What would happen if I bought keys with oddments at 50% off and then kept those keys stocked until the next promotion to use them? Would it still be considered abuse?

I can't see anything wrong with stocking up on keys, just like I can't see anything wrong with players taking advantage of what happened here. Without the hotfix, the overlap in promotions would have ended at reset time anyways.

The exploit has nothing to do with free spins or key brought now or in the past at all.

I have a couple problems with this one. The key sale was to be expected. I actually checked the price of keys and bought 10 when I saw the sale. It would be foolish not to take advantage of the offer during this overpowered promo, which has been in the game for a long time now.

I didn't cash the keys out for oddments, because I wanted the prizes. But other players may be in a position where they did not want those specific prizes and used the intended feature of cashing them out.

That whole system is designed to be 'less like gambling' and let players get more of the rewards they desired. For more on this see anything Mod Warden has said since arriving. The fact this was active for over 8 hours is a pretty big problem. Knowing it was expected.

I should have spent all of my oddments on keys for this promo if I was smart. Whether I cashed them in or took the prizes would have been my choice.

Jagex said there was no damage to the economy, which they always say. And isn't there a limit to the amount of items a player can buy on a sale?

I hope the punishment involved went beyond the players and onto the staff. How many of them have been banned or suspended for their inaction or lack of planning?

TH prizes are mostly untradeable and the few tradeable ones have very low gp values. TH is mostly about untradeable items and cosmetics, hence almost no effect on the economy.

Besides, if you look at the nature of the exploit, it is not hard to see people are converting the prizes to oddments and they buy keys with them. They may get more keys that way, but they are not cashing out outside the TH system. There ware simply very very very few items being cashed.

So people that already had oddment prior to this promotion could have used all there oddments to buy TH keys with no problems?? They wouldn't have got banned??

P.S: I didn't know you could buy TH keys with oddments :O I'm behind the times :O With over 100k oddments in the bank I could have cleaned up TH :P

There need not be any effect on the RS economy for this exploit to impact the game.

Consider this possible example:

A player buys several TH keys at an oddment discount, wins a large amount of oddments after cashing out a few good prizes, and uses those oddments to buy more TH keys at a discount. They repeat the process until they amass a huge amount of oddments.

Later, on a day when medium lamps are 75% off, they buy as many lamps as they can. These would be in addition to whatever lamps they won and didn't convert to oddments. The result: A lot of XP for very little effort.

The economy wouldn't be affected...but the game still would be.
Aslon Dak: Still 'Scaping after 19 years!
You can buy XP. You can't buy experience.
"...From The 'Scape" is very nearly here.

This is not an exploit at all because Jagex intends to give us Oddments every day just by logging, and more for playing the game. It is their intention to let us accumulate oddments through. There is no expliots because we are not gaining any advantages over anybody by doing things Jagex does intend us to.

Ok, I asked this question above.

I have collected over 100k oddments since oddments came out - If I knew about this TH thing and spent all my 100k oddments on TH tickets (I think this is what the abuse is??) would I have been one of the persons who got banned??

I believe Jagex's announcement made it pretty clear already. They set a threshold on what they considered exploits. That said, they banned only 900 of the 4k or only 22% the players they investigated.

The abuse was not on exchanging oddments for TH keys but on the intention and actual actions the players did in that period. Of course, if these players used mechanical device to aid their actions, they are going to be banned for more days.

Very disappointing to allow this. Just got all my levels not long ago, always for a personal goal. Should have option to remove from hi scores list, thats how pointless it is because of this MISTAKE by Jagex!!! was. Only solution would been 100% removal of bonus xp gained and items, but im sure that would been more work than simply banning ppl. Which was only to make the ones who missed out on millions of bonus not feel bad. Take some accountablity jagex you look like poop. Ill take a 14 day ban for 100m bonus xp where do i apply?
