I consider myself an advanced Linux Mint user, but I'm hitting a brickwall here.

Since a week ago, everytime I run the official runescape-launcher app - my entire Linux system literally freezes. I had to login through tty to sudo a reboot

Temperature is not a problem either. I used to run this official client with a respectable 35fps in medium setting.

Every 30.0s: sensors LINUXPC: Sun Aug 30 20:37:30 2020

radeon-pci-0008
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1: +12.0°C (crit = +120.0°C, hyst = +90.0°C)

k10temp-pci-00c3
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1: +12.6°C (high = +70.0°C)
(crit = +70.0°C, hyst = +69.0°C)

My memory usage is not abnormal either:

free -h
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 7.5Gi 2.3Gi 3.6Gi 199Mi 1.5Gi 4.7Gi
Swap: 1.4Gi 0B 1.4Gi

I tried running /usr/bin/runescape-launcher from the terminal, it didn't produce any console-based error for me to use as a reference of what causing the entire system lock-up.

I felt stuck with this problem, given runescape-launcher is the only app in my Linux Mint computer that succeeds to lock-up the entire GUI. As I switch to tty terminal, the machine is still very responsive.

This setup was working a week ago, the GUI lock-up only happened this week without any changes on my end. The hang only happened with runescape official Linux client, which is designed for Trusty - a version of Ubuntu that was already discontinued.

Edit: Hmm, seems I solved the problem.

I deleted the "Jagex" folder inside my home folder and relaunched the client. It now works as normal.

It works now Hmm, I just tried deleting the Jagex folder inside my home folder. Relaunched the client and loads as normal.

I'm still unaware what caused the lock-up though, the only app that locked my Linux Mint system since I moved to Linux since 2010. Unbelievable, Linux Mint 20 is based on Focal maybe something connected with that.

My hypothesis is something became corrupted inside the Jagex folder that caused the lock-ups.

Hmm said :
Was it locking up frequently until you cleared the cache?

It locked the entire GUI all the time (every time I launch the client), XFCE was literally frozen.

I had to tty to force a sudo reboot.

i have problems when turning in yack task . it just alway crashes.
any fix ?
Yeah me too but I'm able to access it on mobile (android phone), so try that until it gets fixed on Jagex's end. Apparently it's crashing clients in Windows as well so I suspect it's not a Linux-unique issue.
My motto is to be nice if I can, but also to not suffer trolls.
