Stay calm. That's just the colour of the bar, when you're digging out your compass chest. It was dark blue before the update and now uses the light tone you're always seeing in archaeology.
*takes deep breaths*
Okay. Thanks for clarifying! Since I've yet to do any compasses, I didn't know there was a prog bar for digging them up. So seeing that the compass would "use" the regular arch bar kinda freaked me out!
I still think there needs to be an option to turn them off.
But at least the compass clues aren't too annoying.
Why would you even want - the compasses are extremely generous in terms of their rewards.
You always get 1-2 (wiki says up to 4, but I've only rarely seen 3 so far) complete tomes, which are equalling a large lamp each (which for itself is more than 2 or 3 level adequate artefacts), which even can scale past 98 (whyever some sources do this and others do not), 4-6 drops of 100 materials and several artefacts to restore. Not to speak of a chance to receive a dragon or - if you're extremely lucky - tony mattock.

Why?
Because I hate treasure trail clue scrolls, & the tetracompass is just a renamed version of clue scrolls. The main difference is that the compass only gives compass location clues, rather than slide puzzles, outfit/emote tasks, etc.
Getting clue scrolls is, IMO, very annoying, & they always drop at the most obnoxious times possible (like while you're getting mobbed in combat & trying to pick up a food drop to stay alive). When I found the option to stop getting them had been added, I set it right away.
Likewise I find getting these compass pieces almost as annoying (at least they don't drop in combat).
A small chance at a tier 60 mattock, when you need to be 76 to get the dyes to restore the compass & already use a better tier 70 mattock hardly qualifies as a reward.
And the casks don't give Tony's mattock, they have a very small chance of giving a key that has a very small chance of unlocking Tony's mattock. So the chance of actually getting Tony's mattock is basically infinitesimal.
The problem with treasure trails is that whatever "rewards" you get aren't worth the bother of getting them. I don't see how that's changed with the tetracompases, the only positive is that it uses the least obnoxious type of clue.
Anyway that's too off topic for this thread.
I hate treasure trails & don't want compass pieces, other players love them; we all have our feelings & opinions.
What we obtain too easily, we esteem too lightly, it's dearness only that gives everything it's value.
The compass is
one single step
- if you *really* don't want to do them - just destroy them - it's not like they would drop that often - at least not as often as those obnoxious surplus imcando pieces. Clue scrolls as drops are significantly more common - and as you said: are potentially dropping in significantly less convenient situations.
Also - that tier 60 mattock is actually better than the smithable t70 one - ignoring the fact you could outright upgrade it to a t70 mattock (since you correctly states, that an ironmeme needs to be 76), that is better than the smithable t80 one - or use it later for a t80 mattock that is better than the smithable t90 mattock - and eventually use it for a t99 mattock that hasn't even a smithable counterpart anymore.
And well - as for tony: Compasses are the sole source for keys so all tonys are stemming from compasses. It's certainly not something you can plan with - but a failed key still would be an additional large lamp. And spoiler - there also is a key giving you the mattock guaranteed.
But as you said - since this is drifting into off-topic: Just destroy the stuff if you really don't like it - but in contrary to clues you're really missing out on stuff by doing so, since the base rewards already are extremely generous for the effort you'll need to put into them - can't be said for clues, that are living from their jackpots.

Hey Jagex, if people really don't want compass pieces feel free to deposit them into my bank instead. I will sacrifice my time and dispose of them properly.
