The Old School Community is just....aids. They will be the real death of OSRS if it ever happens. No matter what update is suggested, they straight away go to 'You're turning this is in to EoC' but yet the updates they want.....are from rs3? Such as Dungeoneering and Summoning. Thank God of RNG that Jagex is not going to add Dungeoneering or Summoning. People don't understand how the survivability of Old School depends on updates and progress in to a new direction. No updates= No need for a team = No supervising of the game = death. For all the ******* who say 'It's going to turn in to RS3/EoC" ....... shut the hell up and move along.

I won't be voting yes to any major updates until you show that you can deliver them properly. Currently there are many updates (nmz, ****ah, etc) that are still unbalanced and have things in them the community did not vote for or know what they were getting so I have no confidence in you making an update as big as this without introducing a glitch, broken mechanic or overpowered training method/gold making method and then not fixing it for 2 years because of 'data'.

I don't think oldschool needs updates for the sake of updates. We should only have a new skill if it fits the game. In my mind what has been proposed so far (although not much) has not convinced me at all.

I would have preferred dungeoneering with different rewards. The game doesn't have enough multiplayer content in it, especially for an mmo, and dungeoneering would have helped to fill this void. I'm not sure oldschool needs any skill right now though.

Until more information is provided I am leaning towards no, while I love the concept I also loved the concept of a dominion tower minigame...and melee lost all integrity and getting rid of randoms sounded great...and now magics a joke.

If the concept does pass I have a few recommendations.

1) make the exp rates low reaching like 40k/h maximum at higher levels, tbh as this is a "fun" skill it should probably be lower, the sailing cape should be an accomplishment.

2) make it such that as a solo player you must click more intensively but only get slightly more exp than as a group, this would mean that for absoloute max rates you have to focus a large ammount but can do it alone, and for a more leisurly experience you can band together with other players with slightly lower exp rates than solo (based on team mates performance).

3) add some RNG to the minigame, like a chance at facing a sea monster type boss which requires 95 slayer and has a very small chance of dropping a weildable item that helps with sailing (similar to how you could randomly get hexhunters and ssh in dung).

And honestly did you see how many people thought sailing was a joke again? That's because it is a joke. Its a ridiculous notion to add something you've used to troll, into the game. It would be like you bringing dragon kiteshield/dragon claws to OSRS. Smh. Losing faith in you jagex. Real fast.

I can't see anything major that this dev blog actually talks about, we'll have to wait til Friday for more information about the actual skill but for now these is my opinions on the questions.

PvP
- The biggest thing I can say/ask is that it isn't traditional PvP, I'd like to see a ship battle minigame.

Group vs Solo
- I'd like both to be reasonable XP rates, perhaps balance one to give more rewards and one for more XP but not that much more.
- Also as I have attempted to explain below I don't think a skill should have this limitation, minigames and training methods attached to the skill will have to deal with this issue.

Dung/Summ
- I agree, they were fun but old school doesn't need everything from rs3.

Not a skill, it's a minigame
- From what you've already talked about and what I can imagine you doing it will be very self contained and very much like a minigame.

What I think you need to do
I think you've missed the key concept of a skill, it is basically a simple action that players do, and from that simple action other skills, activities, minigames, etc can be used to train it. For example magic is basically the ability to cast spells. With that basic concept you can use them in pvp, pvm, minigames like mage training arena, quests or by helping boost other skills.
You need to define what the basic concept of sailing (or any new skill) is , in fact I think artisan did this quite well, it just wasn't as original as other ideas. Once you have the basic concept of what sailing allows the player to do then you can start coming up with minigames and training methods such as ship building, battles, nagivating and pvp experiences.
RIP Forums :(
Finally we have signatures in the surprise forum update. I'm Lewis, I play Old School & I've been playing since 2005.

Im only voting yes because i want new areas. Islands with farming patches, island with new dungeon that contain new slayer monsters, islands with more ores and trees. I cant wait for part 3 where you explain more on the training method during voyages know for a fact part of it will be like fishing trawler cause mod ronan like that.

You guys want know something funny about dungeoneering?
It could of easily become a skill not minigame if you took out the reward system. All they had to do was make a brand new dungeon with new bosses that drop chaotic weapons that way players will feel more rewarded when they kill the boss over 100x to finally get the drop.
