We can have a rematch on.....Friday.

For now, I have big, important work to do.

EDIT: I may have failed at that game, but I killed you, and your side of the combat triangle was supposed to pwn mine!

Inexcusable! I had four sharks left when you had none!

The traveler remained perfectly still. He had matured a great deal in the many years that had followed the adventure that which given him the staff. If this had not been the case, should the old man have done as he was doing now; taking a large swig of his ale, and several puffs of his pipe, the traveler would have indignantly demanded he begin telling his story as promised.

Having just downed a gulp of ale, the old man seemed satisfied and began, “Once, there was an incubus, by the name of Liam Prescott.”

-I do wish to know of an incubus, but that is not the name of the one I am looking for,- thought the traveler. Still, he remained silent, knowing that things often related even if they did not appear so at first. Besides, the name Prescott sounded familiar.

“Ah, you recognize the name?” asked the old man, tilting back his rocking chair, “Yes, Prescott, as in Calin Prescott, the child... or if you'd rather, the scion, of order. She and her husband, Iohnus Prescott adopted Liam when he was but a young child. That is relevant to my tale... for you see, Liam was a child who aimed to please. However, despite his best efforts, he was a Mazoku, and like most males of that race, was effeminate. Far more so than his adopted father, a Tenzoku, would have liked.

As such, the little incubus often seemed to fall short of his father's wishes, while his foster brothers performed excellently. On the surface, Liam seemed unconcerned by this, however... deep down, something began to feed off it. Perhaps you know of what that thing was?”

“The seed of corruption,” replied the traveler.

“Indeed,” answered the old man, taking another puff of his pipe. “The seed of corruption... because the souls of all sentients are made from a fragment of the Absolute and one of Akyros. The former part gives them noble aspirations; love, kindness, patience, diligence and the like, and the latter gives them base aspirations, hatred, pride, greed, vengeance... A person must choose between the choices each of these suggests, and by making decisions, strengthens one or the other.

On the surface, Liam chose mostly from the good impulses he had... he was regarded amongst Norizoku society as a kindhearted, gentle, and altruistic individual. Of course, no one really noticed the struggle within Liam... the resentment he felt for being taken for granted, the grudges he held for those who used him, nor his desires which he both struggled to understand and to which he tried to figure out how he should react.”

Again the old man paused, this time to take a gulp of his ale. “Of course,” he said, after he had swallowed the ale, “You know about incubi, don't you?”

“They and the succubi experience emotions at an intensity above that of an average person, of any race,” replied the traveler, “They also have a strong drive to... procreate, if you will.”

The old man nodded, quite happy to let his visitor explain what he already knew, thereby giving the old man more time to drink his ale and smoke his pipe. “And what do you know about the Norizoku?” he asked, wondering if he could get another swig in before continuing.”

“They have a highly structured, legalistic society,” replied the traveler, “And deviancy is highly frowned upon, if tolerated at all...” the traveler paused, and stared off into the distance before adding, “So Liam would have repressed or hidden any desires he felt were not in the norm of Norizoku culture.”

“Exactly,” said the old man. “Of course, that doesn't make problems go away... and thus, before long, Liam had quite the unpalatable side. He did a good job of keeping it hidden most of the time, however, there were... incidents, where this side came out.

Because of this, he was prodded to leave Folkvangr by some of the Norizoku, and soon did, first traveling to Muspellheim, then to his race's homeland, Niflheim. It was there that Liam perfected his magical... and rose in fame and popularity. He spent much of his time traveling from village to village, helping those in need. However, this did not destroy the evil seed which had grown within him... rather it continued to grow, and become more twisted and deformed... but that is a story for another time. What you wanted to know was about the staff, was it not?*

The traveler nodded.

“That staff was given to Liam by the Dark Mother, Lilith, she who is queen over all Niflheim,” said the old man, I am certain he is searching for it... or rather, the staff searches for him.

“Wait,” said the traveler, “But this staff doesn't belong to a “Liam Prescott” it belongs to...”

“The same person,” interrupted the old man, “Or rather, who that person became. You've met him haven't you?”

Recognition lit up the traveler's face and bowing slightly to the old man, he said, “Thank you for your time, I must be on my way.” Without waiting for a reply, the traveler turned and practically sprinted out of the old man's cottage.

The old man watched him go with a slight smile on his face, and, taking another puff of his pipe said to no one in particular, “Now, things will get interesting...”

“Ah, this is the last of them,” observed Isamu as he looked over the corpses littering the temple he and his troops had just ransacked.

“Ah, is this all they could accomplish?” asked one of his troops, a man clad in black and red robes which seemed more befitting of a Zamorakian than one of Zaros' allies.

Isamu gave the man a questioning look; he was tolerating these members of the Cult of the Void only because Lord Zaros did. He honestly couldn't stand them and the way they worshiped Akyros, the epitome of destruction and nothingness... But if Zaros deemed them allies, then who was Isamu to complain? Especially as one of their number had retrieved Kalechot for Zaros. However, their habits irked Isamu to no end... already several had skinned the skulls of the murdered Pagkosmios Cult members and were collecting blood in those skulls. Isamu had seen this ritual enough times to realize they would drink the blood they had collected shortly, and personally, he did not want to watch it again.

With this in mind, he marched out of the temple, leaving the Cult of the Void behind to do as they pleased.

“Yo! Isamu!” Rue shouted as he noticed the warrior exiting the temple, “I found something interesting!”

“What is it?” asked Isamu.

Rue grinned and pressed something into Isamu's hand. For a moment, the warrior vividly remembered when Rue had “found” an eyeball (in some poor Zamorakian's head) and given it to Isamu as a “gift.” However, to his relief, whatever was in his hand at the moment did not feel like an eyeball, rather it was hard and edged... as Isamu opened his hand to get a good look, he barely managed to suppress a gasp.

“Rue, is this what I think it is?” he asked.

“Think so,” replied Rue.

“But... what should we do with it?” asked Isamu, “If Lord Zaros knew about this...”

“He would want us to use it to his advantage,” replied Rue, “How do you suppose we could do that?”

Isamu's brow furrowed and he stared into the distance, lost in thought. “This borders treason,” he finally said.

“But if it goes well, Zaros will be very pleased with us,” countered Rue.

“You're right,” replied Isamu, “Go ahead and take this where it needs to go. Confirm our suspicions... I don't want to come to the Great Lord with mere speculations.”

“Yes sir!” replied Rue, taking the object back. “Bye Isamu!” he shouted before running off.

The Zarosian sighed as he watched Rue go. If his suspicions were correct, he and Rue had just uncovered something that could either speed or slow Zaros' goals tremendously. Wandering aimlessly, Isamu remembered Zaros' words from before; “either kill or get the child of the Void on our side, no matter what the costs...” Isamu hoped that Zaros had meant that literally.

Of course, there was no reason to believe otherwise. This was the same Setkul Akyros who had nearly taken out one of the most advanced civilizations in existence single-handedly, and there was no reason to believe he couldn't destroy another, less powerful society... given the right motivation of course. But, if this backfired, it would mean that same power would be turned against Zaros... quite the gamble, but one Isamu eventually concluded was worth taking. With this in mind, he gathered up his map, and charted the way to the next Pagkosmiosian Temple.

Niht, you're one of my favourite writers. You have very few grammatical errors, you can create great, deep storylines with mysterious backstories and brilliant plots.

Niht, you are officially one of my literary heroes.

Also, Calin is generally accepted as a guy's name. But that is a small thing. It's your choice what name is what. Loving the new adds!
