In the original post they already backed up with data from RS3 that botting increased with the introduction of the GE because it made it easier and considerably faster for them to off-load botted materials for stacks of gold. Less scams sure, but common sense should prevent a lot of these already anyways so I feel no remorse for those who choose not to do their research. Also merchanting is not the demon most players believe it to be, it's just the product of having a free/open economy, it is just another way of making money. There are players who are patient and those who are impatient, the merchanter essentially buys from the impatient players who are too lazy to sell their items at market to high-end market values and instead sell it at a discount to get rid of it faster. The merchanter then becomes like other patient players who will spend more time trying to sell those items at a higher markup. There's no scam or wrong doing here, if you sell to a merchanter then you are either lazy or didn't do your research. Merchanters will thrive with GE or not, the only way to remove merchanters is to force players to buy and sell items at fixed prices (and by fixed I don't mean market price).
