Far in the north, amidst the unblemished white landscape of freshly fallen snow stands a battlefield even more scarred and desolate than the depths of the wilderness. Dotting this landscape are several fortresses, each more grand than the last. This is the land known only as “The North”; hidden from all outsiders, it sees use only once every few centuries, when all the planets rotating around the star known as Essain are in perfect alignment with each other. And at that time, the battlefield, the skies above it, the seas near to it, and the caverns below it are torn asunder by powers beyond human comprehension. For on that day, the Mahjarrat gather from every corner of Gielinor to conduct a ritual as ancient as the stars themselves; and in doing so, one of their number will die, and the others will be restored to their full glory to carry out their schemes until the next ritual.
Bilrach knew this, for he had seen seventeen of these rituals on this plane alone. However in the past, he had been but a weak participant, hiding behind the shadows of the more powerful of his race; first Zamorak, then, when Zamorak had become a god, Zemourgal. Now it was different, he had power that could rival any of them! He could be one of the key players in this ritual, and even that fool, Zemourgal would have to admit to his might!
Or, this was what he had thought. But when he had arrived at the North, he had found to his shock and horror that the entire Zarosian faction had reunited. Azzanadra led them forward to the ritual stone; weakened by being imprisoned through several rituals, but nonetheless more powerful than any other of the Mahjarrat present. Bilrach’s memory burned with the image of how when Zemourgal, de facto leader of the Zamorakian faction had suggested Wahistiel as the sacrifice, Azzandra had shaken his head solemnly and countered that he wanted Zemourgal to be the sacrifice.

This had sparked quite an uproar amongst the Zamorakian faction; and Zemourgal had indignantly demanded why Azzanadra thought of him as weak, to which Azzanadra had replied, “Weak? Not in least. It is because you are strong that I desire you to be the sacrifice; it would be good to have you out of the way, as it would weaken the usurper’s faction considerably. However, perhaps I have underestimated your faction’s power and unity; you suggest one who is weak to be the sacrifice, this shows us that the usurper’s followers are either too weak or too divided to ensure their victory against a true opponent, while we have no doubts that we could bring you down.
Zemourgal, you fool, you have given away the precariousness of your position; I know now that your number have neither great power nor an undivided front. Because of this, I can say with certainty that the sacrifice in this ritual shall not be a Zarosian. We stand united, and shall remain so, even if the time for the ritual comes and goes without a sacrifice. I have withstood missing the ritual many times, while in that pyramid, and I do not fear to do so again…
If you cannot find a sacrifice suitable to my faction, then perhaps another will rise as the spokesman of the usurper’s faction. It seems some have risen to power while you were unaware.”
As Azzanadra finished, Bilrach noticed that the leader of the Zarosian faction was staring at him; Bilrach had realized that very moment that Azzanadra had not failed to notice Bilrach’s rise to power. He had mixed feelings about this. He was pleased that his efforts had granted him such power that he had caught the attention of Azzanadra, but at the same time was worried; he wouldn’t put it past the Zarosians to try and get him out of the picture rather than deal with a new threat.
“Do you normally pace this much while thinking?”

The familiar voice nearly made Bilrach jump. But he maintained enough self control to resist that impulse. Turning around, he found that Azzanadra was leaning against the wall, watching him stoically.
“Azzandra,” said Bilrach, “What brings you here?”
“No need to feign innocence,” said Azzanadra, “We both know that you’ve become extremely powerful… so, let’s talk.”
“About what?” asked Bilrach.
“The next sacrifice,” replied Azzanadra, “My faction has reached a decision we believe will be acceptable to all sides… Hazeel has already agreed, and Khazard has followed suit. Enakhra has also hinted that she supports our choice. Of course, we want you onboard.”
“And who are we talking about?” asked Bilrach.
“A traitor to both Zaros and Zamorak, who has lost much of his power…” replied Azzandra, “I’m sure you know who it is…”

Zemourgal made his way to the ritual stone, followed by Enakhra, Hazeel, and Lucien. A little ways behind them were Bilrach and Khazard, the latter of which had his eyes fixed on Hazeel, and the former of which seemed deep in thought. From the other side of the stone, Azzandra led Sliske, Akthankos, and Wahistiel to meet with the Zamorakians.
“I believe we can choose a sacrifice by the end of this meeting,” began Zemourgal.
Azzandra nodded, but then allowed a smirk to cross his face.
“What is it?” asked Zemourgal.
“I had someone in mind for the sacrifice,” said Azzanadra, “But I may have to change my vote, as a far more worthy sacrifice seems to be arriving.”
“What are you talking about?!” questioned Zemourgal.
“Give it a moment,” replied Azzanadra.
As he finished speaking, a plume of flame shot from the ground and extended into the heavens. When it vanished, a figure in blood red armor bearing an axe larger than most humans appeared.
“Am I late?” questioned the figure, “I did*’t miss anything did I?”

“No,* said Azzandra, “You’re just in time to be the sacrifice.” With this, the Zarosian vanished, appearing moments later in front of the figure and sending a wave of violet energy into it’s head, forcing the warrior to fall to the ground. The warrior quickly recovered and stood up shouting, “Azzanadra!” before brandishing his axe. However, before he could swing it, a series of cracks echoed throughout the battlefield and the warrior’s helmet shattered, revealing a skull.
“Incredible,” gasped the warrior, “You managed to damage the armor of a god! You are indeed powerful amongst the Mahjarrat… but I am a god: power even as great as your’s means nothing to me, and you will pay for your insolence!”
“I see your temper hasn’t been lost with time,” observed Azzanadra, “However… gods aren’t allowed to intervene directly in the affairs of the world, so you can’t do anything against me.”
“He doth speaketh the truth, Zamorak, lay down thine arms. Likewise, Mahjarrat, whilst I am certain thou didst not truly intend to make him the sacrifice, I shalt say for clarity‘s sake; a god may not be the sacrifice for the ritual.”
“Oh great, Mr. Fun-sucker is here to spoil my fun,* groaned Zamorak as a man cloaked in green robes appeared amidst flowers and grass that had miraculously sprouted in the desolate north.
“I know, it’s too bad isn’t it?” came another voice, “I so did wish to see Azzandra slaughter you.” As this voice finished, a bolt of lightning fell from the cloudless sky and from it emerged an old, bearded man in resplendent blue robes, bearing a staff of purest gold which shone like the sun.
“Why are you two here?” questioned Zamorak.
“It is custom for the gods of a world to watch the ritual,” replied Guthix, “And to ensure damage to the world is minimal.”
“Wait, that means everyone else is coming here too?” asked Zamorak.
A crack appeared in the earth, and from it came a being resembling a giant orc, “Yay! Big fight, fight is big!” it shouted.

“Really now?* asked Zamorak, “Bandos is here?”
“As am I,” a musical voice proclaimed, as a large crystal grew from the crack Bandos had made in the earth. The crystal stood for a moment, then shattered, releasing a ethereal lady into the midst of the gods.
“Good day to you, sister,” said Guthix.
“And likewise, brother,” replied the goddess, “Oh, in answer to your question Zamorak, the Menaphite Pantheon and Marimbo decided not to observe this ritual.”
“Wimps,” said Zamorak, “Well, of course, every one of the gods is a wimp compared to me, but Marimbo and the Men-fight-pants-are-on are even weaker than these losers.”
“Arrogant as always, I see,” sighed Azzanadra, “I honestly cannot wait for my lord to wipe that smug look off your face, Zamorak.”
“Ha ha!” laughed Zamorak, “Jokes on you Azzy; Zaros can’t do anything to me because he is dead. D-E-A-D, dead!”
“Exactly who is dead?”
At the sound of this new voice Zamorak screamed, “Eek!” and ran behind a boulder. As he did so tendrils of darkness gathered before the gods and materialized into a figure in a black cloak whose features were concealed by shadows, save a pair of glowing eyes, and a violet symbol which floated before his forehead. Looking disdainfully at the cowering Zamorak, the figure spoke, “I must say,” he said, “I am somewhat impressed Zamorak, you finally learned to spell simple words.”
“Z-Z-Z-Zaros!” exclaimed Zamorak, poking his head out from behind the boulder, “I-I-I’m not s-s-scared of you!”
“So he says, as he trembles behind a rock,” observed Zaros.
“Listen you!” said Zamorak nervously, “I’m a god now! So… so you can’t hurt me!”
“If you’re a god, why haven’t you noticed yet?” asked Zaros.
“Who be that?” asked Bandos as he looked over Zaros, “Oh well, it no matter, me will squish!*
Turning to Guthix, Zaros said, “Let me clarify something; your edicts do not apply to god-vs.-god fights, do they?”
“Not as long as the damage to this world art minimal,” replied Guthix.

“Yep, that’s why, me smash!” shouted Bandos jumping at Zaros.
“You smash?” questioned the empty lord, “Indeed, you will smash something, but it won’t be me.” With an slight motion of his hand, Zaros caused Bandos to float, then sent him flying into a distant mountain. “And he’s a god of war?* questioned Zaros, “How weak…”
“That aside,” said Guthix, “I do not believe we have met face-to-face before… well, almost face-to-face…”
“What’s that mean?” interrupted Zamorak.
“Guthix is referring to what we all noticed besides you and Bandos,” said Saradomin. His voice was clearly tense as he spoke, “What we see before us is not Zaros, but a thought projection… an illusion if you will, from a distant place.”
“So he’s not really here?” asked Zamorak.
“Not as such,” replied Guthix, “But nonetheless, thou wert able to use telekinesis from such a distance… thou art truly a powerful god…”
“Likewise,” said Zaros, “You radiate power, even though what I see before me is but a dream projection.”
“He’s what?” asked Saradomin and Seren together.
“Thou noticed what our brethren didst not** mused Guthix, “Truly thou art on a different level from them.”
Saradomin and Seren looked at one another, it was clear to both of them that Guthix and Zaros were sizing each other up; each aware that the other was nearly equal in strength. Zamorak, on the other hand, seemed oblivious to this, as he spent most of his time trembling behind his boulder.
After what seemed like ages, Zaros and Guthix turned away from each other, with the latter returning to where Seren and Saradomin stood.
“Oh Zamorak, come on out,” teased Zaros.
“I’m not of afraid of you! I really am not!* shouted Zamorak.
“Oh, then I guess you don’t care that I’ve decided to forgive you for that little… ‘incident’… provided of course, you do a small favor for me,” said Zaros.
“I’m not interested!” shouted Zamorak, “But… if I was, what would that favor be? You know, just for curiosity’s sake?"

“Well, you see,” said Zaros, “I was thinking about how I could use a new chair. And when I thought about it, I realized that if you got on your hands and knees, you’d be just about the right height.”
“NEVER!” shouted Zamorak. At which, Zaros shot him a dark glare.
“Um, right,” said Zamorak, “I’ll be watching the ritual from here.” With this, he ran to the mountain Bandos had been tossed into, his godly speed allowing him to arrive in mere seconds. “Yeah!” he shouted, “Right here, best view in the house!”
Zaros laughed under his breath and summoning a throne, took his seat between Guthix and Saradomin, the latter of whom tensed up immediately. Noting this, Zaros turned to Saradomin and said, “Been a while hasn’t it, Saradomin? Oh and you too Seren.”
“Indeed,” replied Saradomin, his voice wavering.
“Oh, actually, I had a question for you,” Zaros continued, “What in Hell is Saranthium?”
“Oh that!” gulped Saradomin, “It was nothing, nothing at all…”
Zaros did not reply, instead staring at Saradomin in such a way that suggested he was seeing straight through the god of wisdom and light. With Zaros’ gaze upon him, Saradomin could feel cold sweat trickle down his bald head. Finally Zaros looked back toward the ritual stone and said, “Is that so?” Even though Zaros’ gaze had been averted, Saradomin was still shaken and had visible trouble keeping his eyes on the ritual.

“Now that the gods are here,” said Zemourgal, “And Zamorak is being a coward,” he added under his breath. “I think it is time to start up the ritual… I nominate my cousin for the sacrifice.”
“What?!” shouted Lucien.
“We agree,” said Azzanadra, getting nods of approval from Sliske, Akthankos and Wahistiel.
“We also approve,” said Hazeel and Enakhra.
“As do I,” added Khazard.
“And I,” said Bilrach
“Wait, why me?!” shouted Lucien, “I’m more powerful than Bilrach, Khazard, or Wahistiel, I could match most of you in fact!”
“Maybe,” observed Azzanadra, “But you’ve lost a lot of power recently.”
“You also made me look like a fool!” shouted Zemourgal, “What with your Stone of Jas fiasco.”
“And more importantly,” said Enakhra, “You were attempting to betray Lord Zamorak. That is unforgivable!”
“You can’t be serious!” shouted Lucien.
“We are,” said Azzanadra, “Prepare yourself, Lucien.”

So... I originally intended to have the ritual in this add... but... I hit 9 pages in Word and did not want to hit 18. So, the ritual will be next add.
Oh and just as a precaution to fend off any Zamorakian readers who think I portrayed their chosen deity untruly I would like to point out this letter from Issue 15 of the God Letters (Zamorak speaks his mind once more)
Player's Letter:
hello zamorak, my screen name in runescape is tahnok113 and i just want you to know that zaros has emerged from deep under the earth to destroy you...
..Ok that's it -- a warning.
Zamorak's Reply:
Za-zaros?
...Ok, thats not funny. Don't. Just don't. I'm not scared of anyone ok? Zaros is gone.
So don't lie to me ok? He's gone, and I'm not scared of him even if he isn't.
HE'S DEAD.
Not scared. Not even worried. At all. DEFINITELY not. Seriously. Anyone who says I got lucky last time is just a dirty liar.
Hah, you're just playing a trick on old Zamorak right? Right? Because I'm not scared at all.
So don't try and scare me like that, because it WON'T work.
I'm totally not scared.
EDIT: Thank you Sir Mercian, it's been fixed.
