You could make Diango give untradeable rares based on how old your account is.
If you created new account for 2007 you could "login" to the older account ingame to verify that youre oldschool

Is there a way to check how old your account is? I know this is not my oldest account but I'm not completely sure when I made it in relation to rares.

Which of these ways would you like rare items to be distributed? Each of these questions have a yes or no answer.

Distribute them using similar mechanics as you did before (dropping them, holiday events)
Appear as a very rare reward from a treasure trails
Distribute them through very rare monster drops
Have an NPC shop you can buy rare items from for a small amount of GP
Have an NPC shop you can buy rare items from for a large amount of GP
Have them given out as rewards from community events
Give one of each rare item to every old school player
Have them appear as very rare drops when skilling
Introduce new seasonal events for each of them

These are the methods suggested in the most recent devblog, but I can't help but notice that an idea I had on release of OSRS about the implementation of rares is completely missing.

This idea is the absolute most fair method, and easiest method to implement surely:

An item which a player can open to reveal a possible gift is planted in every single OSRS player's inventory upon next login. This item would be of the form of a parcel, a present, a safe (anything that would be opened by the player). Upon opening this item, there is a tiny chance of receiving any one rare item of old, and then a large chance of receiving, say, a small cash prize.

This way, there is 100% equality with all players, anyone who is on vacation during any time of implementation wouldn't be left out due to it being 'on next login' and the rare items remain rare through the exceptionally low probability of receiving any one rare item.

I feel this is only a useful way of handing out the tradeable rare items, however this most certainly seems to be the wisest option.

Any thoughts, please do reply specifically to me, was going to set up a separate topic, but figured it'd be removed! Also, posted this in the official rares topic, but figured this would be slightly more active.

How would it be any less fair for them to be obtainable via clue scrolls?

It just makes them essentially the same as 3rd age stuff, and of course it ensures "equality" since everyone who wishes to can do clue scrolls.

I just can't understand why you'd want to develop an entirely new system for distributing rare items when we already have one in place which works very well.

I have a great idea. The rares would be available from clues and/or rare monster drops for a period of time. It would prevent people from collecting huge amounts of rare items and would make sure, that the rare items would stay rare. The period of time i am talking about is around 2 weeks to 1 month - it would give players enough time to get plenty of rares into the game.

The only way they should be in game is as a discontinued item, there's only a set amount of them in-game and cannot increase, Definantly seasonal events for the items or 1 random tradeable rare to every player that VOTED

I think they should give all the tradeable rares to every person in the game playing right now, and then stop it so people wont make extra accounts for more rares.

Or

Something like, after you pass 100 questpoints you get a tradeable rare of your choice.

I think they just should be dropped like they have been before in the holiday event. Even though it doesn't seem to be fair to many people. Having them as clue scroll reward or monster drops isn't even that fair to everyone also. There's always a group of people that isn't able to get some high level or rares. So would it be fair to distribute them like that?

For example me: i'd rather train 99 Runecrafting than going to Kalphite Queen. As many others who want to be skillers or haven't got any time to start hunting cluescrolls because they want to pk in Edgeville. I think I've made my point, dropping/rewarding them wouldn't be fair.

None of the options is, so just stick to the Oldschool feeling and just drop the bombshells like you did before in 2001, Jagex.

Note: I want them also be tradeble for if I çan't manage to get a white partyhat. Otherwise it won't match with the color of my fur.. I'm still scared for the Chinese Panda hunters for my fur. (lol joking, just had to).
Everything goes at Panda speed

I'd love for them to be untradable and provided through Diango, but if they must be tradable then simply have them as event rewards just make it a bit more unique idea such as it's earned during the event and it's completely random how you earn it. This would make no one person know how to properly obtain the item. If they finish the event they lose out on a potential tradable reward, but if they don't finish it they lose out on a potential untradable.
