If you expand this continent, try to include something or areas that are more active in pvp worlds. For instance if you create more mass maybe create something that tries to induce more pking activity there. Right now pvp worlds are stupid. Theres no reason to leave varrock and actually hunt all over. Maybe on this new continent offer a 1.1 multiplier for people skilling on these areas to encourage people to move away from banks "I've been playing since 2006 but jagex made me quit 11/20/2013"

Whatever the new area(s) involve, there should somehow be significantly different from existing regions. I'm hoping for more than another place to train my "bankstanding" skill :P

Rather than another city, how about some high level skilling/gathering/combat areas in which the environment adds some mechanic which complicates survival? Ideally, it should be far from a bank but allow resource noting so there are significant advantages to being able to remain for a long time.

Kinda like higher level versions of the existing swamp, desert, and ice regions except actually dangerous and with actual reasons to go there. I'll toss out a couple ideas in a few posts:

EDIT: after giving it some thought, it seems like a fairly practical thing to implement; few npc's are required (graphics may be reused), and rewards/risks could be balanced to address resource shortages in current economy.

High level swamp area:
Region designed for combat/gathering for players with high fishing, cooking, woodcutting, and agility. Very far from a bank, but good place to gather stackable drops (seeds, swamp tar, cash). To use the region efficiently, players must use a variety of non-combat skills to survive.

- Set up like a large maze around water, with strategic agility shortcuts
- "Decayed moss giants" (high level) scattered throughout region can mage over water/melee up close, but are very weak to melee. Take agility shortcuts/run up to them. They drop lots of seeds/swamp tar.
- It's very far from a bank, so players need to gather wood and fish for eels to allow long-term survival.
- Swamp decay which causes additional damage based on how long the player has been there.
- Players may randomly get "stuck" causing a snare effect from anywhere between 1 and 10 seconds, depending on agility level

High level desert area:
Region designed for players with high thieving, crafting, and magic levels. Good for thieving/magic. Players have to balance using prayer, inventory food, and blood spells to keep health up against tough monsters while wearing desert robes.

Consists of desert surrounding a central pyramid. Around the base of the pyramid are chests to be lockpicked, and mummies guarding them. In the surrounding desert are cactuses for waterskins and groups of bandits (good for blood barraging).
- Desert heat effect: same mechanic, much more damage to those who don't wear desert robes (basically no armor in region).
- Once every few minutes, a "sandstorm" will occur, teleporting the player to a random place in the region.
- Mummies drop blood/soul runes and guard chests. Chests offer gems and jewelery (requires careful risk/reward balance)

It's already fairly rare to see people while walking around in most worlds. Wouldn't this make the playerbase even more sparse than it already is?

I don't want to feel like I'm all alone in the game :S

I wouldn't mind seeing a few worlds removed when the update comes out, as this is something that crossed my mind as well. If there are new things to do/new training areas, it shouldn't affect resource crowding
