(40) Yet, we might imagine elder goddesses unlike these four. Perhaps there are similar beings which do not share in the Sisyphean task of the creation and destruction of worlds. Jas, Ful, Wen, Bik, and Mah make and destroy things which have the same kind of real and stable existence that they do. But perhaps some one or more elder goddesses remain 'outside' the real and stable existence of the planes; perhaps this or these goddesses themselves share in the mysterious status of the abyssal void.

(41) We might understand just such a goddess as she who rules over the infinite expanses of the void and abyss. She would 'embody' (though she surely does not possess a body) or, rather, contain the grammatical laws which make possible the emptiness of the void: the emptiest of emptinesses which is the emptiness of ideas.

(42) What secrets this goddess might know! All possibilities! If she could be summoned within the abyss...would she be willing to share with us the secrets of her sisters and of their self-perpetuating, real, and stable existence? does she understand what happened to Mah or why and how the animae of the worlds have brought to life creatures of sentient and sapient consciousness? What limits would such a being have, except her lack of real and stable existence? would she have freedom or a will or desire of any of the other attributes we associate with self-perpetuating anima ? What a character this goddess of grammar and mistress of the abyssal void could be! This is precisely a possibility I would like to explore in a future theory, concerning anima/soul/spirit/life and real and stable existence.

(43) Goddess of grammar? That sounds ridiculous! Yes, but I find this neat for two reasons: it is both a reasonable though odd-sounding account of the void, and it make reference to some extremely obscure and abandoned lore - from God Letters 17! I know this is not canonical, but there Saradomin claims (obviously ironically) that some other god has already claimed patronage over "spelling, grammar, and punctuation." Certainly this sounds like a lower god of the trivial rules mentioned in (38). But suppose he didn't recognize the real nature of this mysterious Goddess of Grammar, the Goddess of the Void. Then this forgotten reference becomes something interesting.

(44) Although this is probably nothing like what Jagex is currently hinting at after TLW, I hope they and you my fellow lorehounds enjoy these thoughts, and perhaps they will be useful in the ongoing development of lore.

The Story behind This Thread

First, last Wednesday, Rondstat posted his Summoning Charms & Anima thread . It's very good; I encourage you to read it. I spent a lot of last week thinking about how to respond to his theories. Apart from his work - for story reaons - I am increasingly wary of the tendency to treat anima as something quantifiable and as subject to a conservation law. This physical model (treating anima like potential energy) risks missing out on all the mythical, traditional, psychological aspects of life and soul (like in Aristotle's De Anima ).

In response to the physical models of anima , I have been trying to develop a complementary and comparably powerful psychological/phenomenological model of anima , but my theory still needs some work. I worked out my thoughts on the sixth elder goddess in this context, and in the related context of planar theory, on Saturday.

Then, on Monday, Jagex hints at a possible new elder goddess!

I thought, "My thoughts are still sketchy and really unrelated to TLW, so I'll wait until I have a better response for Rondstat before gathering them in a thread."

But then, on Tuesday, I saw these posts:
Original message details are unavailable.
The last is the embodiment of emptiness, nothing.
The one who creates the space with which the others work in.
The one who provides the journey, while the others the destination.
Where the others create, this one destroys.
Original message details are unavailable.
You can't really have an Elder God of Nonexistence. Or rather, you can, but you'd never see her.
So I decided that I wanted to be in on this discussion and wrote this thread.
