Here's an idea:
Weigh training:
Level 1 is obviously a slim character. This skill can differentiate from others, they should have ability to go negative, whereas you gain weight. Evidently leading you up to obesity, or whatever seems fit. +99 obviously making your character muscular. Hey maybe even add a strength bonus to having positive weight training. or having positive strength for both, but the fatter you are, the faster you lose energy, etc.

Here's my submission:

Invention
A skill which dignifies players' experiences and capabilities within the world of RuneScape.

Have you ever taken a moment to truly examine and make the best of the world in which you live?
The 'Examine' option has always been overlooked when it comes to RuneScape's items and environment. With the addition of Invention, players that 'Examine' their items and surroundings will not only gain Invention XP, but also gain insight into Gielinor and all it has to offer. Unlike most other skills, Invention XP will not be gained at rates based on the player's Invention level. Instead, Invention XP will be granted based on the number of items, non-playing characters, or objects that have been examined, and whether or not the player has examined them before.

For example, a player examines an Oak tree for the first time, and gains 15 XP. Every time after that, the player only receives 1.5 XP, a tenth of the XP gained from the original examination. The same applies to when a player examines Iban's staff in their inventory, granting the player 50 XP, but only 5 XP after the original examination. Players may also examine non-playing characters and expect the same results. This method not only creates incentive for players to search out for and learn about new items, people, environments, but it also ensures that auto-clicking, macroing, or whatever else out there will be ineffective for training the Invention skill.

"Nothing interesting happens." But what if something did?
As most of us know by now, whenever a random item is used with another random item, nothing interesting happens. Why, you ask? Well, why not? With the introduction of Invention, experimenting with items will become a rewarding experience, and no longer a dissatisfying one. By using any one item with another, regardless of the actual result, players will receive Invention XP in a similar manner as when examining items or world objects.

Say, a player uses a Feather on an Arrow shaft; not only will a Headless arrow be created, but the player will also gain Invention XP. Additionally, if a player uses a Runite bar on an Adamant scimitar, the player will not have combine the two into a Rune scimitar, but the player will appreciate the Invention XP and learning lesson - which is that smithing Rune scimitars isn't that easy. If it is the first time the player has used the two items on each other, the player will gain more Invention XP than the player ever will again for experimenting with the two items. However, unlike examining, the XP rates differ in accordance to the players' Invention level. With level 15 Invention, a player experimenting with two items for the first time will receive 15 XP, and only 1.5 XP any time after that. Similarly, with level 90 Invention, a player experimenting with two items for the first time will receive 90 XP, and only 9 XP any time after that. Once again, this would effectively provide players with the desire to learn and experiment with RuneScape's items, while abuse of such XP gain would be ineffective.

So, how does the skill actually work?
While training any other non-combat skill in RuneScape, players have a 1-in-10 chance of receiving an artifact, a stack-able item which will appear in their inventory, as a replacement of any natural resource expected from the skill, if applicable. Receiving artifacts while training non-combat skills will be an option which may be toggled, so that players may decide whether or not to actively seek artifacts to train the Invention skill. Upon receipt of artifacts, players will gain Invention XP, at a rate based on their Invention level. If a player has level 40 Invention, then the player will receive 40 XP. Unlike examining and experimenting, players will always receive the same amount of XP as their Invention level whenever discovering an artifact.

These artifacts may then be used at specific areas called Invention sites, which will be spread all across RuneScape, akin to Runecrafting altars.

Invention sites are massive areas where players come together to investigate and improve upon what they've found and learned while traveling around RuneScape. Within Invention sites, players will find bookcases, chemicals, workshops, and resources, among other things. Most importantly, however, will be the unnatural wonders. At each Invention site will be a different unnatural wonder, each of which will reflect one of the non-combat skills in RuneScape. For example, there could be a mysterious sea shoal, representing the Fishing skill. Instead of fishing creatures from the spot, players would actually release previously caught fish back into their natural habitat, in attempt to repopulate the sea. Another example would be a mysterious grass field could represent the Farming skill. Instead of being harvested, this field would actually be catered to by players that will water it, plant seeds, and the like. This process will, in exchange for artifacts and natural resources, provide the player with energy and Invention XP. Energy is a stack-able item that may be used on natural resources acquired through other non-combat skills, such as Raw sharks or Coal.

Wow! What can players do with all that energy?
Players may imbue the energy into other natural resources, which will modify their traits, and provide the player with Invention XP. Below are some examples of this:

Energy + Raw shark = Modified raw shark, which requires level 80 Cooking and level 80 Invention to cook into a Modified shark. Modified sharks heal 22 Hitpoints, and would require 76 Invention to eat.

Energy + Mithril ore = Modified mithril ore, which requires level 55 Smithing and level 55 Invention to smelt into a Modified mithril bar, in addition to the required 4 Coal. Modified mithril bars may be smithed into Modified mithril equipment, such as a Modified mithril platebody, or Modified mithril arrowheads. Modified equipment could have slightly increased stats, perhaps in accuracy, defense, or damage; modified equipment would also have a respective Invention level requirement for use.

Energy + Maple log = Modified Maple log, which requires level 45 Firemaking and level 45 Invention to burn, and can also be burned in a nontraditional sense: as bonfires.

Another possibility could be to create modified tools, to keep up with the time and advancements in technology:

Energy + Vial = Modified vial, which may hold up to 6 doses, instead of the 4; also known as flasks.

Energy + Hammer = Modified hammer, which allows for faster smithing of bars, or provides additional XP.

Energy + Box trap = Modified box trap that allows the player to place an additional trap at one time.

All of these activities will provide the same amount of XP or have the same characteristics as non-modified items, with the exception of Invention XP being gained for all these activities and/or creation of modified items.

Note to Jagex
I understand that not all of my ideas can be incorporated into the game, but I just wanted to send you guys all this as part of my new skill submission for Old School RuneScape, and also in order to see how well you take it; to see how far you can go with the ideas I presented here. Thanks for hearing out your players, and best of luck!

Wonderful idea, although looking through other people's ideas I kind of took whole new approach to this. Also including the most concerning thing to most of you - unbalancing some of the items values, etc.

So I will be posting my idea shortly. I myself concentrated on the words "Original idea".
