It's growing harder and harder to stay positive as a pvper when seeing updates. many problems in the past months seem like just glaring out of touch things. like the dhide nerf for one example. the problem has always been the mage def you cant catch a freeze on someone in double dhide 10kgear, but out of touch ironman jmods think nerfing melee def of it will solve it. like what?? i could go on and on about this blog and the past year of "content" and how everything gets catered to ironmemes but anything pvp is the red headed step child if irons want an instanced wilderness jamflex will probably give it to them...

The thoughts of a PvMer/Skiller HCIM (and ex-pker):

Firstly, I can understand the motivation behind a lot of these changes. I also agree that this is integral to the health of the game. Please don't take offence to this, but I do think that the OldSchool team is being somewhat naive in their decisions of what to change and why.

Firstly, using the motivation of 'PVP' for the changes to black d'hide seems a little silly. To write reworks for things as menial as black d'hide while the granite maul still (and always will) dominates the PVP meta is ludicrous. Secondly on this same point, if you are going to rebalance black d'hide to fit in line with the combat triangle idea - why don't we address the fact that people catch freezes in full rune vs full black d'hide in LMS WHILE their opponent protects from magic. Now increasing magic negatives in melee armour is great, but the issue obviously comes down to the way that magic is coded/rolled in the game. It should be (for all intensive purposes) basically impossible for that to ever happen if we're going to follow the idea of the combat triangle. So if you're going to do this, do it once and do it right. Tick ALL of those boxes and change everything at once.

The blowpipe: As a current 60 attack rune pure build, it pains me to say that this was a long time coming. How the blowpipe has remained the way it is for this long is beyond me. That being said if you're firing top tier darts (when combined with scale loss is very expensive) then it should still be a very viable option. Maybe the nerf is a little too heavy, but a nerf is needed nonetheless.

Finally: The 'making everything viable' idea is great for short term future updates. You can now release chain bodies/square shields and they might actually be viable. But that won't last for long. Please don't get into the idea that all old content NEEDS to be viable. It was designed a long time ago and we need to remember that.

DEAR TEAM JAGEX PLEASE from the bottom of my heart WE HAVE BEEN HERE BEFORE!....

I hope you read this one, from a very loyal player i sincerely hope you hear this calling, please i beg you to leave this game as it is right now... YES weapons and armour are powerfull, byou might consider raising the levels to wield / use items, thats fine with me because that adds up to the sheer power of some items..

But please leave the old items from day one intact, please dont mess around with dragonhide armour and any other thing, i was 8/9 years old, we all learned to play this game a certain way with the old combat triangle, if that would be altered the game intergrity is lost and then "oldschool runescape" would be history repeating.. dont forget why oldschool runescape was made and how many people needed this....

Now that runescape is such a big game and filled with memories after 2 decades we also lost people irl wich we used to share runescape with and perhaps have memories to certain ways of playing this game etc... just leave it be Jagex i beg you.

If the old armour / weapons will be altered in other ways than it was for the past 2 decades in such a way that we have to learn to play again i will seriously consider ending my subscriptions.. i hoped oldschool would never be in these waters again and i had enough of this.... just next time when launching an update or new raid just dont make it so extremely hard or overpowered ... please just consider all these updates as a lesson and adapt in the future

I love this game so much and spent so much hours in it, dont ruin it please

What is up with the recent updates? Purposely trying to ruin the game and get players to leave? Certainly seems that way and that’s exactly what I’d do if these changes come into place.

Why not spend a bit more time thinking about raids 3 rewards rather than nerf the current items that work well in the game.

Seems very rushed to me.

Fix PVP and worry about raids 3 at a later date. PVMers have the new diary to look forward to, don’t ruin that with these changes. Don’t base this update off the opinion of 10,000 which is such a small percentage of the actual player base.

Another thing to note: If you are going to make those changes to black d'hide, maybe think about making another armour that sits somewhere similar to its old bonuses. Making it harder to get, potentially around the same requirements. Make it not cheap to acquire but do the same job, that way you please everyone.

Maybe reduce current d'hide defence requirements with that too. With it being basically like wearing robes, it seems silly to have the defence requirement as high as 40 for the body. I think 25-30 defence would be more fitting.

Create a new tier 40-60 defence range armour that is the same stats as black d'hide is currently but is much more difficult to acquire, making it more expensive but just as viable as d'hide was.

-----------------------------

FINAL COMMENT (I swear) : Be very wary of the actions you currently take. Whole studio teams have pitched unpolled ideas like this before, huge changes without players say-so and they also thought that at the time it was right and integral for the game. We all know how that turned out.

I agree that if you are going to make these changes, they need to be unpolled as they would never pass. That being said, just be aware of the fact that once you put something this huge through without a poll - you're sending a direct statement to the whole community that their voices are no longer the most important thing to you anymore. Before you know it, MTX is an integral change for the financial health of the game. You said it would never happen, but you also said that changes this big would never happen without polls.

Just some food for thought. Once you do this, there is no taking it back.

Good luck with whatever decisions you make, I genuinely do hope they work out for the best.

This survey does not even represent majority of the players. OSRS was designed to put the players in power with the polling systems. All of these proposals should be polled to the players to determine what the actual community wants the future of the game to hold. If you already 'know' the polls will not pass then obviously you know that the community is not agreeing with your decision. Thanks for causing major price manipulation as well for the next few weeks. Leave things the way they are and use the polls to determine the games future with major changes.

I'm actually really surprised at how much negative feedback there is on this blog. I think everything proposed makes a lot of sense.

I'm personally excited that other ranged weapons such as the crystal bow and acb will be more viable rather than the blowpipe absolutely dominating every situation. I appreciated that you guys put examples of how the bp nerf would affect various bosses. To me it sounds like that if you have dwh then bp will still be BiS in the majority of situations. Not sure why everyone is freaking out over the bp nerf. It's still going to be an extremely good weapon.

As far as the black d'hide nerf - I think a lot of people forget that Karil's is still an option and a relatively cheap option at that. Considering that black d'hide top/ bottom is like 10k and gives its current stats really is ridiculous.

Giving the dragonbone necklace a buff is much needed although personally I would like to see maybe slightly more strength bonus but keep it as a 80 prayer requirement.

All for giving a rebalance to the lower level equipment as well. I think introducing being able to use different attack styles such as stab and crush to new players will definitely benefit them in the long run as well as give some fun variety to lower level players.

Personally I think you guys were very reserved when it came to the buffs/ nerfs and seems like it was well thought out. I've seen a lot of people saying that this is the start of EoC again, but much of what is being proposed really does need to happen.

Excited for the new content that you guys have planned.
:P
