I dont want this to be another buyable skill.....

I am sure they intend for Sailing to be a gold sink similar to Construction. Mid-Level will probably offer quality of life features that the average player can't pass up on in order to insure the gold sink is working. High level will probably offer access to monsters with decent drop tables (cost vs. reward) and new prayer abilities (cost vs. upgraded combat ability).

Just my thoughts.

EDIT: Even if building isn't the main source of EXP, they could always make the gold sink "Hiring" a crew in order to navigate the seas.

Nope. It sounds like another mini-game already. Dungeoneering went into RS3 and the xp was almost too fast and easy to acquire; making it an easy 99 or 120 in this case. I think you need to do another poll and have the players come up with an idea of a skill because last time there was one, there were a lot of good ideas and there was multiple things to choose from. If you really want sailing, just make it a mini-game. There will be nothing wrong with that. I like this idea and what it can bring to the game; just not as a skill.

In your future poll, I suggest you ask a similar question to - "Should Sailing be put into the game? If yes, do you want it to be put in as another skill or a mini-game."

I just highly believe people would want it as a mini-game if anything.

Slayer and Farming sound like minigames too.

The announcement of Sailing is exciting news! It is something I have wanted for a long time!

I have always seen Sailing or as I thought if it as Seafaring, as a great opportunity to add new content and utilize existing skills in new and exciting ways, and to add in a sense of adventure and exploration which had been lost with no new areas to explore for so long.

I thought of building ships, or Shipwright, as an extension of the Construction skill and I think Construction XP should be awarded for building ships.

I have always considered it important to be able to start with low level boats and upgrade to ships as you unlocked more in the skill, and gradually be able to travel to further and more rewarding islands and continents.

I also think it is important to be able to upgrade your ships cargo hold to be able to store and carry more, and to be able to upgrade your ships weapons.

Customization could allow a player to choose between speed, number of weapons, and being able to carry more cargo, and also give the opportunity for the more wealthy to show off with cosmetic upgrades such as gilded portholes or custom sails, or fancier hulls.

Random events such as storms, whirlpools, pirate ships, ghost ships, skeleton crew ships, and zombie ships could add unexpected elements, and magic could send your ship to unknown and uncharted waters possibly allowing players to find rare treasures and lands.

Being able to talk to NPCs in bars could give players tips on wanted pirate ships to hunt down for loot, and talking to portmasters, merchants, and kings, queens, and other rulers in lands might allow for special trade missions or rescue or spy missions.

Adding different figureheads to your ship could improve it defence in different ways.

Weapons could be magic, ranged, or melee based, such as being able to fire magic cannons, firing projectiles with ranged, or rams for melee damage.

What did we do to deserve this? Please dont punish us for wanting to play the good old runescape...

Stay like it is atm, dont bring up any updates like a minigame skill. This sounds just like dungeoneering, and not rlly like something that should be implemented as a skill. I'd rather want summoning or dungeoneering than something like this, and im not fond of any of these 2...

I hope it wont pass the poll. The idea might be good for rs3, but not in oldschool runescape, its called oldschool for a reason.

IMO it stopped being oldschool when the Corp and GWD was released

Being able to invest in ports or special missions could improve or harm relations with different kingdoms, making you a hero of a land or an enemy, and change what you can do and what goods are available to you and and what prices in various lands.

I'd like to see outpost shops on islands with monsters to fight and players to be able to request food and potions and other supplies such as arrows, bolts, and runes, which other players could deliver to the shops based on supply and demand.

I would also like to see merchanting, where the NPCs on an island would request something such as wool, cowhides, planks, gems, ores, armour, weapons, etc. and the player could deliver whatever seems to be most profitable that day, which could serve as an item sink for common goods. There should also be gold sinks with shops selling supplies at inflated prices because the things the players need are hard to get so far out at sea.

There is just so much potential with a sailing skill for trading, exploring, adventuring, special missions, diplomacy, and skilling, I am excited to see what this update brings. :)

One thing I think the game really needs right now and that could easily be unlocked from sailing is a Blood Rune Altar. Blood Runes are ~375gp ea and I think most people would agree that's ridiculously expensive. A calculation I did the other day revealed that one cast of Blood Barrage costs 2500gp. It would be a good mid-to-high level expansion to Runecrafting and would also hopefully drive the price down to something more reasonable. Hi Mod Ronan
