I’m very stunned that most of the responses don’t include the songs that were composed for the quest: One Piercing Note. Considering there are just a handful of songs that truly speak to the player, all of them pale in comparison to what “The Abbey” brings to the table. This track is one of the few songs that tells you a story as you play it.
Picture a young and brave adventurer hailing from a kingdom to the north, renowned for saving countless lives and rumored of even defeating a powerful demon. This adventurer has set their sights on a kingdom within the Kharidian Desert, hearing tales of untold treasures and mighty foes to slay. During their visit, they hear tales of a place of worship, where they could find treasure and salvation, and thus the adventurer heads off to the outskirts of the city. They noticed the sand shifting and turning ever so softly, almost as if were living, and a man piercing the sand with his javelin as it moved. Confused by the actions of the man, the adventurer stomps on a mound of sand, and waits…and waits…Nothing interesting happens. Slightly embarrassed and bewildered, the adventurer journeys forwards towards the ruins, only to be stopped by the same man. The man, supposedly a “Strykewyrm Hunter” tells of what lies ahead, an old Abbey that has stood the test of time. Curious, the adventurer ventures forward and sees it in the distance, The Abbey of St. Elspeth Citharede.
Then the track finally plays as the adventurer comes closer to the entrance of the Abbey..
The Adventurer looks on to the structure of the Abbey, visible cracks and wear from the harsh desert has taken its toll on the once great Abbey, yet by faith and will alone, it stands boldly and ready to withstand anything else the desert has to offer. A true marvel and relic from an Age when faith was stronger. Before the Adventurer could finish taking it all in, a sister appears running from the gates, calling out for the adventurer and so their quest finally begins…
