Wow the herding skill reward sounds epic. I want that! However I feel like the cosmetic aspect would be VERY tempting for some players. Look at all the cosmetic equipment OSRS has wanted to add to the game! If you were to not implement the time limit (maybe keep the cooldown so it isn't overpowered) then I feel like it'd be a huge reason to want to train the skill, and to add some serious uniqueness to the sI think this would be the best compromise.

I full heartedly support herding, the other skills were great ideas too but I think the reward of being a creature surpasses the others in achieving the 5 outlined purposes. I also think that to achieve it's true potential there should be no creature cooldown, but also no actions should be allowed while in creature form (it should automatically make you human again and complete the action).

Edit: I see now that artisan is most likely going to win. I do believe this will be the best skill for training other skills HOWEVER i still believe the reward for herding is by far the best and most beneficial reward. So JAGEX PLEASE make the creature rings from herding craftable with the artisan skill if it wins! This would give the best combination of reward and trainability of the actual skill.kill.Also in order for it to help benefit other skills I think there are a few things we could do. one way it could be implemented is to allow players to do actions, such as runecrafting, picking up items, etc, while in creature form. I think this might be an issue though because you wouldn't see player animations and this may add to griefing and other things. I think that what should be done instead is that doing actions should pull you out of creature form, but there should be no cooldown to go back in.

Thanks for the support my friend, Herding is currently in last place but it's rising faster then the others so who knows. :)

All very wonderful ideas, however I feel like Astronomy, Forestry, Geomancy could all be offshoots of the Artisan skill, and maybe that Herding could be either part of that or tied into Hunter, some similar idea. Going to have to vote for Artisan, thank you for this opportunity to truly democratically vote on things we want, if only our politicians could be this honest...

Oh to add onto my point above...

I'm not saying these are bad ideas at all, just bad skill ideas.

- Artisan would be great for getting people to level non-combat skills but shouldn't be a skill of it's own.. It's just the task system, if it offers nice enough rewards it would be of great value.

- Geomancy is pretty useless, just like summoning combat familiars in multi-combat and using magic/crafting variants, I don't think this would be good and becomes almost essential for bossing just because almost all bosses are multi-combat.

- Astronomy sounds pretty boring, I hate using the scope on clue scrolls, I even made myself learn almost all the locations just to avoid using it, doing it for a skill.. No thanks + it seemed very small in terms of what it does and can provide.

- Forestry could be either an amazing mini-game or just an update that makes people use there levels to unlock their own versions of stuff, I would love something like that, especially with doing it with others (like co-op).. But that would be a reason to level your skills up for new "training locations" you worked for, not as a skill though.

- Herding is just LOL though really.. Sorry :( But in all honesty, why do people want to constantly chase animals, will be animals all over RS which will look more like a zoo / farm everywhere, the logic is silly, the reasoning is stupid, the rewards are useless, xp doing RC would be faster most likely if I envision this correctly and how annoying it could be and it sounds very very boring and definitely not for RS, maybe Farmville :P

Some form of "herding" used in hunting (with hunting kind of creatures) could be a unique and different way of level'ing hunter I suppose! Something positive I could see of that :P

May i ask why Agility, Construction and Thieving aren't in the list of Artisan skills do be assigned tasks for? Just curious....

Construction may be costly, the other two i can't think of a reason. Agility would be nice i don't understand why it's not in the list. 'Run 250 laps of barbarian outpost agility course' What's wrong with that? :(

Herding wouldn't involve chasing animals that much, especially with the border collies, a few have mentioned that though its my mistake for not being clearer :(

The challenging part is raising them, which is much more like farming then hunter.

I wouldn't say the rewards are useless

Cow hides over 300gp ea
Goat horns over 250gp ea
Unicorn horns over 1k ea

Hogskin for pures

Buffalo skin for mains

Bison cloak for higher level mains

Wildebeest arrows which would probably 350-400 ea

Hellhounds for level three scrolls

Babydragon bones for prayer

And the rings for agility, shofar for clan calling, the list goes on. Herding has some great rewards I think. Not just being biased, I like forestry very much as well. Heck, all of these could be implemented even if some where mini games or added as an extension to another skill, they could all benefit OS imo
