@ Star Derp,

You still have to be online to fully realize the profit. I think we are against money being deposited to our bank without our being aware of it.

Good job you have to collect it from the auction house guy then, isn't it.

The g.e. was originally a Player submitted idea, which was aimed at allowing players to buy and sell their items more efficiently than simply scouring through the trade forums or standing in Falador park coping with the spam.

I envisioned it as an in game access to the already thriving marketplace forums, which would allow me to focus more on playing than opening another browser window to find a trade offer I was interested in and hoping the other player was still on line.

Where the g.e. failed, in my opinion, is that it allowed a single player to purchase a large quantity of items from several hundred players all in a single transaction. Instead of giving players better access to trade opportunities, it gave direct access to the items themselves.

I play another game, Path of Exile, which has a similar marketplace forum, and several chat channels devoted to trading, posting your offer in the forum automatically posts it to the trade channel and can verify that you actually have the items you are selling.

Ingame access to this list of offers is effected by a bulletin board at each banking area, which does not require a separate area on the game map and keeps the public spam to nothing, although the chat traffic in the several devoted channels is equaly as hectic as the current Varrock trading areas.

I personally think the Auction House should act as an agent to help us find trade offers and should not greatly automate our ability to buy or sell items, especially from more than a single trader per transaction.

Perhaps a better vision for the Auction house is to have it as a communication medium which will connect us to the person we are trading with, without the need to change worlds or add them to our friends list. It could then connect us through the existing trading windows which allow us the chance to not be scammed.

For everyone crying over it ruining oldschool. The only thing ruining oldschool is people who whine like yourself. Oldschool was never meant to be 2007 specifically... Oldschool was brought back purely for the old combat system. August 15 2007 or whatever just happens to have had a carbon copy of the game.

Players have also asked for the trade to expire a certain amount of time after a player has gone offline - how long do you think is suitable?

Fives minutes. People shouldn't be able to make a profit while they're offline. Also, as a buyer, I want to be sure that I can communicate with the person I'm buying from. Five minutes is enough time to hop worlds.

You can farm herbs and make profit while you're offline, shall we change how farming works too?

Funny you should compare the two...

...tell you what Star, if you cap the profit to the same maximum that can be achieved in a farming cycle (an average of 9 ranarrs per patch = 45 x 14k+- at present prices = about 630k in 80 minutes = ~470k/hr) then sure babe, offline is fine.

Otherwise, quit using strawman fallacies.

Gone for almost 3 years. OSRS didn't come out even close to 2010.

Also, I'd rather have it so that offers can be bought while offline. I know a bunch of people complain that, "It's cheating/cheap to make money while not on the game," but an auction house system feels like it'd be way too complex if it depended on deals going away once a player was logged out for 30 minutes or more.

Imagine this: player A puts in offer, logs out. 29 minutes later player B sees offer, is about to buy, but it goes away because player A had logged out.

I think it'd ultimately be better to disallow offline trading, but world hops and disconnects do happen. A short period of time would be better.
I think the suggestions of 5 minutes are good - that gives plenty of time to log back in.

At least farming herbs has a skill requirement. "Flipping" and "Merching" can be done by anyone.

Actually, no, it wasn't...sad for you that JaGex in it's wisdom didn't make you the pre-eoc server that you wanted, but quit trying to remake OSRS into one, thx.
