Her masterwork was not yet prepared for battle, but the time would come when the work she was putting into it would be rewarded.

The elementals were not her only preparation, however. She also set up two runic rows under the grass - making it very obvious to everyone around what she was doing, although she did*’t say anything about it - about a thousand feet ahead of where they were and three hundred feet apart from each other, which were around a few hundred feet long themselves and would burst upward in a wall of flame when anyone crossed them. The lines were located behind where the demon was spewing his blood, so the centaurs would end up in the fire traps with even less of an idea of what was happening. They were already not attempting diplomacy, so she had no issue with setting a trap that might go off before true intentions were actually clear.

The trap set and elementals summoned, Kira crossed her arms and waited, eyes set on where her traps would go off. It never got old to watch enemies run through such things.

Betrayal

This was bad. Very bad, to put it mildly. Apart from the fact that the demon seemed to care not at all about the fact that it had gotten attacked, it also had the strength to make all of their efforts null. In the time it took her to reload and fire another shot, it had already started a killing spree, and the way it fought was that of something that did not have control over itself. It was blind rage, a berserk state, and even without its seeming immunity to pain it was likely the demon would have felt nothing now anyways.

If Tyrrus had chosen to answer her prayer, then he must have done so in a twisted manner, for what happened next was as far from granting strength as it could possibly be.

Martha came in, sword raised high, about to strike a decisive blow, and Kat wasn’t able to do anything - for she did not fully realize what Alania was doing until it was too late to move - as the sword came up, deflecting what should have been a strike to win the day.

As Alania’s foot came up, knocking the Decan back, anger started to build in the Huntress’ mind. She had stood up for this woman, tried to defend her, tried to make it seem as though she could be trusted, and Alania had thrown it all away and signed their death warrants. The demon had been more than enough, and with someone else on his side there was no way to win this day.

That feeling was multiplied when Henry took the moment to charge her hiding spot - a place where she had been extracting herself from, or at least about to - and forced her into accepting the knowledge that there was to be no victory this day. On anyone else, the distraction may have worked, but although Kat was not the strongest in straight combat she was unparalleled - except by those with heinous magical assistance - in her ability to sense and react. As Henry came flying down, she rolled to the left side, coming up onto her feet as he crashed down.

As she rolled, she grabbed her spear, and so it was in her hand as she rose. She did not move to strike, however, not now, because although it was likely she could kill or at least injure Henry it was possible that such an action would trigger results she did not want to deal with. Specifically, reactions from the demon. With around half of the force dead and multiple reinforcements to the demon’s ranks, death was the only thing she was going to gain by making rash moves.

Henry’s original plan did work, though; she did*’t get to reload the weapon when she wanted to, the bullet that had been in her fingers falling to the ground when she rolled to the side and grabbed her spear with that hand.

While Henry fought his way through the bush, Kat attempted to move forward and grab Martha, trying to help the Decan regain her feet. It may be a loss, but she did not want anyone else to die if that was already guaranteed to be the case. Maybe they could win this fight later, but she was already sure that it would not be a fight that she could win all alone.

That’s not the issue, you idiot!
” she shouted as she did what she could to help the Decan - with the hope that Henry wouldn’t keep trying to attack, although she kept alert for him anyways. “
Look at the forest! Look what he did to it! LISTEN TO HIM, FOR TYRRUS’ SAKE! He is fully connected to his second half, and that half IS WORKING WITH SOAHC! HE IS KILLING THIS WORLD, AND YOU’RE HELPING!

Her eyes were blazing with fury at this point, fury and a wildness that hadn’t been present for quite a while. The part of her mind that wanted to stay alive was holding her in check, stopping her from reloading and shooting Alania while damning the consequences, and so she could only scream across the clearing at the person that had fully betrayed everything that Kat had tried to do.

Spirry

What a surprise indeed for Kat, especially when Henry seemed to be on Alania's side. After evading Henry, Kat vented her frustration while helping Martha.

“You are wrong, girl.” Spirry barked to Kat. “My other self is not for me, but he wants to kill me. He does not work with Soahc completely, only wants to lead him to his demise, and then search for a well of magic, which he thinks is called a Godsforge. Eventually, the Eight-Legged One will rise, as smoke from the depths, to end the gods, and bring a world of shadow. Only then, when I can summon my sorcery from the darkness and shadows, will I be able to stand a chance against my past, who wants to become my future. You can't pick between good or evil in this world; but you can pick between chaos or annihilation.”

Spirry looked at Kat, and if she looked back, Spirry would gesture with his head regarding the fallen soldiers. Those he had killed were regenerating, even if they were dead, their wounds started to heal close. Should all go well, the dead would come back to life, albeit feeling quite uncomfortable.

“I am not killing this world, I am giving it life! Why can't you understand? When you eat my flesh, and drink my blood, you will have everlasting life. The flesh can feed the hungry, the blood can sate the thirsty. Eventually, you will become like it: flesh of never-ending regeneration. Then you may grow yourself however you want, or spawn as beings in your likeness.” He continued, calming down, and relaxed a little.

Some eyeballs dangling on the ends of meaty stalks stretched down from the branches, going into hook-shapes, and looked around as hearts beat, lungs pumped, and tendons slithered. From a mound of flesh, something emerged: a meaty skeleton, like that of a tiny human, with a rat-like skull. The tiny creature was face-down and lifted its head up, mouth open, blood drooling, meaty skull twitching, and it was given the breath of life, and made its first breath.

After an audible exhale, the being screamed like a crying baby with a tremendous voice, which echoed through the fleshy forest. A few other beings appeared, resembling skinned, fleshy, bleeding animals with animalistic skulls, who pushed themselves off the ground, as if pieces of a jigsaw puzzle made from flesh.

Veins ripping out of the ground, the beings emerging from the patches of flesh-ground began breathing, cracking their jaws, and clawing at the ground while huffing or groaning with high-pitched voices. Their squirming made squishy noises, and most began eating of the softer masses of flesh or organs near them. Since they were quite small, no more than two feet long, they were probably the equivalent of babies. Another one emerged behind Martha and Kat and began screeching between breaths, its hands twitching as its fingers, one by one, shot out its hands, bones and tendons wiggling.

“I am a Newborn, but now, I have grown up. See the other Newborns? They are like you: lost, blind, confused, afraid, vulnerable...” Spirry said, standing upright, wings and limbs loose.

Then some sort of man-sized fleshy skeleton consisting of just a spinal cord twenty feet long, an elongated skull on one end, and a pair of long thin arms appeared, crawling along a normal tree horizontally, its spine curling around the trunk, and the creature began making high-pitched gargling noises while knocking its bony fingers repeatedly against the bark. Spirry slowly tilted his head, and licked his teeth.

''Come forth in peace. The newborn children; these children born not from wombs... They are waiting for you .”

The Necromancer

Stalking through the camp, gazing through the eyes of his rotting servants, Ubaid paid just enough heed to his own body to grab a Soahc devotee by the face and cast him out of the way. The work would be by no means complete by the time the centaurs were upon them, but given the response of his compatriots he saw no reason to let that delay him. He even doubted that he would have to lift a finger in the ensuing battle, for between the ironwrought apparition, the Knight of Souls and the Pyromistress their equine adversaries had plenty to contend with. All he would have to do was weather the attack, keep a low profile and secure their corpses for his own designs.

Zombies were detestable servants, but for all their faults and inelegance they were difficult to destroy. He could feel the hunger of his Twins, their insatiable lust for fresh, living flesh to empower themselves on, and bid them patience. They would have the feast they craved soon enough.

Indulging himself, the shade paused, turning to watch the first volley of spectral arrows arc into the sky. "Their enthusiasm is boundless," he remarked; his fingers brushed against the purple pommel of his sword, the gem glowed, and buried deep in the formation guarding his sarcophagus the Bearers dropped to their knees and began to cut a scrying spell into the turf. If the centaurs had any wizards amongst their number, Ubaid would mark them out. Let the rest of the cavalry do as much damage as they wished, for every death would strengthen him.

Still, Soahc would be expecting at least a token show of solidarity. "Would you not agree, able Cain?" he asked, his gaze flickering to the sellsword captain who had been dogging his steps. "I confess, I do not wholly understand. The pursuit of pleasure fades with the flesh, until all that is left is progress towards one's goals." He shrugged, and decided to speak a little less obtusely before Raspur assaulted him. "They will take their time."
All seeing. All knowing. All scumbag.

"Too much time."

He nodded towards the mercenary's pocket, and gestured for him to follow as he continued his trek towards the undead host. "The magics of death are inimical to the mortal world. Maintaining control over energies which would end everything they touch is difficult, particularly when I am not trying to return to the underworld."

Bearing in mind who he was talking to, and how little Raspur would care about arcane intricacies, Ubaid revised the not-quite truthful explanation and cut to the heart of the matter. "Your crystal would grant me a focal point, neither living nor dead, and one of particularly fine quality. Doors would open which are currently closed, this distraction could be channeled towards a higher purpose, and we move faster towards our goal." He held out his hand. "May I?"
All seeing. All knowing. All scumbag.

On the Road

Accepting the handkerchief with a thankful nod, Siera used it to wipe her eyes, removing the tears that had come unbidden to her. It was strange to her to think that, after not opening up to anyone in a long while, she could do so to a stranger that she had just met. Perhaps it was simply because of her ability to hear the melody of others, but she felt comfortable trusting this dwarf with her story. Even without her music telling her that he did not intend any harm, she could tell that he was different from most people she had met.

At first, she debated not continuing the conversation and telling him that she did*’* want to involve anyone else, but she found that she couldn’t. Unlike the group she had just left, he did not have a task to complete, and she found that she did not wish to be alone in this. If she was, there was nobody to make her see reason or help her if she fell. Besides, she had yet to tell him who she was seeking, and Siera would not be surprised if Thorek changed his mind once she said the name.

First, though, she answered his last request.

Cadmus
His name is Cadmus Solar

Pausing for a moment to consider how best to phrase the next part, since while she did have a pretty sure guess as to who was responsible it wasn’t a certainty, Siera decided to just tell him what she did know. Even if the demigod of Chaos was not actually responsible, he was the one she was looking for.

I don’t know who is responsible
I’m going to the mountains to look for Soah*
He knows where even if he did*’t do it

Etheldredda could feel the dwarf at her back as her cousins began to swam the two of them. Her scimitar glanced left and right, powered by savagery, cutting a bloody picture through their ranks. Embedding the weapon into a bony wisp of a woman, turning, then pushing the emerging blade into another, Etheldredda had to concede the weapon lost and retrieved her spiked mace instead, her dagger in her off-hand.

She could see the spiders coming, rampaging forwards. Etheldredda could not tell if they were meant to be trapped, or if this was a power-play by the Great Mother. Hags were treacherous, they were power-hungry, they were devious. A Hagfather summoning was the perfect time to betray your mother and reap the rewards of what she had summoned. Perhaps the Great Mother was showing her strength- that she could take on a full assault whilst preoccupied with a summoning and at her most vulnerable when it came to her children, daring them to test her might, to call her bluff. But if this was actually the machinations of something more sinister...

Etheldredda stabbed out with her mace, peppering the gut of an attacker with holes, booted a second out of the way, shoulder-barged a third and swung her mace into the face of a fourth- the spikes splattering an eye, tearing through a cheek, the iron ball at the centre crashing the skull and sending the body flying. But she had succeeded in her task- she had created an opening, a brief opening.

"Go!" She shouted at Joric, gesturing for him to take the chance and break free from the hagspawn ranks, to enter the centre of the coven where the hags themselves were weaving their spells. Without a second glance, Etheldredda was amongst the hagspawn again, delaying them, giving the dwarf time to make his move.

The roar of Rovaan was all the warning the other hagspawns were given before the blood titan was among them, swinging his accursed blade from side to side, as fearsome as death itself.

But the hagspawn did not fear death- on the contrary, they longed for it. Death meant freedom from the servitude of their hag masters. The concept of running, of saving themselves, meant nothing- for if they were to run, then the hags would know, and the price they would have to pay would be unbearable. They were loyal warriors, and so they went forth to meet the wrath that was Rovaan, and fell before his powerful swings.

The cloaked figure beside the Great Mother watched Rovaan's demonic approach and raised her arms once more, chanting. Snarls and howls signalled the approach of a red tide as the hag-bred direfoxes burst from the undergrowth. They were as tall as greyhounds and just as skeletal, their tails following behind them like capes, spines emerging from their backs, a manic look in their eyes. They charged out, encircling the hags, interweaving with each other and forming a blurred mass of defence. The heroes would have to wade their way through this sea of bloodthirsty turmoil if they were to succeed in attacking the hags.

In the same moment, Annie's vines were ensnaring the hagspawn which guarded the slave pits, tugging them off of their feet, pulling limbs together so they would be unusable, binding mouths so they could not shout. A hailstorm of rocks fell onto them, knocking them unconscious, and with them defeated Annie the Abolisher could live up to her namesake. Hacking at the wooden slacks which marked the ceiling of the pits, Annie began to lead out the slaves.

They were fearful, and rightfully so. The hags had violated them, experimented on them, had carted some off to be cut open piece by piece and discover the inner workings of the body. And they had played mind games on them, too. Some of them had been locked in these pits for years, some for decades. The elves and dwarves that were captive... Who could say how long they had been the playthings of the hags?
