Knight Before Christmas Yak Track update:

This morning, I more than completed Task #3 in Karamja by harpooning 68 swordfish and 64 tuna. I only needed to catch 120 fish (salmon or better).

I then went on to complete Task #4 by finding the 5 presents scattered around the Barbarian Village, Lumbridge, Al Kharid, and Burthorpe. I am liking these Present Hunts.

Now I am on Task #5. I can either earn 285,000 Smithing XP or burn 1,130 logs (willow or better). 285,000? It would take a lot of rune arrowheads to reach that total! I might have to resort to smithing rune burial armor or using protean bars. I'm not pleased these Smithing tasks were changed. This doesn't appear to be a change for the better. It seems to be a change to encourage buying bonds for skip tokens. Bah.

It was exactly one year ago today, on Sunday 15 December 2019, that I made the switch from using Java to play RS to using NXT. Not that I had much choice, since the Java option was ended three days later. I played in Java for the last time that Sunday afternoon on my old 2012 laptop with Windows 7. Then I fired up my 2018 laptop running Windows 10, downloaded NXT, and began using that client to play RS.

I had read wildly varied opinions regarding NXT on the RSOF. Some claimed it was an ugly, unplayable mess that ought to be scrapped. Others proclaimed it to be gaming perfection, something that was a million billion times better than Java.

As I expected, the truth is somewhere between the two ridiculous extremes, as is often the case. While some of the graphics are undeniably better in NXT, including fire and water effects, others appear much the same as they did in Java (I played on High graphics in Java, and normally use High in NXT too). Rockertunities were useless in Java, since we could hear the sound effects but couldn't see the particle effects above the rocks. However, teleports are still a mess in NXT. Those landings can be pretty rough!

In over 15 years of playing RS in Java, I never had a "malformed login packet" error. The very first time I encountered this was on my first full day of using NXT, while trying to buy Herblore supplies in Taverley. Over this past year, I've run into this quite a few times since.

I do not miss the loading screens. Not at all! :)

In short, NXT is certainly playable...but it is not perfect.

I would enter it into The Guide as being "Mostly Harmless". ;)

Knight Before Christmas Yak Track update:

This morning, I finally completed Task #5 after earning more than 285,000 XP in Smithing. I accomplished this by using 520 protean bars to do some protean elder rune smithing, making 2700 rune arrowheads, and smelting three inventories of gold ore into bars.

Finishing this task earned me my 50th pet - Robin! My list of pets on page 11 is updated.

For Task #6 I can either chop 260 logs (willow or better) or kill 447 monsters. It looks like I'll be heading to Edgeville to chop yews. Ten full inventories of logs will more than suffice.

Thanks for your kind words. I have now finished the Twelve Days of Fredmas, which means that you can post up your songs. I reserved most of the posts to avoid interruptions when you mentioned, but feel free to do so when you're ready.

Ah, the return of the Yak Track. Hmm, it feels a little nicer this time, although fifty individual tasks is a daunting milestone. In my opinion, it would feel a lot less stressful if it was limited to ~25 tasks of increasing difficulty and greater variety, with the rewards compressed down into a smaller track. With that said, I understand they want to have a longer event and drum up skip sales, but I think the main issue is the length and repetitiveness.

I can't help think that a lot of the rewards would have been lovely rewards from a temporary Christmas event, and could have been the sort that could make a return every year. I also think they missed the opportunity to use the event as a springboard to graphically update some surface-world characters (faries!), or to tie other creatures to it.

Anyway, with my rambles aside, it's nice to see you progressing with it. I grabbed the Twitch Prime promo, which awarded me five extra skips... I can imagine they'll come in VERY handy!

You are quite welcome, Trewavas. I was enjoying reading through The Twelve Days of Fredmas earlier this afternoon. I had some catching up to do, since I've not been on the forums much this week, other than to update this thread.

I was debating with myself over whether I'd come up with a Christmas song. I did, but I thought I'd wait and see if you would include it with your festive holiday offerings. It's not there. So I guess I'll have to type it up and post it. Don't say you weren't warned! :P

This Yak Track is a bit different. I do not like how insane the Smithing tasks are now. I enjoy smithing, but the idea of having to earn more than a quarter-million XP in it just to advance a tier and earn a small star or small cash bag is just miserable. It used to be that you could make 50 to 60 sets of arrowheads to complete a Smithing task. Now 1,000 sets of rune arrowheads would not be enough! O_o I do quite like the Present Hunts. These are fun!

The rewards seem to be an improvement over the last Yak Track. I don't know how far I'll get through this one, however I do have an advantage I didn't have before. Since I only used one of my two free skips last time, I currently have three skips on hand. :)

Play Minigames is still an option, I have noticed. Minigames? Really Jagex? :P

Knight Before Christmas Yak Track update:

This afternoon, I completed Task #6 by chopping 260 yew logs in Edgeville.

For Task #7, I can either craft 500 pieces of ranged armor (Snakeskin/Green Dragonhide/Blue Dragonhide) or burn 1,230 logs (willow or better). I have already started stocking up on green dragonhides and then having them tanned for 20gp each. Sure, getting dragon leather this way is a little more time-consuming, but it is cheaper. Yeah, with over 102 million coins in my pouch, I could afford to buy 500 tanned dragonhides instantly on the G.E. - instead of gathering items to sell in order to buy the hides and pay to have them tanned - but where's the fun in that?

An update on my POH:

Today I received, completed, and redeemed a Construction Daily Challenge. I completed the challenge by planting two big plants and three dead trees within one of the three garden spaces in front of my house - the one with the portal directly in front of the main doors leading to the parlour, plus the ones directly east and west of the portal. I now have all the plants planted in front of my house, and I have five dead trees - two in the garden spaces east and west of the portal, and one in the same garden space as the portal. I have the space for one more tree, but a tree planted there would be too close to the main doors to my house.

There are no further upgrades I wish to make to my POH, unless and until the F2P cap on Construction is raised. Therefore, at least for now, I have toggled off my ability to receive any further Construction Daily Challenges after today.

Actually, I no longer receive Daily Challenges in any P2P skills, except for Agility and Thieving. I still allow those, as they are relatively quick and easy.

Interesting is one word for it. :p While I can appreciate Jagex trying to revive interest in their dead minigames, I don't see waiting around for ages for someone to play Fist Of Guthix with as a viable alternative to super-grindy tasks. I used to enjoy FoG. *sigh*

With your virtual Fishing level of 120, I'd say "baited breath" suits you well, Trewavas. ;)

Today, just before game reset, I won two small XP lamps (Runecrafting) from Treasure Hunter.

Rubbing the first lamp got me to Runecrafting level 88! :)

My Total Level is 1589 (Virtual Level 1593).

I can now craft 9 Air runes per essence. ^_^
