This soul wars makes me sad :(

I was so excited when I heard it was coming back, but after reading the blog it just seems like a bunch or forced changes to try and make it different than the one in RS3. After I maxed I joined a soul wars clan and had some of the best time I've had playing an mmorpg.

I really didn't mind the time commitment required to play a game. 20 minutes with a huge group (including your friends) over 10 minutes with a bunch of randoms sounds way better to me. Soul wars had its own community, and these changes feel like obstacles to playing with an actual clan/team.

I started reading this blog with excitement, but now I'm just disapointed

- having games run concurrently
Running multiple games of soul wars on the same world defeats the purpose of banding together into a friends chat or clan. You simply can't play with your team on a recurring effective basis.
- upper cap of 60 players
Goes along with the first issue, you can't play properly with your team in a team based minigame if there can only be 60 people per side in the entire game.
- Games last 10minutes
Shorter games only make for more cheesy mechanic abuse and less strategic gameplay value. It encourages playing alone and just rushing the cap points/avatar
- No slayer req
This is an alright change considering the removal of slayer as front point for the minigame.
- Game ends if player count drops below 50% of starting count
This is just crying for abuse in clan vs clan fights. If you're losing then just simply pull your team out and then its over. There is gonna be no point in trying to play against sabotaging clans or bad clans when they can just stack a side and void the entire game within 2 minutes because they pull their entire stack out.

Would really be nice to get a bit of a round-table discussion with the players who spent hundreds of hours playing Soul Wars many years ago. Can't speak for everyone, but myself and several others spent more time playing Soul Wars than any other individual activity in Runescape.

I know it's implementation into OSRS should be a community-led one, but it seems like the developmental team behind the shake-up misunderstands why so many years after it's eventual EOC related demise there is still such a strong and close-knit community constantly hoping to get back into the minigame. Just a single minigame led to amazing community building, with clans battling each other for that top spot, defectors forming teams to counter and crash them, and a constant arms race to the top.

So much of the reddit thread is dedicated to the other mini-game changes listed that it would be nice to see some engagement here, where the focus is on the implementation of Soul Wars.

I think a big issue with how old Soul Wars was, was that it had a lot of bots/leechers in most games just doing little to nothing game after game to get free zeal or be one of those lvl 3s with a slayer cape. It seems the devs are trying to combat that with all these rule changes. Not that I agree with them, but it does seem to be the reason why.

I'm also not a fan of the cape being a reward in the minigame, that was locked as a rather prestigious reward for people who managed to complete Nomad's Requiem. This is one thing that continues to upset me with OSRS, rewards that were once earned through quests are just being haphazardly slapped onto lesser things.
Congratulations, you just advanced a Defence level.

I'm happy to see this blog! A few comments:

For soul wars, I was hoping the quest would be included with the update, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It actually sounds like a harder version of castle wars in its current state but with some pest control and barbarian assault rewards. I'm also bothered that there's a random portal in edgeville for it, when it sounds like it could be either an addition to castle wars at this point or some new content addition for Kourend. The pets are cute though. Knowing my rng I'll never get them if they come into game.

Having changes to last man standing will be nice, but I'll be honest in that it won't do anything for introducing new players to pvp. The player level gaps between noobs and veterans are ridiculously high, and there's just not enough incentive/skill-gap learning for new players to invest time to that minigame.

Yay the games room will be a pubs room!

Okay, ferox enclave is a minigame hub.

For barbarian assault I will never misclick "Build wall" again. Thanks.

Cool, free pots in castle wars. And some potentially interesting fashionscape.

Can I store baby implings at Puro Puro? I use those to get new jars for my impling hunting.

I think I wanted gold keys and higher level shades for years. But where's my shade pet? And wait, what's the altar for? So I can keep fighting without prayer pots in the room or something?

Okay, I'll wear a coffin, but can I get that spade too?

The prayer robes...they're ugly. Also is the intent to use them strictly for shades of morton or worldwide? That'd influence what I'd say about the potential use for them.

The bloodbark design is awesome, but I think it should be like a rare eastern-land armour or rare Kourend armour design because it doesn't look like splitbark anymore (I would love to fashionscape with it though!!).

Also I am happy to see the team took the community's suggestions and is reconsidering the items with existing skills! Great work!

This is how RS3 content is ported well to OSRS!
I see some are complaining that these changes would be bad for clans... I don't know about that, but they definitely seem great for casual players. Sounds fun.

The other minigame changes also sound good. Changing barely just content so that it gets popular again is always a profit.
I remember how let down I was in 2009 when I had the mood for some Trouble Brewing fun, yet nobody was there in any of the worlds at that time. Even in OSRS the last time I went there, there always were just 1-2 people per team.

Though I despise many content that was added to mainstream RS after 2007 and almost all that was added after 2011, but I'd also like the Nomad quest in some form, especially because the challange. Especially that now we can't use summoning creatures for tremendous extra damage.

About the prayer robes: I would prefer a prayer bonus!

But the robes should either be not usable at the Wilderness Chaos Temple or at a (very) high risk only. This would make training prayer outside the Chaos Temple slightly more equal in exp/h in comparison with the Temple.

the very high risk is already that you're in deep wildy. They already stated that any bone saving effect the robes have would be less than that of the Chaos altar. I'd imagine the risk would be that you have to be wearing the full set which would probably be at least a bit pricey, making you juicy bait for a pker.
