Too meta level content.
When RuneScape started... One of the things that was different those days:
Developers had to justify meta content with "Magic" or some other careful explanation.
Nowadays you collect Achievement Points or something, a meta system within the meta system of Experience Points. I'm sure it works psychologically to keep players in a flow state and addicted, but it's not too beautiful to be honest.
Sometimes I wish NPC's had more story than acting as a missing GUI component.
Sometimes I wish skills were logical like Strength or Woodcutting. Now you take a design of flawed content (Slayer) and before release, you already have planned fixes for the problem that wouldn't have to be there in the first place (problem of blocking skills).
Why would that Master Artisan not assign people skills of a certain tasks? Some things make sense, like certain weapons make more damage and certain rocks take longer to mine. But nowadays you got all kinds artifacts that just do some random stuff, more in line with the game mechanics than the actual imaginary world.
Things like teleporting from chat, prospector and lumberjack outfits, leprechauns, etc...
