I think adding rares into Runescape will give the game a better feel. But how these rares are/will be distributed is a very fragile topic. I hope Jagex insures fairness to all players, mostly in the manor these may be handed out at. My vote is yes, please bring rares back.

This is a terrible way to set up the poll. I do want tradeable rares to return, but some of those options about how they might be implemented scare me. So, unfortunately I'll have to vote no on their return. This is how the poll should look.

FIRST POLL

1) If tradeable rares were to be allowed in game, which way would you like them distributed? Perhaps a 'select all that apply' deal. (Doesn't need 75%, the biggest % moves on to next round)
A)
B)
C)

2) If non-tradeable rares were to be allowed in game, which way would you like them distributed? Perhaps a 'select all that apply' deal. (Doesn't need 75%, the biggest % moves on to next round)
A)
B)
C)

SECOND POLL

1) If santa hats, party hats, etc. are allowed back in the game should they be? (Does not need 75%, the biggest % moves on to next round)
A) Tradeable
B) Non-tradeable

2) If scythes, bunny ears, etc. are allowed back in the game should they be? (Does not need 75%, the biggest % moves on to next round)
A) Tradeable
B) Non-tradeable

THIRD POLL

1) Would you like tradeable rares, (the ones selected tradeable in poll 2) to be implemented in the way specified in Poll 1? (Needs 75% to pass)
A) Yes
B) No

2) Would you like untradeable rares, (the ones selected tradeable in poll 2) to be implemented in the way specified in Poll 1? (Needs 75% to pass)
A) Yes
B) No

Anyone here who is wanting them to be treasure trail items or untradable is simply against hard work. If you don't want to work towards a rare, THEN DON'T. Rares are a staple of wealth...and like it or not, in real life the rich get to have things the lazy don't.

Are all poor people lazy? No. Wealth is a journey...and we don't need new third age like items. Rares dropped like originally...and they won't be worth mils for the first few years.

Bottom line, unreadable rares is ridiculous. Don't be afraid of wealth staples.

Hey guys, just to let you know that we will be moving the rare polls forward a day and so start tomorrow. We have also added a question to the second poll based on your feedback.

Obviously the second poll's exact wording will depend on the first result.

The current wording for the questions are these, please give me feedback tonight, this is your last chance:

[Title] Old School Rare Poll #1

[Preamble] This poll comes in two sections, please make sure you read the Dev Blog: Rare Items on the Old School Forums prior to voting.

Untradable Rare Items are Bunny ears, Scythe, Yo-yo, Rubber Chicken, Zombies Head, Hats and Scarves from Christmas 2005, Marionettes, Easter ring, Skeleton set, Jack lantern’s mask, Reindeer hat, Wintumber tree, War ship, Chicken Suit

This poll runs from 10th April until the 17 April

[questions]
1. Would you like rare items return in some form? (a list of all rare items appears at the top of the poll)
2. If you vote for rare items to return, would you like the currently tradable rare items to remain tradable? (a list of all tradable rare items can be found at the top of this poll)

[title] Old School Rare Poll #2

This poll runs from 17th April until the 24th April

1. Would you like rare items to only be available for a limited period after their introduction?
2. Would you like rare items distributed using similar mechanics as we did before (dropping them, holiday events)?
3. Would you like rare items to appear as a very rare reward from a treasure trails?
4. Would you like rare items distributed through very rare monster drops?
5. Would you like to have an NPC shop you can buy rare items from for a small amount of GP?
6. Would you like to have an NPC shop you can buy rare items from for a large amount of GP?
7. Would you like rare items to be given out as rewards from community events?
8. Would you like us to give one of each rare item to every old school player?
9. Would you like rare items to appear as very rare drops when skilling?
10. Would you like us to introduce new seasonal events for each rare item?

Don't need them, and doing fine without them. It won't be the same, however they're introduced.

I'd rather you didn't even have a poll for them, to be quite honest.

But given that you apparently will have, I will be voting against them completely.

Edit: @Sodutch. Thanks for so clearly illustrating the main problem with them. When you start comparing cosmetic game items to Real World wealth, there's a problem. And that attitude is largely what ruined them, and the real game, to begin with. People aren't willing to work for them when they can gamble, bot and otherwise cheat their way into (pixel) wealth. Exactly why my rare stays in my bank on the main game. And why I won't go after any more. Too many negative associations.

We've got such a good thing going right now. To again ruin that with misguided views on what rares "represent" in some metaphorical sense, especially when we now have the full benefit of hindsight (and why Andrew Gower regretted tradeable rares in the first place) blows my mind.

Dear Mod Mat K,

Would it be possible to let us pick one rare of our choice? Then there will not be as many rares as under option 8. Also, I think it would be interesting to see how the least picked rare may eventually become the most desired one, because it would be the rarest.

I would love the chance to get a rare phat or Santa hat, and I would like to get it true old school manner to release them the way they where originally released into the game. It seams to be the fairest way to do it since the 07 economy has already been effected by eoc money. (people paying eoc gp for 07 gp meaning the rich in eoc stay rich in 07)

I never got a chance at these items since I started playing the game just after they where released and I don't have the tons of billions of gp to buy them in the reg game.

I don't care if they stay worth lots of cash I just would like to be able to have one. when they came out they where not worth much except for some fun. they only became worth something bc jagex kept them trade-able and you could not get them ever again.

Jagex why even put it up as a question you know the mistake you made in the first place long ago was allowing the items to be trade-able to begin with after making them rare.

I'm voting for 1. Distribute them using similar mechanics as you did before (dropping them, holiday events) its the fairest way to do it.

edit: typo

Mod Mat K - I really think you are missing out on a major point that a lot of players are having discrepensies with. A lot of us do not want to risk voting 'yes' in poll 1 to have tradeable rares come back, without being able to know how they will be implemented. I'm not willing to take the chance that they come back in some less than desireable way, so unfortunately I'll have to vote no for them to return at all.

My suggested poll setup (page 44 post 3 of this thread) I believe gives a much better framework to base the poll around, that eliminates that 'chance' element that will skew the votes.
