I see at least a few other people have similar concerns as far as rares staying rares. I personally am 100% for seeing untradable rares again however I am opposed to bringing back tradable rares as 'rares' and the option to buy from an NPC strikes me as the most appealing, but only if they remain this way. And by that I mean is it possible to release these items we all know and love but without making them discontinued eventually?

OR rerelease all the npcs on their respective holidays?

I also quite like the idea of them being released as treasure trail rewards with varying rarity if, again they don't eventually become discontinued.

Yes I would like rares to return in some form.
Yes I'd like rares that were tradable to return as tradable.

I don't think it would be a good idea to drop them as you did before because then the people that are busy/don't have computer access at that time would miss out.

Having them be a rare treasure trail reward would be good.

If your going to make them a rare monster drop, you should make it from slayer monsters, the higher slayer requirement monsters will have a higher chance of getting the drop but you have to be on a task for that monster to even allow it to be added to the drop table, this would make it even more challenging to obtain and it would kindle interest in slayer.

If you are going to have an NPC sell them I think you should have party pete sell them at a high price. I think this would also bring people back to the falador party room.

Don't give them for free to every old school player, or in community events because that defeats their name "Rare Items".

If they are a rare drop from skilling, as with drops from monsters, the higher level you are in the skill the more likely it is to get them as a drop. However, with this you should make it so it teleports to their bank if their inventory is full, instead of dropping on the ground.

As for untradable rares, reintroduce the events for them every year, or if you create new 2007 holiday events make it so you can receive the previous year(s) event item once completed with it.

These are my thoughts on how Jagex should handle rares in Old School RuneScape.

Mod Mat K quotes the following:

From the amount of talk about this subject we could see that we would have to act on this very soon, but how could we do it fairly so that everyone could have an informed say?

------

I think the only fair way to go about doing this is without INFORMING, or giving players an INFORMED say. In fact, when rares came out, no one was informed that they would be rares. You would have to do it in the dark. And people will start noticing very quickly that rares are here...

1. Would you like rare items return in some form, and how?
Yes; in random spawn locations and enemy drops; Regardless of the holiday, every tradable rare needs to be dropped at the same time if you want to have them.

2. If you vote for rare items to return, would you like the currently tradeable rare items to remain tradeable?
Yes.

Rare items shouldn't have a trade value, simple as that. Rares won't be the same in OSRS like they were back in 07 simply because people put the initial price tag on them from EoC, thus people will horde them which is stupid. Rares were only fun back then because they were discontinued prior to 2007, not released during or after.

As I've read somewhere else, Party Pete should sell Party Hats and other rares for 1-10k. Would shut people up want the stupid things, and no one would deal with it in the end. I personally don't want them in OSRS, but if they have to be in here with how many people want them, I don't want them to have a trade value since it's going to be curved towards an EoC market.

I think you should add [ Dragon Claws ] into [ 2007scape ] [ oldschool ]. I think a lot of people would enjoy those like myself because in [ e.o.c. ] there is no special attack and the dragon claws are really [ stupid / a pointless item ]. This is just 2/3 of people who think this.

I do believe rares should be put into OSRS.

The rares that were tradeable should remain tradeable, and the rares that were untradeable should remain untradeable.

I think they should have a small drop chance from NPCs for about a week. I'm talking .30-.50% (around 1 in 200) drop chance per NPC. This would almost guarantee that they don't become too abundant, but also give everyone a fair chance at looting them. Also, for the untradeable rares, they should be unique per account meaning that you can only get them 1 time unless you lose it of course.

If you are wondering how the the people that can't kill NPCs(skillers etc.) could get them, you could give an even smaller chance at getting them through non combat activites. Say a .05% (1 in 2000) chance of a rare replacing a log obtained from a tree or an ore from a mining node.

Also, I believe that higher level NPCs and higher level skills should have a slightly greater chance at giving a rare.

These percentages could be altered how you see fit, but I think they are fair.

The only problem with this could be that not very many rare are put into the game. Personally, I believe OSRS will grow larger and larger over time. Therefore the price would skyrocket much faster than it did back in pre-EoC RuneScape.
