Hi everyone,

I just wanted to clarify a few things with you regarding the upcoming run of the "Crystal Capsules" Promotion. As some of you have seen, from Thursday on Treasure Hunter you will be able to unlock a new "Shadow Gem Virtus Armour."

These armour sets degrade as standard, are not Augmentable or Tradable and cannot be Disassembled for components.

Like other Lucky items it looks slightly different from the original Virtus Armour and you can see the concept for it below.

Thanks,

The RuneScape Team

All this doesn't matter. You can excuse selling MTX equipment with any kind of excuse you like, but at the end of the day, MTX like this harms the game's integrity. That it has stats means that it can be used in combat, and the fact that it's cosmetically different means that it can be the desire of someone for fashionscape, forcing them to pay unless they get lucky with free spins.

Please cancel this and remove Treasure Hunter completely. Any combat equipment and all cosmetics should be earned through actual gameplay only. That way, they both mean something and your real life wealth doesn't determine whether you can get the items or not.

If MTX was truly optional, it wouldn't sell, which would defeat the point of what Jagex tries to do with it: to milk the players for more money.

maybe you can buy keys and give us all the odds of getting it lol

That might be the single most nonsensical take I've ever witnessed on the subject of MTX in gaming, for or against, and that's coming from someone who agrees that things have gotten out of hand. "If people decide to buy optional stuff, it's not truly optional"? That is ridiculously circular logic, and you know it.

There are plenty of legitimate arguments about MTX, TH, and especially this promotion in general, but this is pure horse pucky, and makes serious arguments against the practice weaker by association. You're better than this.

Anyway, in regards to the promotion itself...

I figured this was how this promotion would go. As I said in the other thread I doubt this is going to impact the value of actual Virtus much, if at all, but I'm still leery about actual statted equipment being available from TH, even if it functions like Lucky items. Especially in light of the fact this is level 80 gear, which IIRC is the highest TH has ever given out.

Considering that the wind is shifting fast against lootboxes and Jagex is already in the Parliamentary hotseat this week over TH, this is really not a good look. At the bare minimum, it'd probably be a better idea to move this to Solomon's in a purely cosmetic form.

It can't be augmented and degrades, making it effectively cosmetic like the other lucky items. Without perks, you'd be better off with elite void than this.

How sad. This is the stupidest idea i've seen in quite some time, and I can't believe people sat down, in a meeting room, and decided this is actually a good idea and a step forward. Sugar coat it all you want but this is absolutely fucking vile.

IDGAF if it's not augmentable, can't be disassembled, or how it looks compared to the original. Hang your heads in shame the lot of you. When is enough and a time to actually step back and think of what you are actually doing, you morons.

Just take a step back, stop giving the MTX team so much fucking freedom to do anything they want and work on rebuilding the playerbase's trust - not this shit. I'm actually so ashamed in the people who thought this was acceptable - what's next? Shadow Gem Torva? Nox gear? It's all a matter of time.

Thanks for nothing Meadows, good luck wherever you end up at. It's sure as shit better than a company which is literally a burning ship at this stage

I don't know if you're dumb or just plain ignorant. It's T80 gear, what makes it cosmetic? And how would elite void be better than this?

I recommend staying out of conversations you know zip about
