Doesn't matter if you have the authenticator I had it on I didn't play for 3 days some how they bypassed it turned it off and hacked my account I never received any emails about log in attempts or deactivating the authenticator and I check my emails multiple times a day and this hasn't happened once this is the second time in 3 months same exact thing was left in lumbridge with nothing left
lost over 1.5b, the cheeky sods even added an authenicator to my account and somehow bypassed my recovery questions. took me 12 hours to get my account back too so how without my details have they managed to get it. just spent the last 2 weeks in hostipal so have been unable to play.

The password change emails are sent out - because you need to click on the verify link in the email to authorise the password change.
If you didn't see any password change emails, it means
a hijacker has access to your email
.
It takes minimal effort to delete the email after clicking the link.
Check logins to your email.
Change the password of your email right away.

The hijackers did not need your recovery questions to take control of your RS account.
At some point (usually in the hours before the hijack) your email has become known.
Did you access your email through a public wi-fi?
I have had my account hacked today too. Seems like a common problem play the game for loads of hours to make progress and profit to have it all taken away. It disgusting and as a result of this I have cancelled my subscription and will not be returning to the game. Played this game since 2010 and years playing other games however this is the only one I have had my account stole from me. The worst thing about it is jagex are happy to take my money every monthBut don’t even have the decency to have proper contact support. Not even an email address just continuous links to reset your password which doesn’t even resolve the situation. Hope other people cancel membership too just so you’ll learn to fix your issues.

Jagex prefer to be contacted via the webforms in the
Support Centre.
The old email system was very inefficient, it got to the point where a player would wait a couple of months for a reply.
Jagex have a benchmark response time of 48 hours to the webforms plus there are tools embedded in it to help ID you.

The single biggest threat to players accounts these days is social media websites and their use by hijackers.
Any Runescape related Twitch stream, Youtube video or Facebook page is fair game for hijackers to insert enticing
"click here for massive giveaway/double exp signup"
etc.
If you are on social media, be very wary of Runescape related stuff - don't click on any links!
Iv been hacked yesterday he called me email adres to it's hard to retrieve it back.
Very hard to speak some RuneScape staff. iv been trying to get it back. but the hacker also hacked me email account. and set me email adres to retrieve password.
Yes, create a brand new email with a brand new, never used before password.
Then work through the

support page.
