We have to pay to play the "free" (original/highly restricted) version of the game. Additionally, yews can't be chopped and other similar cases are excluded.
Newcomers have to pay to play the "free" game, and when they see how unrestricted P2p is they will (granted they enjoy the f2p version) want to pay for P2p.
This aint about losing players it's all about the money. It always has been.
All you do is take take take and rarely give.

Here are my thoughts. OSRS was released because players wanted it back. In my opinion, some of the core distinctions between OSRS and RS3 are:
1) The graphics
2) Classic pking (i.e. no EOC)
3) No bonds
4) No GE (which we just voted in)
If 1) and 2) change, I will certainly be done with OSRS. My question to Jagex would be, if you released OSRS, why are you slowly turning it into RS3? The players clearly wanted OSRS, and the path we're on is turning into RS3. Soon there will be RS3 and OSRS3 haha.
I'm definitely not against updates, but try to make them original and not what's already been done in RS3. I'm definitely for f2p, but not for bonds. I'm certainly not convinced by the arguments they gave for needing bonds. It's just another step in making OSRS into RS3. Honestly, I don't know why it's so hard to determine who is a botter, but for F2P why don't you just restrict trading of Yew logs/lobsters.
The reason for so much hatred of RS3 is mainly the EOC and MTX, many players want a game similar to RS3 minus the bad updates like EOC, MTX, cartoony graphics, and for some the new interfaces.

Which is what I said, I don't know what MTX is though, I must have stopped playing before that.
MTX includes the treasure hunter (formerly Squeal of Fortune) and runecoins for soloman's store.
