As for the latter, nobody seemed to be concerned about his demonic forms. He seemed to have control over it, and had not used it to harm any of them, and as such she was inclined to believe that he was going to act in the interest of the group. While part of her still wanted to distrust him simply because of how much demonic ability he had, she knew that was not right. He wasn’t a full demon, and he had fought to defend them. That was enough to let her know that he was on their side.

Deciding to go with her instincts and remain away from Etheldredda for now, Siera walked slowly over to the troll’s remains, taking the harp off her belt as she did so and beginning to run her fingers across the strings. Notes fell off it, creating a waterfall of sound that could almost be seen by those with magical sensitivity. It had no defined melody, instead just filling the air around her with harmonious sound.

In the time that she hoped it would take the hagspawn to be a little less scary, Siera decided to investigate the piles of skin. She wasn’t sure what she was looking for, but what she was trying to pick up on was something that would either tell her what it had been or who had been involved in creating it. The unfortunate thing was that she wasn’t very familiar with the discordant sounds of the world, and only those that she had come across before would be able to be recognized. Very few magical constructs had a stamp on them that indicated what they were and who they belonged to, so anything she could find would be helpful. Even a note that she did**t recognize would be something she could use as a comparison at a later date.

As she played, Robnoxious took his own time sniffing the pile of skin. At first, he had remained next to Siera, looking up at her inquisitively, but when it became clear that she was interested in the remains he had taken it upon himself to investigate as well.

It was a pity that neither of them could directly relay anything they found to the leader of their group, but that was a struggle they could overcome if they actually found something.

The High Road

Being fully aware of the assassin*s eyes on her for a while now, Kira had said nothing but had taken small motions to make sure he was getting the best view he could. She loved getting those kinds of looks; it was why she had gone to such lengths to obtain the form she had, after all. Men - and some women - were so much easier to manipulate when faced with something like what she had, and such manipulation was what made the time when she wasn’t burning people to the ground fun.

When Soahc made it obvious to everyone else that the assassin was staring, the pyromistress grinned widely, turning and giving Sileo a seductive wink before returning her attention to the demigod himself. He hadn’t given any real answer to her question, which was disappointing because it meant she couldn’t have fun with either of them - the boy in particular, since he looked young enough to have little experience. Brodus’ assessment was, as Soahc put it, “close to the mark”, but that could be seen with just a cursory glance. Unfortunately, it looked as though he wasn’t going to reveal anymore, meaning she’d just have to find it out on her own.

I’d be surprised if you did*’t get that feeling.
she commented, leaving the wagon and rejoining the main group. “
There’s quite a bit of me that’s been changed by demonic agreements. You should know me better than to think I’ll actually tell you what they are, but I bet you’re smart enough to guess a few for yourself.

As if to give a hint, a few streams of fire ran down her arms, coming to a small burn at the end of her pointer finger.

She raised it up to her cheekbone and trailed it down to her chin, illuminating the lower half of her face, before making the motion of blowing it out and making it puff into smoke.

Demons are actually quite agreeable, if you can give them something they want.
” she added, sounding almost a bit wistful. There hadn’t been a deal that she had made in awhile, not since the last agreement had gone somewhat amiss. “
Maybe their prices are a bit high for those with a troublesome case of morals, but I’ve never found them to be all that bad. Some were even fun to pay. It** when they try to change the agreement on you that it’s bad, but not too many try.

She fell silent as the hag came back and started complaining, not bothering to suppress a shudder at the creature’s hideousness. It was an involuntary reaction every time one of them came near her, and she was just glad that she would never look like that. That had been one of her deals, and the way she looked told her that it had been completely worth it.

*
I*d rather burn the hags.
” she told Soahc conversationally, even though she said it right when Ethyl was right there. The hags did*’t concern her. “
Burning undead is boring.

Brodus

Brodus actually nodded in agreement when Kira complained about burning undead being boring. "They don't give out any energy either." He said to her, tapping the hilt of his sword which was sheathed on his back again. "I never told any of you how I got this thing did I?" He asked, although he did not go on to elaborate further. Instead he shifted the discussion back to demons.

"I actually don't know why I haven't considered making a deal with a demon before." He admitted. Although the truth was that he did know - every time he was going to contact a demon his sword gave off some seriously bad vibe, as if it was giving him a warning. And he always felt compelled to heed it.

"Don't we?" Ubaid asked mildly, remembering full well the sword's hunger as it bit into him, "Most reassuring."

There hadn't been any point in denying Soahc's assumptions, because resurrecting the fallen was exactly what Ubaid had planned. It was what he was here for; if he remembered their original agreement properly, he would provide Soahc a renewable source of chaff to keep the Forces of Light occupied, and breath new life into his lieutenants should they fall in battle, and in exchange he was free to pursue his experiments with the leftovers. Fahra remembered well what the hapless cult leader looked like, and with his bird circling above them the man's corpse would hopefully be found in short order. If not, the ghoul had her work cut out for her, searching street to street and house to house in search of her master's prize.

He doubted Molloran would be returned to the fold, for Soahc seemed hell-bent on acquiring a more suitable replacement. His hands, clasped before him, flexed in anticipation.

"Have no fear, Flames and Fates," he bowed a little towards the two of them, "I am but a servant. I house shadows in the flesh of the masses, and make them an extension of your will. If their destruction would bore you, I shall give you no cause to burn them. Besides," his mask glided about to face Soahc, "Deposition is too prosaic."

He stepped back, draping a hand on the gem of his sword while the purple glow seeped out from between his fingers. While Ahrim's attention never wavered from the wretch Soahc toyed with, acting as his master's eyes, the ghost turned away and addressed Ethyl directly. "The corpses will be recovered," he assured her, as in the distance a glob of zombies detached themselves from the group to act as a macabre baggage train, "We may discuss the manner of their return at your leisure."

Farmlands - Zed

Zed cleared his throat and spit off the side of the bridge as Etheldredda and Joric returned from stomping the remaining bandits. Their leader was clearly angry at their performance, Zed figured he shouldn't have run off like that, but meh. He didn't think it made much of a difference

Etheldredda turned to him, expecting him to be able to heal Kuro. Well, he couldn't. Fortunately Annie came over to do just that. "We can still tie him to his horse, right?" He asked as he began to restart his sensory spell.

----

The High Road - Sileo

Under his hood, Sileo smiled when Kira gave him a tempting wink. If Soahc ended up destroying the world, perhaps the assassin could at least burn with the fond memory of bedding her.

His expression going cold again, he turned back to Soahc, who stated that he and Brodus would be useful for discretion in the next phase of his plot. "More target practice? Good." He said quietly, casting an amused glance at Raspur.

----

The Road North - Henry

"Above our pay grade?" Henry winced at Karstone's remark. Slaying vicious demons was exactly the type of thing adventurers did, wasn't it? Perhaps men really were softer here up north.

The grotesque newborn demon traded vicious blows with Mugwo before being thrown off and halting his attack for now. The demon was violent, but seemed to realize it had no true reason for attacking them. He suggested that he possess one of them, and Henry hoped none of them would accept.

When the demon suggested they go their separate ways, Henry loosened his sword arm. "Uh, that sounds like a good idea. ****** off please."

" ****** off?! "

Sir Charles' eyes had nearly bulged out of their sockets when Karstone announced that they meant this monster no harm. His charge upon the demon arrested before it began, his face reddened in outrage even as he figured out what the plan was, to bait it into a false sense of security so they could kill it easier. He wasn't sure how long he could stomach it, but Karstone hadn't let him down so far. And so, he bit his tongue as they made their play, and their foe made the worst sales pitch in history. Bile rose in his throat with every drop of the horror's blood, and he swallowed against the dryness in his mouth. It just needed to step a little closer, he told himself. Or for someone to disable its bloody wings already!

He didn't know how Alicia had managed to get where she was, the teleporting minx, but she had a crossbow and right now that was all that mattered. Sadly they all seemed to be working on different wavelengths, and with every suggestion that they should just let it go away his jaw dropped further, trying to form a coherent sentence in light of a world gone mad and failing miserably. In the midst of his apoplectic fit, the knight found enough presence of mind to shoot daggers at Mr. Greatjon.

Sir Henry's last comment, however well-meaning, proved enough to burst Charlie's red bubble. His chest spasming like a violent hiccup, Sir Charles' longsword aimed unwaveringly at Spirry, fingers bone-white about the hilt as he threw caution to the winds. "It offers torture and makes pain its fetish, and you're happy for it to just flap aw oh no."

The non-sequitur came from Charles glancing towards the distant thunder, into the horizon and the speeding eyes of five angry ogres, the fit he was fighting choking off in shock. The furious colour suddenly drained from his face, and his Adam's apple bobbed as he belatedly realised that today wouldn't have a happy ending, no matter what they did.

"Shoot it!"

The Road North

Were men softer up north? Well, even the bravest are frightened by sudden scares, but Karstone must have had some experience with demons, and may have a feeling that this one was, well, an interesting specimen worthy of caution. After all, the Newborn was a sadomasochistic freak, who relishes in suffering, both in receiving and inflicting; probably not a good sign. But Spirry did not catch Henry's comment, but it seemed to suggest going separate ways, understandably.

As for Charles, well, his eyes almost jumped out of their sockets, and Spirry could have needed them if they did. The knight remarked about Spirry's dark, twisted psychology, and the demon wondered why anyone would ever question it. What was the matter? He shouted to Alicia to shoot the demon.

“Do you fear pain, Charles? I embrace it, and I fear none of you can, but I tried to share my dreams.” Spirry replied to the knight and his compatriots, the demon clasping his hands in front of himself.

In the distance, five young, but nevertheless dangerous, Ogres ran towards the scene. The small group of adventurers who ventured when Spirry first appeared, however, were nowhere to be seen, yet.

Mugwo seemed to have turned around briefly and gestured to them in some Ogre-like manner, perhaps signalling them to be careful or to charge, who knows? Spirry seemed oblivious to Alicia and the five young Ogres. Now would be a good chance for a surprise attack; Newborn was blind, after all.

(( Since the five young Ogres are part of my introduction, as well as the small group of nameless adventurers, I offer permission for anyone to do anything they want to the young Ogres and the adventurers during occurring RPing ))

The Farmlands

The battle was over more quickly than Conleth had expected; however, there was not time to dwell on the matter. It wasn’t like he could complain, anyway. After looking quickly at the pile of skin that was once the troll, and remembering the way one of the fighters had slaughtered their opponents, he quickly turned around and was violently sick over the edge of the bridge.

Although, he did take a few seconds to observe these strangers. They certainly seemed like a strange group, and he had a nagging suspicion they were not all just humans and dwarves. A warrior woman whose face was concealed by an iron mask, who seemed to be their leader, then approached him. The grotesque visage was made even more horrifying by the various bits of people stuck on it. Conleth struggled not to gag. What was she saying? Oh, she was demanding he explain himself.

Well, that made sense. After all, he had sort of come out of nowhere, plus there was the blunder with the troll and the brigands.

*I did*’t mean any harm!” he began, holding his hands up defensively, “Believe me or not, but I’m sort of lost. Well, very lost. See, I was investigating this forest near a town, which had been overrun by some menace…and, we all got split up by some witch’s spell or something alike. I found myself in the middle of nowhere, and now I’m stuck in a completely different land. Oh, and my name’s Conleth.” The kite then picked the most inconvenient time to land on its owner’s shoulder.

Etheldredda's frown was hidden behind her metallic mask, yet it was present all the same. She listened to what Rovaan was saying, about how convenient it was that they were delayed, as though it was a set up... Etheldredda didn't like that one bit. She didn't imagine the hags had influence this far out from the forest, or knew what she was planning, but still... Were they being purposefully distracted? And if so, by who?

Rovaan's transformation had been monstrous, and now he was covered in gory remains, yet this didn't seem to deter Etheldredda half as much as she expected it to. She almost saw herself in the man; they both were prone to falling into a bloodthirsty trance, though it seemed Rovaan's trance had more physical implications as well as mental. Still, the man was full of surprises, and Etheldredda was eager to see more.

"Siera, I want you on point," she decided all of the sudden, turning towards the harpist. Etheldredda could sense the tension between them, brought about by the spell that Siera had cast. Helpful or not, Etheldredda loathed magic. She was willing to tolerate it in the group, seeing no better alternative at defeating the Great Mother, but she could not accept it being used on herself.

"Your hound should sniff out anything else lurking in the bushes." The hound was currently sniffing at the pile of skin that Siera was literally harping over, the two of them trying to figure out its meaning. The skin was new, perhaps a few months old, and had seemingly been attached to the being that flew from the troll's mouth- it had simply decided to ditch its outer layer to escape. But there was a sense that this thing wasn't born, but instead created, by something far more ancient.

There was something that Siera would find familiar here, something reminiscent of a song she'd heard before, a snippet, a sound bite. Somehow, this thing, whatever it was, was related to the song of the world.
