"On the 27th May we will start a F2P trial where all newly made accounts will have access to a F2P version of Old School for two weeks.""
This is not the way F2P should be introduced at all. F2P has been a key aspect to why the game was successful in 2007. If F2P is introduced all at once, players will not feel they are only playing a 'demo' but the real game and continue to level. In time, players who see the game is fun, which it is, will purchase membership in order to use higher leveled items. However, if players are only given 2 weeks to decide if they want it or not, is not the correct way to do it.
A smarter, more effective way to go about doing this is: Introduce F2P all at once in June, and advertise all over Youtube, all other forums, and get the strong player base again. You may not see immediate results (membership purchases) but you will see a lot of people enjoying a once loved game. Additionally, the two week trial is not going to be seeing immediate results, just like the free trial in October, players, or people in general, DO NOT like to be pressured into buying something they aren't sure of. If they are given the respected rights to play for free whenever they want, they will enjoy their time playing and eventually become a member in time.
I completely agree with you, that's obviously the right way to manage the game and any game out there in general.
The thing is, for me it seems like Jagex doesn't believe that the 2004-Mid 2007 era of Runescape can be revived to its original success and to the same numbers we've all seen back then, thus unwilling to make the necessary decisions. They're clearly underestimating the odds of this game to be successful once again.
The golden question is: Why?
