----------Chapter Two: Ael, the Vampiress------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kaisen waded through the murky water of the marshes west of Port Phasmatys. He was completely unsure of where to go next, and so he wandered west, hoping to find someone knowledgeable. His only plan was to go back to Yanille, and maybe Zavistic Rarve could help him.

He cast another fire bolt to warm the dragon. It was alarming how much the dragon needed. He would soon run out of runes to cast the spell. He didn't want to think what would happen after that.

Suddenly, Kaisen looked ahead and saw someone on the path, walking to Port Phasmatys. The man was tall and strong, wearing a suit of full Saradomin armor. He held a long, powerful whip in his hand, ready to kill anything that crossed him.

The man walked on and stopped as he approached Kaisen. "Where are you going?" he asked suspiciously.

"Back to Canifis," Kaisen responded. "What is a follower of Saradomin doing out here in Zamorakan territory?"

The man flicked the whip in position to strike. "I don't like Zamorakans," he spat at Kaisen. "I should strike you down right now."

Kaisen felt shivers in his spine, but not from the opponent's threats. The dragon needed to be heated again.

Kaisen removed the egg from his robe pocket and blasted it with a fire bolt. He recoiled, expecting the man to attack with his whip, but the man only looked on in shock. "Where did you get that egg?" he demanded.

Kaisen decided it was best to tell the truth. "It was given to me by a priestess to keep it safe."

"Give it to me!"

"No!" Kaisen returned the egg into his pocket. "It is my duty to protect it."

"It is my duty. I am a Temple Knight of Falador, and Sir Amik Varze ordered me to collect it from a priestess in Port Phasmatys. Now give it to me before I am forced to kill you."

"No," Kaisen returned defiantly. "Andarra gave it to me, and I will not betray her trust. I will lift the curse."

The man looked puzzled. "What curse?" Kaisen filled him in on the details of the dragon's condition. "Hmmmm," the man thought. "I have a compromise. We will travel together. You will bear the egg, but I will be with you."

Kaisen thought it over. "That's good."

"I don't mind traveling with a weakling."

"Are you calling me weak?"

The man faced him down. "I can call you anything I want. I am Saren, Temple Knight of Saradomin. You wouldn't last three seconds against me. Remember that."

They traveled on in silence until they came to a sign that read: "DANGER Do not come this way into the Haunted Woods. There are dangerous beasts ahead."

Saren walked right past it. "Hey!" Kaisen shouted to him. "Didn't you read the sign?"

"What, don't tell me you're scared? Weakling."

Kaisen glared at him and followed into the Haunted Woods.

The duo traveled on into the dark swamp. The eerie silence heightened their senses, for they expected beasts to attack at any moment. So far, however, the marsh had been peaceful.

"Maybe the sign was overexaggerating," Kaisen said hopefully. Of course, he was wrong.

A beast launched itself out of the shrubbery and attached itself to Kaisen's arm. It was a leech, and Kaisen screamed in terror. Saren lashed out with his whip and struck the leech, which fell to the ground, dead.

"Be more careful," Saren chastised, and then a leech got him on the neck. He growled in pain, but he could not get it with his whip.

Kaisen clenched some runes in his hand and felt the fire bolt come out. The bolt launched across the clearing, but it missed the leech completely, soaring away into the swamp.

"You idiot!" Saren shouted, but then someone came up from behind him and killed the leech with a dagger. Saren and Kaisen looked to see who it was.

A woman stood behind him. She was tall and pale, and she had long, sharp fangs in her mouth. There was no doubt she was a vampire.

Saren reacted, but the vampiress held his arm so he could not move the whip. "Do not strike me, travelers," she commanded. "I mean you no harm. That is why I saved you from the leech. I am Ael, a vampiress who lives here in the Haunted Woods. I put up the sign to warn travelers. Why did you not heed my warning?"

"We could handle it," Kaisen mocked Saren.

"Shut up," Saren replied bitterly.

"Come to my place of residence," Ael urged. "There we will be safe from the wild beasts here."

Ael led Saren and Kaisen to a shack in the middle of the swamp. It was derelict and looked like humans hadn't inhabited it for quite some time.

"This is an ancient home from the days when Zamorak established families here. The owners of this house were cartographers."

Kaisen's ears perked up. "Cartographers? You mean mapmakers?"

"Yes."

"So they made ancient maps?"

"That seems logical," Ael said, puzzled at these odd questions.

"What are you getting at?" Saren inquired.

"The priestess told me the ancient location where the curse was placed on the dragon. It no longer exists under that name, but these maps might have it on them!"

"Perfect!" Saren exclaimed. "Show us the maps," he commanded to Ael.

"Very well then," Ael replied. She left and came back shortly after with a collection of scrolls. "It should be somewhere in here."

Saren and Kaisen got to work looking through the maps, searching for the name Ak'Namozk. Finally, Kaisen saw it on the map. "There!" he announced joyfully.

"Good," Ael said. "Now, let's compare it to a recent map to find out what is is." She looked at the map. "Got it," she announced. "It is today the Demonic Ruins, deep in the Wilderness."

"We can find the mage that cast the curse and thereby find out how to heal the dragon," said Kaisen.

"In the morning," planned Saren, "we will leave for the dark Wilderness."

-------Chapter Three: The Darkness of the Wilderness-------------------------------------------------------------------

The morning saw the departure of Saren and Kaisen from Ael's shack in the Haunted Woods. They soon left Morytania altogether, beginning the next leg of a journey that would take them all over RuneScape. They traveled west and soon arrived in Varrock, where Kaisen wanted to stay, but Saren made him continue northward into the Wilderness, where the sky began to appear black ahead of them.

The wind had stopped entirely, and the sky was dark. The sun could not shine through the black clouds that perpetually covered Zamorak's Wilderness. The dirt underneath their feet was blackened and bare, barren so as to never bring forth any life. The Wilderness stretched out like a nightmare before them.

"This is the Wilderness," said Saren bitterly. "A waste of land, constantly bombarded by the evil of Zamorak. An eternal testament to his darkness."

Kaisen looked ahead at the barren landscape. "What is out there?"

"An entire hoard of dark creatures: demons, dragons, and many other bloodthirsty beasts. All followers of Zamorak. We'll have to watch our backs when we're out there. We'll be surrounded on all sides by enemies."

"Thanks for the reassurance."

He looked coldly at Kaisen. "In battle, there is no need for reassurance. It is just lies. There is only the fact of obstacles and what you must overcome. Let us go, into the lion's den."

The pair of travelers ventured into the dark wilderness of the evil god Zamorak.

Kaisen and Saren stalked through the Wilderness, hiding their progress from the dark creatures they might find. Kaisen shivered occasionally and cast a fire bolt on the dragon egg to keep it from weakening him. He needed all the strength he could get to survive in this dark wasteland.

Saren halted and held Kaisen back. He pointed over the hill ahead, and Kaisen saw a large green beast. It was long and lizard-like, with green scales, wings, and a long tail. It had a fierce expression on its long face and smoke emerging from its mouth. Kaisen had never seen one of these creatures outside of a book of lore, but he was now face-to-face with one. It was a powerful green dragon.

"We want to stay out of the way of those," Saren explained. "I don't have my anti-dragon shield to defend against their fire breath. Besides, we don't have time to mess with them." Saren led Kaisen around the dragons.

Kaisen looked at the map. "We have only a little more distance between us and the Demonic Ruins. The only thing to watch out for is Red Dragon Isle, which may have some red dragons wandering around outside its lava river borders."

Saren scoffed. "I doubt Agaben is letting them roam around."

"Agaben?" Kaisen pondered. "Who is Agaben?"

Saren sighed. "My superiors ordered me not to tell people, but I think I can make an exception in your case. The land Saradomin controls, Asgarnia, is soon to be under attack by the dark forces of Zamorak, led by one dark spellcaster. Agaben is now Zamorak's forces' leader on RuneScape, and he will not rest until that dragon and the whole of Asgarnia is destroyed."

"Where is he?"

"He resides out here, in the Wilderness. Rumor has it that he is accruing a large army to storm Asgarnia and defeat the White Knights and other Saradominists. He also in secret hunts the dragon egg. According to a message received from the ship the priestess was on, he attacked the ship in hopes of smashing the dragon egg. He failed, however, because the thick shell around the egg is impermeable. So he allowed the priestess to enter Port Phasmatys because she would die, and then so would the dragon. Agaben did not count on us, but he will no doubt learn the dragon is still alive, and he will come for us."

"And we're in his territory, right under his nose."

"Yes, it would be all too easy for him to kill us. That is why we need to stay in these lands for only as long as we need to."

The travelers hiked up a steep mountain that overlooked a deep basin. The land was flat after this point. "That's not good," Saren remarked. "There will be no cover when we go into that area. Whatever we meet we will have to fight, whatever it is." Saren got back behind the hill. "We need to be rested when we enter that place. We will sleep and take turns keeping watch. Tomorrow, be ready to fight."

--------Chapter Four: The Curse of the Silver Dragon-------------------------------------------------------------------

Kaisen and Saren arose at what they assumed was morning, for the sky was too dark to tell if the sun was up or not. Kaisen woke up with rattling bones. The dragon had gotten cold during his sleep, and he had not awakened. He promptly cast a fire bolt to soothe the beast and got up. The thought that he might not sleep until the curse was lifted was sombering. It made him want to find the man that cast the curse so much more.

Saren got to his feet. "Today's the day," he said fearlessly. "Let's go. Enjoy this time, our lives could end at any minute."

They walked on into the basin, keeping constant watch on their surroundings to prevent an ambush by dark creatures. Saren gripped the whip feverishly, ready to attack. Kaisen stumbled along, fearful of what they would find.

On the dark horizon appeared a black silhouette of a tall monster. The beast was red and demonic, walking on two legs but had powerful wings. It was a demon.

Kaisen recognized it immediately from a book in the Academy library. "It's a Greater Demon!" he whispered fearfully to Saren.

"Ah, so there's nothing to worry about." Saren began walking in the direction of the demons.

"What are you doing?" Kaisen asked frantically. "You're walking right into them!"

Saren did not answer. He began to run, flipping his whip into position to attack as he dashed toward the demons. There were three demons, and one of them looked up and alerted its companions of Saren and Kaisen.

"They see us," Kaisen panicked. Saren had no such panic. He flicked the whip and lashed a cut in the demon's chest. As the creature howled in pain, Saren wrapped the whip around its head, and with one quick move he beheaded it. The demon's body turned to ashes and scattered across the dark ground.
