I now see what the purpose of them was, and I withdraw my earlier statement about them being controlling and petty, I apologize for that.
As for ideas on how to avoid this misunderstanding in the future, I believe it might help to make the objects which you spread throughout the thread more relevant to the actual application.
They would seem considerably less like an annoying and 'controlling' addition to your review system if they were made up of actual knowledge that applicants need rather than simply "Put a smiley face at the end of your application" etc.
For instance, rather than dominating how the applicant introduces himself with "hello", perhaps you could ask them to write a small review of their own story (keeping it under one post of course) or of their own writing style, which could be further examined during your review.
Or you could simply put different parts of the rubric throughout the page to ensure that they read it.

I do like the idea of the users adjudicating themselves. This is why I have them submit their own rubric.
For the time being, I suppose I'll remove the controls, save those on the first page. The methods on the first page are not only the most popular throughout all the forums but also the most effective.

In that case, I intend to re-apply.
I don't think I'll change it from its original state though.
If however, this is still incorrect, I would appreciate it if you explained how, so that in three weeks time (or at the next opening for applications) I may apply with a correct application.

Hello.

Application:
Username: Logan Shafts
Story Title: Shafts of Imagination
Quick Find Code: 49-50-608-60677877
Type of Story: Series of Short Stories.
Length: 56 posts.
May I post this review on your story's thread?: Yes.

Please be aware when reading the below rubric that I am attempting to produce it by examining a lot of short stories rather than a single story, and that each of them has its own highs and lows. In attempting to combine so many stories of different styles, I will no-doubt produce a rubric that is rather balanced in the middle of the scoring system, while any given story in the list may have had a higher or lower score.

Literary Tools: 100/150
--Description: 25/40
--Voice: 15/25
--Symbolism: 20/25

--Analysis: 15/20
--Word Choice: 10/20

Structure: 72/120
--Format: 20/40
--Grammar: 20/30
--Usage: 10/20
--Sentence Configuration: 8/15
--Basics: 14/15
Plot: 60/100
--Development: 20/40
--Intricacy: 22/30
--Consistency: 8/15
--Originality: 10/15
Other: 54/90
--Impact: 15/20
--Flow: 10/20
--Conclusion: 12/15
--Theme: 5/15
--Empathetic Ties: 7/10
--Title Relevance: 5/10
Layout: 32/80
--Introduction: 18/30
--Overall Appearance: 8/20
--Title Page: 6/15
--Chapter Configuration: 0/15 (Note: Due to the nature of my thread, I have left this at zero. If this is not okay, please inform me and give me permission to edit this post or to re-post this application, and I will do so.)

Logan Shafts,
Hello. Thank you for your application. Precluding denial of the following terms, it is hereby accepted.
As this will be the first anthology to be reviewed, I will need a bit of input from the author in order to ensure that my review is both helpful and worthwhile. Writing individual reviews for each story is unacceptable, so I will have to resort to some other method of evaluation. A blanket review of the thread as a whole seems as if it might not be specific enough to allow the individualized feedback that a review should provide, so some medium in the middle should be constructed. Your input on the method you would like to see employed is requested.
Furthermore, if you could please repost your rubric filling in the "Chapter Configuration" portion, I would be obliged. In an anthology such as this, "chapter configuration" refers to the organization of your stories according to common themes, traits, qualities, etc. (not necessarily literary). This will also include any index you have.
I will be providing constructive feedback for Creepter's "Origins" throughout the next few days, so only administrative duties for this application will be completed. Because your thread is of a length almost exceeding the "longer" designation, I would not expect your review to be completed before Friday, July 23, 2010. Depending on the organization of the necessary style's creation, this date is subject to change.
If you have any questions, feedback, requests, or information to provide, please feel free to post it. :)

Creepter,
Hello. With regards to your first post, I really don't think you're being defensive at all, much less "soooo defensive". You are presenting explanations at every appropriate instance with no real counterattack, which is a very enviable situation. Your response is the epitome of respectful disagreement and how to phrase it.
I will post the remainder of my response on Origins, as it deals heavily with how to improve.

I'm quite glad to have been accepted, thank you.
We may have to discuss the type of review in length, actually, because it seems to be somewhat of a difficult thing to do. People have in a sense reviewed my thread in the past (namely, Dreamweaver), but he used the method you just mentioned as being unacceptable (that is, going through each story individually).
You might attempt to combine the stories qualities and weakness' together in the manner that I tried when making the rubric which was necessary for application, or it might be better to focus only on my writing style as opposed to the stories themselves.
Let me know what you think of these ideas.
Also, to be honest, I would still leave "chapter configuration" at a zero if that is acceptable. The stories on my thread were posted in the order that they were written in for the most part, and thus any kind of configuration amongst them is purely coincidential.

The date you posted is more than acceptable for me. I understand that your reviews are quality focused, and thus can take a long while to complete. If you find yourself needing more time feel free to extend the date, but please inform me on my thread if that is the case.
Thanks. =]
