The Black Knight

"Y-y-y-y-," stammered the floored guard, whose incompetence it seemed was accompanied by an irritating stutter- though perhaps that was just a reaction to the knife threatening his throat. "Ye've gotta give it a kiss!" He gave a weak laugh and half-gulped, but immediately changed his mind on the gulping front as that moved his Adam's apple far too close to the exposed blade for comfort.

The sound of a room being devastated by fell winds below indicated that the air elemental had descended to follow Brodus, and was currently destroying the interior decoration of the tower in search of the intruder. Whether the elemental had the capability to realise which direction Brodus went in after entering the building- up or down, was another matter entirely, but it was perhaps an option that one wouldn't wish to bet their life on.

Hero of Copperdale VS Villain of Kal'Sea

When performing a sneak mission, there are a number of things one might consider not doing. On this list of things one should probably not do, the act of taking a flying ship and crash-landing it into the middle of the town square, unsurprisingly, ranked quite highly.

As Cirion and John Black squared up against one another, with Kira and Ryokin watching with the twisted bemusement that characterised their fiendish souls, all around the town the hired soldiers and mages were beginning to converge on the town square. Perhaps they would take a while, perhaps not, depending on how near or far they were- but nearer still was the great Keep that stood just across from where the mercenary captain had parked his vehicle.

The portcullis was raised, the doors pulled back, and a contingency of knights stormed out, all ahorse, a dozen in total in rows of three. The first two lines held lances, eight feet of pointed death which charged unforgivingly towards the group, whilst the third and fourth lines were equipped with sword and shield.

Having expected the Devil and still saddling up, these holy warriors were not perturbed when they saw their foes- righteous fury powered their steeds forwards, and they recognised not their opponents for who they were but what they were- consorters of the demonking, sinners and race traitors and heretics of the highest regard. There would be no mercy for the attackers of this town; only death.

The Hive

Ethyl sneered as the monstrosity's charge stopped, growling low like an animal that was surrounded, as the insects began to buzz around the circumference of her freezing cloud. The weather cracked her skin, made her pant, but the hag persevered. She had delved into magic most foul, faced the fumes of the boiling broths in which the succulent experimentations of the hags bore the poisonous fruit of their labours- it would take more than cold weather to damage her cold heart.

The thing's mouth opened, and Ethyl, a being of narcissism and unrelenting cruelty, took this to be a sign of submission. She let two tendrils creep up upon the walking hive of pestilence at either side, almost seductive in their movement, seeking to force the being into a more solid form. The thought of being assaulted from all sides was not one that the hag craved, so boxing the opponent up seemed prudent.

"Put down your sword," she snarled at the creature, more-so to determine its sentience than any need for diplomacy. The hag was more than confident in her abilities to defeat this ********** of nature, regardless of the peculiar strands of magic that was holding it together. Was this an elemental, or something else? Ethyl did not know, and that sparked her curiosity.

"You will serve me as I unlock your secrets," Ethyl purred out, finishing in her mind: whether you like it or not.

Encampment of the Empire

"Ah'm not one t' put my life on the line for a cause Ah'm not believin' in," Karstone Greatjohn said firmly to Alicia, abandoning his crude admiration of her body for the moment in order to have a serious conversation. "No offence to you****'am," he added towards the Tyrannian squadron leader, who rolled her eyes at his dismissal of their cause.

"Tyrrus makes use of us all," Decan Martha declared. "Only by dying in His service can we live in His eternal afterlife. You choose your own fate, adventurer."

"Tyrrus Ah can believe in," Karstone countered, "Ah jus' don' trust the tenants of your empire."

"I'm not here to argue politics, I'm here to save lives. And as the auxiliary puts it, we know more than enough to understand our cause is just." She gave a thankful nod towards Kat, but was far too professional to allow even a cursory smile to accompany it, instead choosing to continue her frowning at Alicia and Karstone.

Meanwhile, Alania was creeping forwards in her light-blue armour, the distinctive amaryte of western Engelain. She did not join Alicia and Karstone, nor did she approach the decan, but instead was staring quite intensely at the so-called 'auxiliary'. There was something about her, something very familiar. It was perhaps culture shock that stopped the young adventuress from immediately understanding the connection between the two, as the last time they had met they had been aboard a boat in the most southernmost point of the most southernmost continent on the planet, searching for a island that was never found and fighting lizardmen and plagues and all sorts of other detestable things.

"You... You were on the Pelagic II, weren't you?" She said, squinting at Kat's face as though it would yield better results than her questioning. "Yes!" She said, deciding that was definitely the case. "We escaped Buda Crow together! I look forward to fighting alongside you once again," and with that, she offered out her hand.

Bowels of the Earth

The behemothic arachnoid, the eldritch abomination which had been unleashed upon the world, spawn of a time not yet passed, set its sights upon Spirry with septical vision. The size disparity between the two was tremendous- a most striking difference in what were essentially beings of a similar origin. Both of them had been exiled from the world for millennia, for a time so long that all had forgotten that either had existed. Spirry was a being from the most ancient past, long before the formation of the empires known to Engelain today, perhaps before the arrival of the gods themselves, if such a time ever did exist.

The atrocity that Spirry had awakened was from a different direction in time- from the future, a far-flung future, a dystopian Armageddon which lurked at the end of time, the literal incarnation of Ragnarok which gnaws upon the edges of reality, seeking purchase, seeking to tear down all that came before it as only a zealous and utterly incomprehensible monstrosity could. The arachnid was a lieutenant, one which had been sent to the past in order to open the future for its true master, to speed up the arrival of the inevitable: of the absolute end.

The two conversed by telepathic means, perhaps not even in any known language but that of the telepath, but there was an understanding between the two. Spirry had pledged his allegiance to the cause, had served his purpose splendidly and was willing to seek a higher purpose still. Between the two of them, both colossal in terms of sheer magical potential, the world would be wrought asunder...

"
We must ascend to the surface, and begin our cleansing. We shall rewrought the world in Our chosen image, and all shall fall before Our might.
" With this declaration the creature lurched forwards, earth shaking as its lumbering form advanced. Its legs came crashing into the tunnel which Spirry had descended from, and then like a wisp of smoke the arachnid's body began pumping up the confined space, the enormously large squeezing into the absurdly small, a demented eel seeking the light before it would extinguish that light forever...

Judy said," I will take first watch. I am not sleepy." She placed her self to watch around so everyone else to go to sleep in safely.

Annie felt very confused but said to Etheldredda,"I know you don't trust him but I need a Magic teacher."

She looked at Tempora Sage," Nice to meet you. I will be honored you to become my teacher."

Hamstead

Etheldredda gave Judy a solitary nod. The two had barely ever conversed, but they had entered into Messia together and both came out alive, so Etheldredda knew that the girl could hold her own- and more importantly, that the hagspawn could trust her.

"You do what needs to be done," is all Etheldredda could offer Annie in advice. Etheldredda was against magic on principle, but the bond she shared with Annie was more than enough to override that initial distrust. Etheldredda was a warrior who lusted for battle, and had fallen under the tutelage of the great battlemaster Br'na** Even'star. She supposed it made sense that Annie, whose magical ability outshone anyone else the hagspawn had ever known, would equally be taught by a magician of great renown.

Tempora Sage nodded solemnly at Annie's agreement. "Then tomorrow, we start," he said, before lowering himself back into his seat, becoming as still as the tree-bark his face appeared to have been carved out of, so ancient and lined and rigid, as he attempted to find himself sleeping.

As the adventurer's found themselves beds or chairs, pulled out sleeping equipment or else used the floor as their allies, dusk turned to night and soon all found themselves resting peacefully- save only for Judy, who was taking first watch and remained the only adventurer awake.

Now is the time,
a voice whispered to Judy through the ethereal, the voice that she had contacted first back in Porkstead, before they had ever set out on their journey.
Begin drawing a pentagram around Kuro...
