be interesting to see what the next competition is :)

though hoping it's not something mundane like "name the librarian"

Fairly certain (or at least hopeful) that's going to be Aristarchus. :)

Aristarchus? You mean that Menaphite historian that's been sitting in Pollnivneach doing nothing since the Feud? I hope you're right.

So I went like three words over, can you let that slide or am I gonna have to shave off the fat?

253 words won't be a breaker. They already said that.
However ... there might be a difference between a 253 word submission with an avg number of characters, and a 253 word where you were intentionally use the longest possible words to tell the story.

Secondly, they do reserve the right to tweak the story/submission. So if something was off grammatically (or at least in the context for whoever the character is that was supposed to have written it) or it didn't fit the lore, then they might touch it up.
[context as in Thok's attempt to write an epic love poem or a Troll lawyer writing up a contract]

Is a Word document an acceptable form of presentation for this?

Submission sent! I'm super excited to be a part of this, and to see all the entries that make it into the library. Thank you so kindly for this wonderful and unfathomable opportunity! ~

The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction has to make sense.

The things which I mentioned in my entry are part of a theory that Xau-Tak might have been a factor which pushed Amascut over the edge after Freneskae and Tumeken burning the Kharidian Lands. Menaphos may have been a port town which caught creatures similar to the sea slugs, and as Icthlarin said in Missing, Presumed Death during the Sixth Age (which means we won't finish off our work in the desert during the Fifth Age), "My sister has gone mad, mortal. She summons creatures to devour the souls that I strive to protect."

The entry I put in might explain a few things that pushed Amascut to complete insanity. What she saw on Freneskae might have disturbed her, but there may have been more that happened back in the Kharidian Lands after that.
