I'm glad that #4 isn't going to pass.
Here's how I think the trading post should be implemented:
- It should either be accessible from anywhere in RS by means of a menu button OR through physical trading posts in or around each bank building in RS. Physical trading posts might be more fun and encourage trading to take place in safe locations (but not in any particular location as with the GE).
- Players should choose items out of their bank or inventory to sell (to help eliminate fake offers). If an item leaves a player's bank/inventory space, the corresponding "sell" offer should be automatically removed upon the player's next login or the next time they access the trading post interface.
- Likewise, if the number of an item that a player has drops below that stated in the sell offer, the entire offer should be removed.
- Players should have to be online for their offers to be seen. However, a player's offers should be preserved between logins as long as they are still in possession of the items.
- A trade chat channel should be added for sending and replying to trade requests to make adding trade contacts to your friends list unnecessary. Trade messages could be sent by clicking a player's name in the trading post interface or typing t"<player's name>" <message>. Replying should be a left-click option and the "Tab" key should work as well.
- An API should be implemented so that fansites can calculate trends and average out prices, which users could then consult at their own risk. The game should not do this by itself since price manipulation will always be a concern with such a system and Jagex should try not to give users a false sense of security or present users with any number that they could interpret as a "recommended" price. Also, trying to eliminate price manipulation by forcing users to complete their trade offers would be a clear step towards another GE-like system and still wouldn't work (people could still make b.s. trades between their own accounts
