Dude this is starting to turn even more pirate-y, with the whole native thing.

Great chapter closer, pretty cliff hanger-esque. It was really good for Joran, it really described him better, kinda. It really showed just HOW resourceful he is, if we didn't already know, and how he works under pressure. Very nice.

Right now, I just made an incredibly random poem about shoes.

------

A shoe is a shoe is a shoe is a shoe
A shoe
A shoe
A shoe
But what if
A shoe was not a shoe?
It could be in disguise...
Like a rabbit, bat, or poo
But I bet a poo wouldn't taste very good
Because we only eat shoes in the hood

Shoes, by Fred Zeppeli.

What are your shoes like?
Are they colorful, to shine while you ride your bike?
Do they have a buckle, big and hard and gold?
Are they socks with sandals, that make you look really old?
Are they boots, that no water gets through?
Are they sneakers, good for running, too?
Or are your shoes a different breed?
Ah, shoes, are they a thing you even need?

We should make a thread where we both post poems about shoes.

Only shoes. :P

~Chapter Three~

Joran, bound by his metal chains and with Uvedin and over fifteen score heavily armed pirates behind him cautiously continued forward, towards the ever more apparent beat of approaching drums.

As Joran took a step over a small, decaying log, Uvedin shouted out “Stop! What is that sound!?”

Joran turned to see Uvedin with his hand placed on the hilt of his sword, and his face lost in thought. He appeared to be straining to hear the noise. Behind Uvedin, the hundreds of pirates were also in similar postures with weapons ready. They were spread thickly over the dense jungle, and were very much overcrowded. As all strained to hear the drum beat, Joran crept backwards slightly, and crouched down behind a tree, facing Uvedin and his crew.

Bom.

Bom.

Bom bom.

Bom bom bom bom bom sounded the heavy drums in a deep, hollow tone that rang out with horror unknown.

Then all was silent, even the sound of birds and bugs seemed to stop. Joran pushed himself closer to tree, huddling in fear. Suspense and fear loomed over the entire group. Uvedin peered out with his ringed hand still carefully hovering just above his blade, awaiting any moment draw and for blood to be shed. For the briefest moment, he thought he caught sight of movement out in front of him, and he walked back several steps into the massive group that was his crew.

Behind Uvedin, one of the pirates thought he heard something. From which direction he could not tell, until he realized that it was not from around him, but from above. He looked upwards, only to have a barbed spear be thrusted through his eye in a shower of blood accompanied with an agonizing scream.

Then, for the briefest moment as all stared at the corpse, a shrill screech rang out from high above, and heavy, fast drumbeats erupted from all sides of the group. From all directions, massive flurries of darts and arrows greeted their targets harshly, slaughtering the dense, crowded group. A massive flood of natives sprinted in from all sides, screaming eerie and shrill battle cries and violently shaking their spears.

Uvedin drew his rapier from his side, and let out a battle cry loud and clear. He charged head on at the oncoming flood of painted, red eyed natives. Behind him, the surviving portion of his crew was being slaughtered by the massive onslaught of natives. Uvedin continued his solo charge towards the vile creatures.

Joran took this to his advantage. He crawled away from the pirate entourage and the suicidal Uvedin, and hid under a bush about twenty-five yards away from the battle.

With his sword raised upwards behind him, Uvedin charged, meeting the massive groups of natives. He continued charging, slashing and stabbing in a flurry of movements while also dodging the thrust of spears.

Now, Uvedin was completely surrounded by hundreds of bloodthirsty natives. The natives circled and circled, none charging, fearing Uvedin’s strength. Then, one charged from behind, and two more charged from in front. Uvedin stood ready, and then slashed in a wide sideways arc towards the oncoming two, cutting them both while bringing the sword facing behind him under his arm, and thrusted backwards into the heart of the native behind him.
