The Leprechaun's Foot

"I've been busy trying not to bleed all over my carpet." A young voice responded to Joric's inquiry. A youth in dark blue robes, clearly a mage, was leaning against the wall of the inn, reading a newspaper and clutching in front of him in an ever so subtle way to cover his face. Its front page was titled: "Famous nobleman, now a famous noblewoman." He lowered the paper, revealing a sly, pale face and dark red eyes.

"And all the guys from my book club are dead, so... My schedule's been pretty empty lately." Zedicus Spector mused as he started folding up the paper into a large origami rabbit. After he was turned into a pincushion by the Hamstead army, Rovaan and that woman had gotten him to a healer, and he spent most of the time afterwards laying in bed reading books salvaged from the ruins of the Mages Guild. He had picked up a number of new spells from them, but had no time to practice any. He had only just been cleared to leave this morning.

The albino mage stepped towards the table to join this Champions Guild reunion. He had gotten a new set of robes, keeping the same navy blue color as his old ones, but with a lighter cobalt trim around his neck. They were less loose and flowing than his old garb, better for traveling and for combat than for creeping around a library. He also had a hood, good for concealing his bizarre appearance. Lastly, he now had a wand tied to his belt, ten inches of polished mahogany.

He tossed the origami rabbit onto the Guildmaster's table, and it sprang to life and began hopping about eagerly. "Whatever this journey entails, I'll be up for it. The whole 'adventuring' life seems like something I'd like to try." Even when the Mages Guild still stood, Zed was bored of his station. A chance to leave this dreary tract of dirt where the only excitement was the massacre of a town by an Elder demon appealed to him, though he wasn't keen on his traveling companions. The actual Champions Guild members he didn't mind; Siera was an oddity but her magic was fascination, Joric was a competent warrior though his pun skills were something to be desired, the only exception was the Guildmaster himself, who was utterly useless during Azul's attack. But the others, the girl Annie who went on and on about her demigodliness, and that idiot Kuro, he wasn't excited to accompany. Rovaan was a cryptic fellow, but he had saved Zed's life, so he was thankful for that at least. As for that masked woman, well, she was the only one he would need to keep an eye on.

Sileo watched the screaming barman with disappointment. He was genuinely looking forward to that muffin.

"This wouldn't be my first job interview of the day." Sileo turned to face his competition, an armored (former) knight with an impressive sword and a dark robed mage of some kind. "As long as the pay's worth it, I'll play along." Sileo accepted Soahc's challenge and stood to his feet. "And from the looks of outside, I get the feeling money is no object for you."

The Plucky Hecatonchire

Swiveling around like an empty merry-go-round, the feeble wooden stool turned as it was pressured by Mariuk's gloved hands. The pitiful creaks rung out like demonic carnival music or the giggles of demonic children - definitely something demonic. Anyway, now that he was facing the speaker, The Avian's turquoise eyes shone under the darkness of the hood, his breather the only other visible portion of his face. Unaccustomed with the light blue metal that she wore, Mariuk gave her a good look up and down, before focusing on the friendly smile upon her face. He hadn't really been listening. Mariuk had the nasty habit. He tended to lose focus a little too often. Luckily he had picked up on that one word. 'Ogre's'.

"Yeah those Ogre's sure are nasty fellows?" Mariuk spoke questioningly, unsure of whether his comment made any actual sense.
'I should probably just ask.'
It would save him a lot of trouble. He hesitated, his hands tensing and slightly releasing on the wood he clung to. Finally:

"To be honest I'm not really sure what you said. That armor of yours distracted me. I've never seen the like? Is it elven? Or dwarven? Hmm. It's got quite a unique style."

--------------------

The bartender, rubbing a mug indignantly in response to the rather rude interruption of Alania, stepped away from the two, muttering under his breath as he so often did. At a very heated point in his internal - yet clearly auditory - argument, a woman approached him.

'Food. Gossip. Directions. That's all them adventurers ever want. Don't never bother to ask my name. Care about my interests. Why don't they ask - "Rubio, do you take up any hobbies" and den I would respond like "Why yes I do. I've been playing the lute since I was a wee lad. Nah! They just want a warm hunk of mutton and some quests to go off on.'

Turning around in his spot the bartender reached into a jar behind him. "The Lord's men came earlier, put this up."

The bartender handed over a torn piece of parchment with a horrendous childish depiction of a satyr. "You can get five 'ol gold coins if you'se brave enough."

Rubio - the bartender not that anyone cares about his name - pointed up at a sign hanging above his head. "If youse can read that's the menu. I can't attest to its accuracy. My beautiful daughter made it for me 'fore she went off to marry that no good adventurer. They're all bloody good for nothins. Present company excluded." Flashing a set of nasty wooden teeth, coated in sinews of meet and wilting vegetables, Rubio continued dirtying the mug in his hand. "If you can't read, we've got mutton and beer. Exclusively."

Now the bartender leaned in closer to Alicia, the overwhelming potency of his breath leaking out into the rogue's face. Tuning his tone to a whisper, he said "If you'se looking for directions, those folks are travelling north. Off to battle Ogres, oi fink. Terrible creatures of the like, no hygiene!'" The bartender motioned his head towards Mariuk and Alania. "And that two-hammered man has been hanging around for a little bit. He might know of the region or any gossip." The bartender motioned towards Karstone, who looked rather preoccupied. "That's as much as I can help I'm 'fraid."

The Leprechaun's Foot

Siera didn't try to hide her disappointment when it became clear that the hagspawn could not read, her shoulders slumping and a silent sigh accompanying the dropping of her gaze to the floor. It was understandable, and she knew she had gotten extremely lucky in the past when it came to people being able to read. It meant that she had no way of communicating with Etheldredda besides gestures - unless someone else was translating for her - but that was better than nothing.

Besides, the hagspawn did recognize her, and from the way she was acting it seemed that the request for accompaniment was closer to respect than most people would ever get from her. Even if she had not included the part about there being an old ally of the Dread Lord causing problems here - which immediately made Siera wonder if there was something going on involving that creature - the request would have been enough to get the musician going. Few people had ever requested that she join them in anything and nearly the entire group was people she recognized and knew to be morally good, so there was no reason for her to refuse. The hagspawn was right, too; that world could not happen again.

It was somewhat amusing to see the Guildmaster's attempts at saying anything, although she did feel somewhat sorry for him. It was clear that he didn't want to be here by just what he was saying, and the attempted escape just made it that much clearer. Still, she could see why the hagspawn might have made him be part of this. She didn't have a lot of charisma, and when recruiting a group of people that was more important than anything else. Few people wanted to work with someone that did not give a good impression, and although Siera knew that Etheldredda was someone who fought for the right side that wasn't common knowledge. The Dread Lord didn't exist anymore, after all, and all of his history had died with him.

To everyone that greeted her, she gave a small wave and a nod. Annie she knew in the same way as Etheldredda, the young girl having disappeared when the Dread Lord past had been reverted and only showing up for a small period of time recently. Her fight was more personal, though, a fight that Siera knew she might be fighting too. Unlike Cadmus, Annie had seen who had taken Abraxus, giving her an actual target. Although Siera could suspect that Soahc was involved in Cadmus' disappearance as well, she had no proof and was not going to jump to the conclusion. It might make it easier, and she needed to find Soahc regardless, but condemning him for a crime she had no proof for wasn't something she could justify doing.

As for Kuro, she knew him a bit better. He was probably the only person from the entire Copperdale situation that she had actually spoken to, and although that had not included anything outside of the job they were doing it had still been something. While he was partly demonic, his actions - the ones she had been witness to, at least - spoke for his nature, and that nature was not one that furthered demonkind.

Everyone else she was only somewhat familiar with. Although she and Joric had both been Champion's Guild members, she had involved herself in none of the Guild affairs until Azul and therefore had not had any real interaction with him. The only time they had ever been in the same area of action had been the final battle with the army, and that had ended badly so she tried not to let it reflect on her opinion of him because she knew he wasn't a bad person. Zed she knew even less of, knowing only that he was part of the Mage's Guild and had played a role in the battle with Hamstead Army. Rovaan she was entirely unfamiliar with, having seen or heard nothing of him yet.

With another nod to Etheldredda, the musician retrieved her notebook, wrote the single line, "
I'm going.
" and showed it to Guildmaster Federico. That was all the confirmation he should need, which was good becasue she wasn't going to be writing much more. It took too much time to write much out; she had learned that a while ago. Shorter phrases and less words were less effective in communicating most messages, but they helped to keep the other person from walking away out of boredom.

To Joric and his question, she offered a shrug to indicate not much at all. It was true, really, she had simply been living since then. In a way, that was harder than actually doing something when there were multiple holes in the life that was trying to be lived. Whatever was happening here wouldn't mend the holes, but it might offer a temporary patch, and that was enough for the moment.

The trek to the village sapped Desmo of what little energy he had left. Moaning and groaning, he made his way down the streets. Most of the traffic lead to one place, and Desmo thought it would be best to start there. He desperately needed to bandage his arm before infection set it, if it hasn't already. He would die before admitting to it, though. "Pla... Pl... Placky Heca..." stuttered Desmo as he tried to make out the name posted on the sign. He quickly gave up and sat down a few feet from the building. ~If i sit here all lonesome someones bound to come by.~ He thought while twiddling his thumbs.

"Ought to see if i can slay a dragon round here. That'll make me a right hero." He whispered to himself. "I shouldn't hurt that dragon though. Ill just tell him to leave. He ought to know the great Desmo of green hill, and that will send em runnin." Desmo crossed his legs and held out his stump. ~If not for this i would be rulen the world... Id be a fair king. Pa would have thought so.~

Desmo's eyes became heavy and he started to sway back and forth. ~I ought to...~ He slouched back onto the wall of the building. ~Just for a secound...~ His eyes shut, and Desmo fell into deep sleep.

Kuro began to remember the events that took place, when he first met everyone. He remembered how he was, his hatred his need to fight demons was so much more back then. Kuro remembered the encounter with the demon that ate him, remembering feeling weak. Then his thoughts traveled to Azul again and what he almost did...

Kuro put his hand on his head as he gave himself a headache, filled with fear and guilt from what he did after and before Azul died and what he may become if he goes down the path he went down before, going down the path of wanting power, and blood-lust he may lose himself again.

He then said, "I think I could use a drink, some get me some rum, or some Dwarven mead something strong..." Kuro trying to drown out his own thoughts, normally he wouldn't drink when there is a job needing done, but he wanted something to settle his nerves, he was hoping it would help him forget the thoughts running through his head.
and nothing was spoiled :P

Annie saw Kuro the fright on his face as he put his hand on his head. She asked him with a calm voice,"Are you ok? I am so happy you are here and safe." She really cared about him. She already can guess what it could be bugging him but didn't mention it because of him for his safety from the people around her. -Dances-
