I don't play OSRS but I do like the idea of an Auction House - something the main game really needs to update on...
My thoughts on making it impossible to manipulate ~
When selling an item, you must pay 1% of whatever you are posting it for upfront, before you can post it on the AH, every 12 hours would increase the price by another 1% up to a maximum of 2 days and 4%. You would also not get this fee back if the auction does not sell.
EX - I want to sell my guthan's spear for 1m for a day, which means I need to pay 20k gp to post it.
Second thing, if you successfully sell an item, you get your placement price back, but a 10% fee is deducted from the total sale if it is >= 10gp
EX Well, I sold my Guthan's Spear for 1m, now I get my 20k back, but I have lost 100k from the instant tax for using the AH.
^ doing this will eliminate merchanters from flipping items a few gp to make some profit.
Third to make it so that if you want to cancel your "auction" before the time expires, that 1% pre-payment is NOT refunded, and the item(s) go to your collection box.
For the buy side, have a area where you type the item, it does a real time search once you press enter, and by default shows the items from cheapest to highest.
EX I type tun in search, and 4 offers come up for Tuna, and Tuna Potato, Tuna Potato are at the bottom because they are more expensive.
When you buy something from the AH it is instantly transported either to your bank or the collection box / mailbox somewhere near by, which can then click a button to deposit into your bank...
Just my suggestion so you don't have the same problem we have in RS3 where people are flipping EVERYTHING that can possible be flipped.
I could even do a sudo-code for the AH if you would like... you would have to implement the database for the AH though cause I don't know how to do that
