra had every intention of going farther, but was interrupted as the door began to open. Groaning to herself she released the incubus and turned to face the door. As she expected, the incubus was able to return to his Deva disguise almost immediately. However, she did not expect the person who walked through the door.

A lady dressed in armor made of tempered steel walked through the door. Her iron grey hair was tied back into a bun, and her eyes, grey in color, but sharp as a hawk's scanned the room once before stepping into the door. Satisfied that there were no Asura assassins in the shadows, the lady walked into the room.

“Lady Harrier,” said Kutheostra, “To what do I owe the pleasure?”

“We've found that army your scouts discovered,” Harrier's voice was sharp and imperious, as might be expected from one accustomed to being obeyed.
