Righto.
Protagonists need to, like their opposite rolls the antagonist(s), have some defining feature about them. It can be their race, birthright, inheritance, weapon, anything. But, since you'll be most likely seeing them much more than any other character, you need to be able to portray the desired personality well.
...
Protagonist-describing is hard. D:
This is what I've got so far:
~*~ Protagonists ~*~
The protagonist of your story is the main character. The star of your story. The prefix ‘Pro-’ means “for”, and a protagonist is the person who is working toward a goal. In other words, the protagonist wants something – usually something essential. Whatever that something is, it is very important to the character. That one something -- the object of desire -- is critical, because it will determine the focus of the story. Your protagonist will almost always be working against an antagonist, which is something or someone who wants to stop the protagonist from getting what he or she wants.
If your antagonist is a person, figuring out who the protagonist and the antagonist are isn’t as easy as who the good guy is and who the bad guy is. A protagonist isn’t always likeable, and a human antagonist can be very alluring. Your protagonist could be a murderer who wants to escape the country more than anything.

A Story of Fantastical Adventure
Or
The Crystals of Life
The buzzing sound of the relic was beginning to get rather monotonous, as Liern thought. To him, there was nothing to do in the little, humid hut but to stare at the vine covered Relic of Carkanaft, a large circular piece of rock covered in moss, lichen, and vines. He had the job to watch the large hunk of ‘sedimentary wonder’ as said by the Council of Kien, the rulers of Aboreum, a city hundreds of meters off of the rainforest floor. Even though in total the job was boring, Liern knew that this job had its perks, such as the Ruuson, or season of hot and cold, when Bahemoths laid waste at such high altitudes. But most of the time, such deadly creatures stayed on the forest floor, not wishing harm to those that did not harm them, or tasted very good.
Liern heard the creaking of the hut’s only door, and saw that is was the next shift, his good friend Gabriil. Liern passed the Halberd of Safety to his friend, giving him the two fingered salute/wave mix that was a customary ‘hello’ gesture to his town. Gabriil was a Pouli, which are humans in almost every single way, except for the fact that they have large wings sprouting from their back, just like they did when they founded Aboreum.
Liern walked through the many wooden platforms, bridges, elevators, and stairs that made up most of the city, in a few minutes reaching his dorm near the top of one of the many housing facilities. He opened the door, seeing the other two owners of the dorm sitting at the table over a yellowed piece of parchment. Liern **lked over, asking “What are you looking at?” In a politely inquisitive way, not really caring much, after walking over.
“Something.” His roommate Korruck said, his large red Pouli wings wrapped around his body, as he was sitting in a chair and needed the room. He pointed to something on the ancient text and looked up at the female Dekorran in front of him, named Taeln. The fur covering her entire body stood up

, not liking what was on the paper.
Taking advantage of the situation, Liern sat in a nearby chair, straining his ears to hear what the two were saying. He heard very little, hearing only things such as ‘Danger’, ‘Deadly’, ‘Traps’, ‘Treasure’, ‘Life’, ‘Death’, and for some odd reason, someone outside shouted randomly “Ice Knivios!” And then a large thump of something hitting wood.
That night, Liern snuck out of the dorm, following Korruck and Taeln. They climbed down to the forest floor, Liern doing the same. The two in front then started to move across the foliage-filled landscape, completely unaware that Liern was following.
Liern ducked behind a fern, wanting to stay completely hidden from view of Korruck and Taeln in the pre-dawn light. Taeln looked back, not seeing Liern but having the feeling that something was following them. Shrugging it off, she turned around and kept on her way, letting Liern breath again.
Soon, they came to an opening in a crack, splitting a once large boulder into two smaller parts. Taeln and Korruck squirmed through, Liern waiting about a minute to follow them. He came into a large and expanding cavern with ruined pillars lining the walls, many mostly stubs, a few a little more than 5 feet high. The ancient and dusty tiling was uneven across the large floor, some places completely gone of anything but dust.
About 50 meters ahead of Liern, Korruck crawled into a hole in the wall, Taeln doing the same after he was in. Liern came up behind them after a minute or so, and crawled through. He walked slightly faster than they did, staying on his toes to stay silent. Both of the two ahead of him had the odd feeling that they were being followed, which, ironically, they were. They almost simultaneously turned around, giving Liern no time to hide.
“Err… Surprise?” He asked, smiling sheepishly. “But, there’s no point in sending me back to Aboreum, because I’d just follow you from where you couldn’t see me again.” He argued, incase they wanted

to send him away.
“Why would we want to do that?” Taeln asked, her voice having a slight purr to it. “Honestly, I think a third person would be better than two.”
Korruck looked at Taeln in disbelief, proclaiming “He can’t come with us! His clumsiness will turn on all of the traps!* It was obvious that Korruck was at least a little vexed.
“As Liern said, its worthless to send him back, mainly because he would just come back or follow us,” Taeln objected “Plus, he isn’t that clumsy.”
Liern poked his head between them, saying “You know, I’m right here.”
Taeln looked at the other two after a few seconds of silence, saying “Seeing as I’ve won this little debate, let’s keep going.” And started to walk forward.
Many steps and trips later, Korruck’s foot seemed to be a few centimeters lower than the floor itself, the group then noticing that they were all caught in the same large, almost cucumber-ish, pickle.* “Well, this is an odd way to end.” Liern said, trying to be optimistic as the floor seemed to pull him down to his likely death. Then, he fell onto a large stone slab, which tilted precariously whenever they stood or moved too quickly.
“Anyone got an idea on how to get out of here?” Korruck asked, completely petrified.
“We could go through that tunnel.” Taeln suggested, nodding to a large hole a meter or so away from one edge of the slab of rock.
Liern and Korruck grunted in agreement to the idea, and the first of the two stood up *lowly, shuffling their way along to the edge of the slab. He jumped and rolled along the ground and air, landing safely, but not quite *oundly. Korruck followed suit, landing slightly more gracefully. Taeln was left on the platform, slowly edging her way to the ledge. Without anything to balance her weight, the other side of the stone lifted, a stick falling from the roof of the stony hall. She jumped into the hole, a rumbling sound coming from where the stick fell. It slowly made its way towards the group, all three getting the idea to ru
