"Well, of course," Zharoun rolled his eyes. "Doesn't anyone trust the old man?"

"I can't believe it," Saren said. "At last, the egg can hatch like it is supposed to."

Suddenly, the door burst open. "Commander!" shouted a dwarf.

"What is it?" Veldaban asked.

"We have received a message from Falador, requesting help."

"What's going on?" Saren asked in fear.

"The people of Falador are being attacked. Agaben's army has already met a force of White Knights in a forest in the north, and the forces of Falador were defeated terribly. The dwarves at Ice Mountain have fled here via mine cart. Sir Amik Varze has already told us he expects Falador to fall within the week."

"We have to stop them!" Saren yelled, though they were all only several feet away from him. His panic for the death of his city had taken him far away. "Take us to Ice Mountain."

The dwarf shook his head. "Sorry, mate, but we can't. Agaben's army collapsed the mine cart tunnel that leads there."

"We can't walk there: we don't have time!" Kalda protested.

"You don't have to walk the whole way," Veldaban corrected her. "The tunnel to White Wolf Mountain is intact, I trust?"

The dwarf nodded. "Good," Veldaban continued. "You can take a cart there, walk through Taverley, and you'll be there by nightfall."

Kaisen, Saren, and Kalda rode the mine cart to White Wolf Mountain as Veldaban suggested. Meanwhile, on another area of the continent, in Kandarin, Zavistic Rarve was arguing with another mage.
"Haiphus, I'm telling you, I've made my decision," Zavistic Rarve said bluntly.
"But why?" Haiphus argued. "On the advice of a young mage that hasn't even entered the Guild?"
Zavistic faced him with a stern look. "Young mage? Does that make him any worse than us? Look at yourself, and all the other mages, staying here in the shadow of the Guild, following the same steps as your ancestors. All mages have been the same for decades. Only Kaisen has gone and actually done something. That is why I am closing the Academy for good. This way, our young mages can grow and progress in their own way, and earn recognition in their own right. That is what it means to be a mage."
"You're sure? You know that the students will not be happy."
"Happy or not, they are better off learning the trade for themselves. Only a few books are necessary."
Haiphus sat down his cup of tea and walked toward the door. "Well, I suppose you are right. I must be off. Sedridor is awaiting me in Wizard's Tower. He claims to have made some 'groundbreaking discovery.' I swear, he is full of crazy ideas."
Haiphus left, and before the door was even closed, Jian entered the room. "Master Rarve?" he asked.
"Ah, Jian. Come in, come in." Zavistic Rarve pulled him up a chair. "What is it you want?"
"There's someone with me that wants to talk to you." Jian beckoned to the figure outside, and Zorrath walked into the room.

Zorrath walked into the room, marveling at its brilliance. The floors were tiled with marble tiles, and the room was full of bookshelves holding books of magic lore. In the center of the room was an elegant teak table, at which Zavistic Rarve and Jian sat.
"Do I know you?" asked Rarve. His tone was unreadable. It didn't sound rude, nor was it accomadating.
"No, sir," Zorrath replied, deciding that it was best to speak politely to the mage. "I am Zorrath, of Isafdar."
The Magician's ears perked up. "Isafdar? This wouldn't have anything to do with Kaisen, would it?"
Zorrath nodded. "He is successful. The dragon egg is to be cured."
Rarve's face lit up in astonishment, and he sank into the chair. "I can't believe it. That kid did it. I knew it was a bad idea. I let my age trick me into being condescending to him. Just like all the rest, I didn't believe. I remember when he was my student, couldn't even pull off a good alchemy. Now, he doesn't even need me anymore."
"He still needs you," Zorrath interrupted, trying to get Rarve into a better mood. "He sent me to apologize for the disagreement."
"Him? Apologize? It should be me that apologizes! Why did I insist on him giving up?"
"Sir, he also wanted me to ask if you would come to Falador to help the White Knights defend against Agaben," said Zorrath, getting to the point.
"I'm afraid I cannot do that. What would happen if Kandarin allied itself with Agaben's enemies? If Agaben wins--and that is what is likely to happen--he would come for us next."
"He is likely to do that anyway. After all, when has Agaben ever cared?"
"Good point." Zavistic Rarve thought it over. "I suppose I owe Kaisen."
"Don't you care that lives are at stake?"

"There are always lives at stake in this pointless war between Saradominists and Zamorakans," Rarve replied. "Throughout the centuries, it has always been the same."
"But this dragon might be the key to ending that!"
"Probably not."
"But what if it is?"
Rarve could not argue any farther. He walked across the room and removed some runes from a desk. "I'll go."
"Me, too!" voiced Jian.
"You? You are just a bo...Yes, Jian. You can go."
Rarve walked back to them. "Jian, you can teleport. You, Zorrath, can you?"
"No, sir."
"Fine, fine. I can teleport you. It's a new invention of mine, called a teleother. Step closer."
Zorrath walked near the mage, and Zavistic Rarve zapped him away. Seconds later, Jian and Rarve vanished, leaving an empty room. It's former inhabitants were going to Falador.
