Doing a drop won't at all simulate the experience we had of the original rare drops.
I usually was at my grandmothers for christmas, but I clearly recall the halloween and easter drops.
Worlds were not nearly as crowded as they would be in this more organized community, so the few rares scattered around was enough for the 4-5 players that you would have in sight.
After the drop, you could easily find somebody to sell you the items, which weren't yet called rares ofcourse, for about 5-10k each(Hardly an unfair advantage, they would climb to more eventually but it took years and years for them to be unattainable to casual players who don't stake/play lots). Now that we have an abstract value, and the fact that we call them rares, this would not be replicated at all, people already have an idea of the value so people would buy them out, and for millions. The people who picked more up during the drop would be far richer than those who didn't.
The only solution is to give them to everyone, but even that will just make the rich merchants even richer, it's what I'd vote for if I weren't voting no though.
