Then problem with saying salt in the wound is the worst is that the quest itself is pretty fun. It doesn't make sense but it's still fun to do even if people complain about not fighting the slug queen but in truth I think that's just ego. We don't always need a true boss fight.

SITW's gameplay was passable, but this thread is about best/word quest STORIES , not quests.

While Guthix Sleeps may be the best quest, but that doesn't mean it has the best storyline.
You never were our brightest star, Khazard. 'Vermin slaughtered like lambs'? What does that even mean?

Alright fair enough. If we are only going by story SitW was pretty damn awful and BRotD is still following the same plot even if very weakly.

I would still say WGS is better then RotM but neither of them are bad choices.

quests like wgs rely on a great many different stories coming together and/or every story that came before them in their questlines... and I sort of feel like that's cheating

(I randomly forgot how to spell rely... I dont know if that's an accurate spelling... In my defense, english is my second language, although I have been speaking it for 18 years)

for me, monkey madness has a very good standalone story... it doesn't need the previous quests to make it good, you can pretty much fill in the 'before' blank
it has a very adventure-y feel to it, and it's not just the game throwing lore at your face, it's actually almost as if you're really exploring this new land yourself (today, most of the danger is no doubt removed and that makes the story less good, because you can't as easily see this as a new and potentially deadly area)

Birthright was a good quest, but I think it suffered from being released so long after King of the Dwarves. Expectations were too high. If you went and played through the dwarf series from start to finish, you'd probably find that Birthright is actually a pretty good quest, especially now that the bugs have been fixed, and post-quest dialogue has been released.

Anyway, in terms of best quest storyline I think I'd have to go with either The Chosen Commander or One Piercing Note. John A was probably Jagex's best writer, and those two quests are probably his best work.

In terms of worst storyline, stuff like Doric's Quest, Imp Catcher and Monk's Friend are the obvious offenders, but I guess they should be granted leeway since they were released very early on. In terms of recently released quests, I think Salt in the Wound is probably the most offensively bad.

SITW's main issue is probably that the tone is completely different from that of previous entries. Sea Slug, Slug Menace (and to a lesser extend Kennith's Concerns) were relatively serious quests, but SITW goes for a more comedic approach. The second biggest issue was that the plot threads from the previous quests were completey ignored (Slug Prince, Lobsters, Temple Knights, Kennith), and they introduced plot elements that pretty much came from nowhere (Eva, Daemonheim, Slug Citadel).

Couple that with the lorefails, and it was a pretty bad quest. It could maybe be salvaged if it was tied in to a certain Cthulhuesque god of horrors.

In terms of Sixth Age quests, Missing, Presumed Death and Fate of the Gods are probably the worst. Mainly because they didn't really HAVE much of a story.
Now I HAVE to have that image. Thanks Wahi :D

Worst: WGS. A tiny bit of story with mostly filler and padding.

Best: Either TWW or HC.
Runescape doesn't need a hero...it needs a villain. An all encompassing force of evil that will remain ever-threatening and use chaos to make the peoples of Gielinor tolerate each other, grow strong together, and fight side by side against this evil. I am that villain.

One of my favorite stories is Shadow of the Storm. Really solid standalone quest.

also, WGS > ROTM
oh, I loved that quest :P
I was totally on a demon slaying rampage back when I did that one... I'd killed like... one... maybe two demons... I felt pretty cool though

(and then when I did MM the jungle demon completely destroyed me... and forced me to redo half the quest since that was before gravestones and I lost those thingummies)

Best? While Guthix Sleeps, easily.

Worst? Birthright of the Dwarves.

Tied between BotD and Salt in the Wound I think, as both got bonus badness points for being incredibly disappointing, as finales for what were otherwise some of the best quest series' in the game. It's miserable meeting old friends and not even being able to recognize them, physically or mentally.

Well I was just alerted to the amazing new feature that is pictures in posts. I am going to become a lot more obnoxious a poster, fair warning.
