To prevent players from camping in a hiding spot to wait for other players to kill each so they can swoop in near the end to win the game, I think that a system should be added to give incentives for players to go out and kill other players. I have seen several suggestions of rewarding kills with a cash reward; however this does not help the player to win the game and may also not make a difference to the mindset of players who are not concerned about money. Instead, I think a key system should be implemented which will reward players for getting kills by increasing their chances of winning the game, while still giving players who haven’t got any / many kills a solid chance to win.
Every time you kill another player they drop a key. You can use the keys you collect to unlock special chests around the map. Although most chests will remain available to everyone by not having any key requirements, there should be some chests that are set aside that require 1, 2 and 5 keys in order to unlock them to get the reward inside. These chests will contain slightly better items than the items that a player would find in a basic 0 key requirement chest.
Here is a basic idea of what sort of items could be contained in the different tiers of chests:
- 0 keys: Basic gear - rune armour, mystic robes, black **hide, rune scimitar, rune crossbow, ancient staff, amulet of power, etc
- 1 key: Slightly upgraded gear – dragon scimitar, amulet of glory, dragon dagger, granite maul, helm of neitiznot, rune boots
- 2 keys: Upper tier gear – abyssal whip, barrows armour, amulet of fury, god books, dragon defender, dark bow, dragon boots, infinity boots
- 5 keys: Very good gear – armadyl godsword, armadyl crossbow, staff of the dead, serpentine helm, arcane spirit shield, heavy ballista, bandos chestplate, bandos tassets
Obviously the above list is only a rough idea but I look forward to hearing some feedback
