And I'm suprised Jagex felt the need to include one as other mazes already exist in runescape and they have proven themselves perfectly capable of creating brilliant, original and innovative puzzles. Only last month they had the fantastic lava surfing segment of Children of Mah so this was a big disappointment. I think even if a puzzle is original and intriguing like the lava surfing puzzle you shouldn't be spending virtually the whole quest on it as this massively lowers the game play quality of the quest.
Secondly the boss fight was another issue I and it seems a lot of other people had. I have since completed the quest but I felt the boss fight was too hard and should either be nerfed or have an easy mode. as a player with maxed combat skills and many maxed skilling skills I should not have struggled as much as I did, I can only imagine how much trouble non-maxed players had.
Fundamentally a well rounded quest needs a puzzle element and an combat element but at the heart of every quest is a story. The main purpose of a quest is the storytelling which should never be compromised or overriden by the puzzles or combat. I feel that in this quest both elements compromised the story. The rewards were very good and very generous, certainly worthy of such n a challenging quest.
The Christmas event was very enjoyable and a return the classic style of holiday event making. Personally I always preferred a holiday event in the style of a quest, I never really liked the community based holiday events. I am a sucker for the classic tale of helping santa save Christmas filled with a hearty amount of cheesy jokes and Christmassy clichés
